Please comment on my first grow...Romulan

Romulan, i think, started from seed. Four female plants stood out of about 10 sprouts. Pics about 2 weeks after forcing flowering. Different start times per seed, but they all seem to be catching up to eachother. Had spider mites appear, sprayed with water till i nearly killed plants, not intentionally, but killed off the spiders it seems. Had some flies biting at them, but after removing males i put the fan blowing gently on them and seems to help keep flies off.

CFLs are 100 watt equiv, ...a few are daylight balanced, most are tungsten. I started with all tungsten, even though daylight is preferred with vegging and tungsten for flower... so i am doing about half and half for flowering to kind of catch up.

Ps. a fourth 'wall' goes up when i'm not taking pictures, i shoot the fan below it

Looking nice :thumbsup: General concensus on this forum is that you would be better of painting those reflective screens white, instead of having them covered in tin foil. White is supposed to diffuse the light better and prevent hot spots.

I think they look great :thumbsup: but would probably invest in some more lighting... as long as you can keep the temps under 85 F. Y socket splitters give you the opportunity to run 2-4 times more bulbs with the same number of sockets you have now. :twocents:

How are the temps in there? And how many watts and lights (not equivalent, but actual wattage)?

Phatjay - heh, thx.. actually those boards are already white, i had added the tin foil lol

Bigtopsfin - temp hovers below 80 seemingly naturally. I have 9 cfls going, 4 are daylight balanced which run a few more watts i think than the interior ones. Interior are 23 watt i think, daylight are 26 i think. So 219 watts total would be my best guess.

So i added a couple more cfls, got 11 23-27 watt equiv going and took down most of the tin foil, ...got a little foil left for fun i guess. As you can see the walls of my closet are painted white anyway, but i can definitely tell more reflective light when i move my mini-walls closer.

Plant numbers may not be the same.

Almost 3 weeks into flowering...(not sure if i should request this moved to 'grow log' forums or not, cause i'm still a newbie)

The grow room hasn't changed at all in light or anything, but kind of screwed up today by opening a door, which reflected light onto another door, which reflected light into the grow closet... not sure if that kind of light i need to be worried about, i mean plants in nature get moonlight right?

Anyway, the top bud areas are starting to get crystally, but the plants aren't starting to 'smell' yet.... here are more pics, plant numbers may not be the same, the only two i labeled were first two i found as females, but all seem to be catching up.

I'd ditch the rest of the foil, as it is useless in a growroom, closet or box. (collects, traps and radiates heat) Shiny...yes. Useful...no. Flat-white paint works great though.

Might want to raise the lights a tad also. Got a circulating fan on 'em? (can use it to blow-away the heat from the lights)

Hermie found! After switching around my grow room a bit i was down lower than normal and noticed some balls.... cry cry cry.

I guess luckily, the only variations since flowering my room has had since start was in like last day or two, so i think this one was genetically hermie earlier on... It was also the last plant to show it's sex if my memory serves.

So down from 4 plants to 3, and gonna hang the hermie for drying and see what happens... unless you guys think otherwise. I don't have enough room or time for a seperate grow space to keep it going for seeds.

I ended up finding three pollen sacs over the entire plant... i squeezed one yesterday right after i killed the plant, and didn't notice any pollen on my fingers. But after drying the plant overnight for whatever use, i squeezed the other 2 i found and noticed definite pollen.

Not sure if that lowers the odds enough that my other plants didn't catch pollen, but i'm hoping. Freakin had a fan blowing recently of course.

ps. I finally got myself some timers, ...2 heavy duty outdoor ones controlling 2 power strips with my cfls... I know that power strips on those might not be a great idea, but no problems so far. Calibrating them day before i was going to be gone at 'switch' time was tricky, ..ended up getting them on schedule 10 mins before my normal light switch time.

looks good for a cfl grow. Its hard growing with little light. much better than my first grow. If it were me i might try to lower all the lights to where they are kinda like on the top sides of plants. instead of over them. i think. umm. does that make sense. you know like all lights on the sides. I think it would make more efficient use of cfl's.

Yeah i was thinking about running the 3 plants the length of the table in a line, and having the lights on sides. Gonna take a bit of work and i'm too tired tonight :)

Made a small change to grow room to help get a little more light under plants.

Should've waited to post, switched the lights around a bit. (Man the edit post feature doesn't last long)

I know you guys are fascinated by the changes to my grow room via pics, but here is the stuff ya really want.

Pics of the tops of the 3 plants. First shot is the best , but the 'volcano' plant seems to be growing more in lines with a great grow. Hard to get a good res shot of it without leaves fuckin up focus.

Btw... smoked the freshman buds of the hermie plant last night and today.... they sure as hell get the job done

About a month into force flowering at this point. Yeah it's only been two days since last update, but... screw you, it's exciting...

Been having some purple stems show up on the fan leaves... had one break off with little pressure yesterday. I haven't been using hardly any nuts, so once i noticed the purple stems i started nuting up using miracle grow... i know it's your guys' favorite. :)

Heh, i started most these in MG organic potting soil, and the 2 month time period is up now, so that'd explain the purple stems. I don't have money to go out and buy a bunch of specific nuts now, so MG diluted is best they are gonna get.

Don't buy any nuts but some nutes would do just fine:D:) The girl looks great and ofcoarse many people have mixed feelings about MG but the fact is it works...(for some) Can't wait to see the end results I've heard nothing but good things about the strain. Keep the updates coming!:jointsmile: I love watching ladies go through their cycle. You ever think about Some blackstrap molasses to to plump them up a lil bit? I haven't used it yet but my ladies are coming around week 4 in another couple days and I'm thinkin about when to start?

About 33 days after forcing flowering. Here are the tops of the 3 ladies. The overhead and fullbody view are of my most mature plant, plant #1.

Not as much progress as i'd hoped, but when you stare at them everyday the progress is blurred. Let me know what you guys think.

*Treating my plants like actors... i've definitely chosen thier best sides, it may look like complete bud where there might be some gaps.

decided to give you some different style pics this time...upskirts and trichome shots of my 'eldest' plant.. Some parts might look amber, but remember i got daylight and tungsten bulbs going... pretty sure that yellow look is from that.

Added support but i'm not sure they really need it.

Main stem not impressing me so much past few days, but the secondary and tertiary buds on the 'popcorn' ones (hoping i got that term right) blew up last night. They were looking like they weren't going to do anything a few days ago.

The buds on my plants seems to grow in spurts aswell. Nothing for a few days and then *bam* they suddenly expand. I think thats why I only take photo's once a week, it has nothing to do with the fact I am lazy.:D

Anyway... looks like things are coming along nicely. Keep up the good work.

About 46 days into force flowering now. According to strain info i should only be flowering another 1-2 weeks, but plants remain non-smelly.. I get close and some parts smell great, but then later i'll go in for smell and it's not so smelly. Maybe it's a romulan thing.

Main bud growth still seems like it slowed down, but side bud growth (pictured) seems to be healthy.

Alot of the leaves on ALL plants have had wilty look lately,... i've tried everything from underwatering to overwatering but they seem similar. Plant's life is coming to end soon right?, not sure if that is part of it.

Plants under cfl's mature slower compared to HID (which is usually used for the flowering times description). Looking good :thumbsup: Don't worry about what 'they' say, just keep checking the trichs :jointsmile:

So i followed some of your guys advice and harvested my oldest plant. I noticed that the 'nanners' in the picture i posted in http://boards.cannabis.com/basic-gro...ring-seed.html thread... were not the only ones. They were popping up all around plant. Trichs were still clear in places, but according to strain info it was in harvest window.

Still two plants left to harvest, plant #2 i'm hoping will be the best from the smell and size.

Did a quick dry on bud that had dried naturally for 1 1/2 days... stuck in convection countertop oven for about 20 mins on 130ish....temp gauge is bad when below 150.

Very heady stone, better than cuttings i had taken from my most non-impressive plant about half a week ago.

Trichs still look too clear for me to want to harvest the rest of my plants, but pretty happy with the effect of the quick dried buds of 1st one.

It's Indica, so i've heard you harvest before amber really makes a showing (lemme know if i'm wrong on that)...but still so many clear.

And.... nanners on plant #3..the non impressive one. This one i already took cuttings from like half a week ago... the smoke was harsh.. The quickly dried ones from 'main' plant #1 are still way smoother than that stuff.

Either what i just typed made sense or looked like cave drawings.

Sorry it took a week, but cut down my last plant on May 1st...the one i had highest hopes for. Here is the result.

It definitely turned out to be the best... the smoke is a slam to the head and not the chest, like my other two plants. I think i understand why they named it Romulan now.

I don't have a decent weighing device, but i guess i grew up a little over an ounce with all plants combined. I sampled stuff way too early i think, i didn't know you gotta be patient AFTER harvest as well as before. They start to smell way nicer once you keep them in a jar for a week and burp them daily.

I just need some moistness back in the buds now.

Leave them another week or 2 and they will be even better.

One thing you can try next time is let them go a bit longer. When you flower with a cfl it takes a while for the buds to fully ripen. I have some experience with that strain and if you would have left it for a few more weeks or so it would have been completely purple. When the trichomes get about 50% amber.

They were all popping nanners, and i had read that indica is best with full cloudy trichs. I would have loved to let them keep growing, but alot of indications said to harvest.
