Do you think most dispensaries know how much an ounce weighs?

I'm guessing they don't.

I would think that they do since it's pretty much common knowledge that an oz. is 28 grams. If you think you are being shorted, I would suggest finding another club and maybe reporting them. They are supposed to make sure patients are getting their medicine not ripping people off!

Who knows, for the longest time I thought an oz was 30 grams because I always got a little extra in there...

One ounce is equal to 28.34952 grams. It's just easier for people to make them weigh 28 grams..

If you buy an ounce you should just expect the 28 gram standard. This also divides nicely for halves and quarters and leaves an 1/8 at 3 1/2 grams. Considered to be generally fair.

28oz-112qp-224hp-448lb on the street....only way you get 454 is when you buy in bulk(20+) & thats because the big scales only read lbs, so they dont get it down to the gram.

Be nice to your budtender and they may give you a few extra grams. As you can tell it is not an exact science.

The first two responses to this thread were not correct.

I have a feeling that if I bought an ounce at your establishment then I would only get 28 grams.

But your idiotic response just helped me decide never to go to Delta9. I'll spend my money with caregivers and dispensaries who aren't negative jerks.

I would say only you can be your best advocate when it comes to many things,,,medication and medical related issues especially. I would never buy something that doesn't seem right to you or it is your fault if you do. You didn't call a caregiver out on here so not sure why the hostility (guilt eating you Delta?)but when in doubt put the green on my scale or there will be no sale.:jointsmile:

28.4 is what i always used to get before dispensaries...

With the biz, they're finding there's no consistancy in product, they had to borrow $ to start (usually from mom and dad), security, constant threat of burglary, laws about to change, lots of 18 year old males, police driving by, competition from other dispensaries, etc.
A lot of dispensaries are finding it's a lot harder to run than the "get rich quick" scheme they had in mind

I bought an eighth today, half bubba kush, half chemdawg. I got home and weighed it, each half only weighed 1.5 grams. So i got an eighth that only weighed 3 grams. I called the place back and let them know. There was a new girl working, and i dont think she knew how much an eighth weighed.


Im still pissed. Hopefully when i go back they will make up for it. Where do they find these idiots that work at these places. Most of these people dont know shit about weed. I knew an eighth was 3.5 since 9th fucking grade.

I suspect a lot are shaving some off the top for themselves.
They know most likely you have no accurate scale (but you did).
Then when you phone these places, they're usually so fucked up, they can hardly speak. One girl denied they were having a special over and over again when it was right on their front page or their website.

It was Medical Marijuana of the Rockies in Frisco. Im going to give them the benifit of the doubt, and assume the girl thought an eighth was 3 grams. Im gonna go back there tomorrow and talk to them.

I was just wondering how it went with the 3 gram 1/8. That is about a full joints worth. This is significant loss for a single 1/8.

for those that would like to check thier weight on thier medicine go to harbor frieght and get thier small scale for about 19.00 bucks and you will never be guessing again if you where given the proper weight..this works quite well.

Or you can get one of those old school postage hang scales for a under $5 at any office supply store or headshop. But those aren't very accurate.

I looked at some of the digital scales at the head shops and felt they just wanted to rip me off so I found a nice alternative at harbor freight...but any digital is better then no digital for sure.

I still weigh my Z's at 1 to 2 gr's over, always have always will. Shorting people on weight is always bad business.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I worked in a chemistry lab for a few years, and feel like I know my way around a scale. Someone needs to offer these shops a one hour class or something!

Delta 9 is guilty of this ignorance too; it may not be one of their current employees.... but it just seems they should be supportive of the dissemination of functional information irregardless. :smokin:

I'd say an easy majority of shops are not aware of the grams they lose when someone sells them a 112 g qp.

Just to correct a little misinfo in here, a dispensary cannot apply for a weights and measures license. We tried, talked to a very gruff lady named Lisa, came away with nothing.

We don't weigh a true 1/8th, but we also list our prices at 3.5 grams, 7 grams, etc, so you know what you're purchasing. And we ALWAYS weigh over to account for any calibration issues, moisture or big stems. And our scales have both front AND back displays, so you can watch us weigh out everything, which is something you should ask of your dispensary. And we weigh to order, never ahead of time.

That 3 gram eighth is harsh though, damn. You get a reeferund?

ask them to put a nickel on the scale. they weigh 5 grams.

That is at least honest and those are the de facto standards. I once got a lb that weighed 448 grams including a brown paper regular grocery store bag. That bag weighed over an ounce. I went back and received a refund.

For as long as I've been smoking weed (22+ yrs) it's always been:

3.5g per 1/8
7g per 1/4
28g per oz
448 per pound

That's not TRULY accurate because we all know a pound weighs 453.59237g - google to the rescue.

Somebody already mentioned why you get a full pound when you're buying in bulk quantities. Because pot in those quantities is weighed on scales with 1lb increments or maybe even 1 ounce increments and those are going to be calibrated for a full (real) pound.

The reason it's always been weighed out based on 448g in the marijuana market - is because that divides up easy.

448 / 4 = 112g per QP
112g per QP / 4 = 28g per oz
28g per oz / 4 = 7g per 1/4

It just makes the math easy.

Some of you are right that it's really 453.59237 grams per pound and an ounce should weigh 28.3495 grams if we want to be 100% accurate.

But I ask you-- Is 0.3g per ounce really that much to you? 1/3 of a gram in an ounce?

IMO everybody is technically right - but it's such an insignificant amount that I wouldn't worry about it. I haven't worried about it for 22yrs and I'm not suffering for it.

Notice that "legal for trade" scales cost considerably more than the head shop scales most dispensaries use.

everyone should just weigh their sacks a little heavy. this makes the customer very pleased when they see they got a heavy sack, it's really not a big hit for the provider ( we are not weighing powders here folks), I think it's a win win.

You guys liberally toss some buds on the scale and don't molest them. I've gotten over 5-gram 1/8ths at your place before. It is a really pleasing feeling!

It's frustrating to see some of these budtenders pick apart your buds until they hit exactly 3.50 grams. Is that extra 0.2 - 0.3 grams gonna kill ya? And is it worth molesting my buds and and breaking them up?

I think most places in Denver are kinda stingy like this... there's some that advertise fat sacks of course. Once in awhile when I'm a regular at a place they'll toss me fat sack occasionally or something...

You are right lampost - I bought some edibles and a gram from herbal connections - the woman said "I have one gram left of this 'Hawaiian', it is over a gram but we wont worry about that". So I get it home, break it up, and I counted TWELVE seeds in that one gram :wtf:, I still have them in a jar... Granted this was a few months ago, but still.. - Hell I even examined it before I left (as much as you examine a gram baggie anyway) and you absolutely could not tell there were seeds. Live and learn I guess - didn't go back as really not worth my gasoline to drive back to bitch about a gram of seeds

I wouldn't be all that happy about a bunch of seed either. But you gotta consider - you just got the genetics. If it was good stuff, I wouldn't be too awful unhappy about it.

If you're not growing, somebody you know will probably plant those seeds just to see how they turn out. Bargain those seeds off for a sack or two when it's all finished.

I know all this seems very anal but when you have a wife whos always in pain and you buy some shit weed one day thta dosent help her it starts to be a very nessasery practise and the way i see it its our money and we should get what we pay for and any lagit place will have no problem letting you do these things before you buy....I use c-3 up on 93rd and fedral...they always have a great attitude and have even let me borrow there mic and have always re weighed for me if I request or at the counter per my request and never ever given me chit for it...it is the only one that has willingy let me do this without hassel and needless to say the ones who complained were left with a bag on the counter and my money left with me....good luck ppl
