(aquanauts) First bagseed grow!
Finally decided to kick the bucket and try a first time grow :D. I have no idea what these are as I received them from a buddy who had some bagseed laying around.
Canna Coco
Canna Coco A & B nutes (used during entire grow, until flush)
Canna PK 13/14 (start @ 3 weeks into flower)
RO/DI Water
150w 6700k MH (veg)
250w HPS (flower)
4x 23w 6500k CFL's for when the 250w HPS goes up.
I plan on mild LST and Fimming as soon as they are ready.
- Germed seeds and they popped roots in 3 days (3/4 seeds germed)
- Planted seeds into dixie cups with holes in the bottom for drainage
Day 1 - PM - Veg - 2/4 have popped up - Watered

Day 2 - AM - Veg - I noticed some more growth and deepening in coloration which is a good sign. At least I'm doing something right, so far. I noticed the top of the coco is a little dry but 1" down still moist. Tonight I'll water with some nutes.
I plan on watering with .25(6mL a gal) of A & B nutes, so 25% of what Canna recommends at the 1 week stage. Hoping the very tiny addition of some nutes will encourage the ladies .

Day 3 - AM - Vegging
Last night I watered with 0.5ml/gal of A and B nutes. Here are the pictures this morning.

Quick question: does my seedling look a little to stretched? I've been browsing other logs and notice at like day 10 or so its shorter then mine.
My 150w MH is about 2 feet above the seedlings... should I lower it even more?

Nice pics and log. Subscribed.

I wouldn't worry to much at this point. Even a little stretch so early on is no big deal. If the plant has to much stem, When you repot later you can bury her deep (up to the first node), she will root all the way up that stem when you do it.
But looking good and nice set up!

(aquanauts) First bagseed grow!
@Phat - Thanks! Glad you could find it =]
@Vance - Ahh good tip, thanks!
Day 4 - PM - Vegggggggg - Today I decided to build a vent system for my box. The addition of the vent system really changed everything. For most it's really cool inside the box now.. without a thermometer I couldn't tell you for sure, but it feels exactly the same as ambient room temps. Which is around 70F. The biggest change is the coco medium isn't as dry as it used to be at the end of the day.
- Added a 6" Inline Duct Fan rated at over 200CFM
- No watering tonight, looks and feels pretty moist still. (thanks to the new exhaust fan)
These plants grow allot faster then I thought!
http://i50.tinypic.com/dfda1y.jpg
6" Duct fan setup as exhaust, sitting on some foam padding.

Day 5 - AM - Veg
- Exhaust fan must be really doing it's job! Still moist and no watering.
- Growth is really noticeable today!
- The MH is about 24" above these seedlings... think it's safe to lower em more? Or is it best to wait after she has some more growth?

Don't throw nutes at them now, maybe in 2-3 weeks, even then i find it too early.
They're healthy nevertheless! And great pics! You know your macro!

I'm with monkeybone, I would wait on the nutes for a seedling. There should be enough nutrients in whatever medium your using to support the plants until they have really entered the vegetative mode (now they're seedlings)
As for the light, my advice would be, if you put your hands over your plant and it's too hot for you then its to hot for the plants.
-
(aquanauts) First bagseed grow!
Hmm, I thought Coco medium didn't have any nutes?
-
(aquanauts) First bagseed grow!
Is that the only thing your using for your medium? Was it pre-mixed with anything?

You can bury your seedling all the way up to water leaves. I do this when they are about 4"-6"'s. So after burying they are about 2"-3"s out of ground. it really depends on the strain. Also male plants tend to grow taller much faster than females some believe that to be because they have a better chance of getting pollen into the air and spreading farther. There is a difference for all strains some grow tall some grow short some are bushing some are more like trees sparse and leafy. Your baby's look healthy and female. At week 3 you can sex your plants if your worried about males.

@kaiten408 - Yeah, my medium is 100% Canna Coco. In that case should I be adding tiny ammounts of nutes to my watering?
@Luvmymeds - Thanks for the good info! I hope they turn out to be female
Day 6 - AM - Veg
- Coco was dry in both cups until about 2"~
- Watered both cups with RO/DI water (no nutes)
- Used spray bottle to moisten the area a bit
Question: Is it okay to use the spray bottle? There are no nutes mixed in with the spray bottles just pure RO/DI water. I'm primarily using it to mimic some morning dew on the seedlings. Main watering is done with a cup.

^^^ dry spot above was because I added some more coco to that cup

I have read that having large droplets of water on leaves can act as a magnifying glass and may cause some damage to your leaves. Not sure if this is true, but to be on the safe side, I would water straight to the soil, at least till your little babies get bigger and stronger.
-
(aquanauts) First bagseed grow!
Looks very nice what kind of lights are u using? Im gonna try out 2 different types of bagseed.
-
(aquanauts) First bagseed grow!
2 things. Yes, get the light closer, probably 6" would be fine for a 150 MH. Second thing, start them on 1/4 concentration nutes soon and work your way to 1/2 strength in a week or two depending on how they do. If you want to be overly cautious, start em at 1/8th.
This is not soil, when the seed runs out of pop you are gonna see it drop.
-
(aquanauts) First bagseed grow!
@PhatJay - Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.
@wyldeganja30 - I'm using a 150w MH @ 6700k for vegging. Good luck no your bagseeds!
@jakester - Finally someone with some sort of direction with Coco. Yea since pretty much Day 3 I've been feeding them with 1/4th the concentration and the seedlings don't seem to mind at all. Thanks!
-
(aquanauts) First bagseed grow!
yeah its a cool little setup are u planing on topping ur plants?
-
(aquanauts) First bagseed grow!
I don't plan on topping, rather FIM-ing them combined with LST.

Sounds like a plan. Start moving them kids closer to the life-light.

(aquanauts) First bagseed grow!
Day 7 - AM - Veg
- Noticed this morning they are looking a little down, not so dark green-ish.. just less green.
- Perhaps because yesterday's water was just water and no nutes.
- This morning I watered with 1/3rd concentration of A & B nutes.
- About: 1.0mL/gal of Part A and Part B
- Moved lights down a foot, so the MH is about 12"~ above the seedlings.
Sorry, forgot to snap pix this morning. I'll post them up later tonight!
-
(aquanauts) First bagseed grow!
Quick question... when should I be shooting to transplant into a bigger pot? And how big of a pot should I be moving upto?
Thanks!
-
(aquanauts) First bagseed grow!
Day 8 - AM - V3g
- Lots of new noticeable growth today
- Still very moist from yesterday mornings water
- New 50% nute concentration (over 25%) seems to be doing great
Question: Is it just me or do my ladies looking a little yellow in color? Is this normal while they are growing into full plants? Is it possible my nute solution is too weak/strong?

They look pretty normal to me. The leaves on my ladies can have a yellow tinge to them when they are small and starting to form. There is a picture in my log of the top of the main cola, which shows this and may put your mind at rest (post #5 1st pic).
As you know, I am a bit noob myself at growing. You asked about when to repot. From what I have read here in the forums, you repot as soon as the roots reach the bottom/sides of the container they are in. The more experienced growers seem to repot 3 times, sometimes 4. Gradually increasing the sizes of the pots.

Everything looks good to me. And as for the coco medium, I would stick with what your doing, progressively upping the conc. of the nutrients.
In my experience, as the plants build up a tolerance they learn to just eat that stuff up. :rastasmoke:

Hey Aquanaut, I was reading another thread in this forum and it mentioned a weed master called Jorge Cervantes. I googled him and found that he makes videos.
Here's a link to part 10 of the video that covers repotting.
Dailymotion - Jorge Cervantes - Ultimate Grow Pt. 10 - um video do canal Filmes & TV
The video is broken into many parts, taking you through the whole process of growing cannabis from start to finish and although it covers things you will probably know already, it also covers things you are not sure about. I have watched them up to part 10 and I am really enjoying them sofar. I think part 3 covered pot sizes, something else you were curious about.

- Will probably hold off on the watering until tonight or tomorrow morning

I saw your other thread in the plant problems section. The 1st set of pics looked fine but the 2nd pic in the 2nd set are yellower than I would be comfortable with. Especially seeing as they were greener yesterday than they are today. I think you should take Sarah Louise's advice and up the nute dosage.

Phew... glad someone else thinks the same. I think I'll water tonight with the increased nute dosage, or tomorrow morning.
I think growing these causes more stress... maybe it's just the first grow syndrome I got going on.. lol :rastasmoke:

Tell me about it mate, I am in a panic today because I think my girls are turning into ladyboys and after watching that video I have realised that some of the leaves at the top of my plant are "Transpiring" (getting rid of water to cool down) so when the lights go on later I have to re-arrange my fans, add another one and take a photo of my ladies suspected ballsack.
We are definately suffering from "First Grow Syndrome." I am starting to get an understanding of what being a parent feels like. xD
What time of day are you watering? It's best to water them when the lights turn on.

Dang hope you don't end up with a bunch of hermies.. =[. Yea those videos are pretty awesome!
I usually end up watering first thing in the morning when I get up (usually about when the lights turn on). But sometimes I water at night when I get home from work and notice its a bit dry in the cups.

Day 9 - PM - V3g
- Found out I'm under nuteing...
- Made a fresh bottle (46oz) of nutes @ 2.0ml of AnB (part a and b)
- Plants seem dry till 1"~ below coco
- Will water tomorrow morning with fresh nute mix.
Judging by my last watering that had 1.0ml of nutes (from 0.5ml) the plants are starting to green today. After punching in my nute-mix-holder volume of (a v8 splash bottle) 46oz. It was recomended at 1-3 weeks I use 2.5ml of nutes, instead of my 0.5ml first and then 1.0ml just 2 days ago.
It would appear I was only dosing my nutes at roughly... 1/5th the reccomended. Whoops! :stoned:

LOOKING GOOD!
i love vegging my plants in coco because its hard to over water and the growth rate is amazing... but i would water every day until runoff with coco and also i would use nutes every other watering or every other day
i go back to soil for flower because i get airy dry buds with coco and with soil the buds are alot denser and more flavor to them .. but thats my 2cents

(aquanauts) First bagseed grow!
@bickey - Thanks for the heads up. I may look into watering every day (nutes every other). I'm just so scarred of over watering for my first grow.
Day 10 - AM - Veg
- Watered this morning with new nute mix at 2.0ml/46oz
- Plants still look to be recovering from my nute deficiency.
- More green / Less yellow

Got bored and decided to take some macro shots during lunch.
Could someone explain what those tiny white dots are? Hairs? Also notice the edges of the leaves have a dark dot or coloration to it. Whats up with that? New growth?

looks like you might have a nute lock out i would flush then nute next watering.. are you using calmag? dont be scared to over water them in coco.. water every day till run off.. also how are you watering? are you letting them sit in their runoff? i would let them drain over a sink until they stop dripping then put them back.. the more water you put through them the faster they are gunna grow you have to treat coco as hydroponics ...
-
(aquanauts) First bagseed grow!
Hmm... I'm not using CalMag but was thinking about it since my water is RO and then de-ionized.
I'm beginning to think the de-ionized part is screwing with my grow.
Do you reccomend I add CalMag to RO water? Tomorrow I will flush with just RO water. :hippy:
