Yellowing - Form Completed & Pics

I don't know what to do. Soil runoff is at 7.5 even after flushing with 3 gallons of 6.8.

E-indoor or outdoor - INDOOR

E-specific medium - FOX FARM OCEAN FOREST - STRAIGHT FROM BAG

SCLR-Soil or slab runoff pH - 7.5
E-Water source - TAP
E-Source water pH - ADJUSTED TO 6.8
E-Age of plant - 21 DAYS FROM PLANTING SEED
E-Type of fertilizer - FOX FARM TRIO - HAVE NOT USED YET.
E-Rate of application (if hydro, this is your PPM number, preferably after each component is added) - NONE YET
E-Lighting source and distance from plant - 400W HPS COOLTUBE AT 12"
E-Air temperature (both day and night if you are running a dark period) - 82 DEG. - 24HR LIGHT ON
E-Air % Relative humidity - 45%
E-Lighting schedule - 24/0
E-Type of ventilation your room has - 200CFM IN-LINE NO SCRUBBER

Here's a nice note, I just took some fresh FFOF soil and put it in a clean cup with holes in the bottom. I took 6.6PH RO water and ran it through the soil. The water that came out was at 7.5PH. Same problem I'm having now.

Did I get a bad batch of soil here? At $25/bag you would think it would be buffered in the right range.

PH 7.5 in soil shouldn't hurt your plants brah.

And they look jus' fine. cept your light is too close.

They have stopped growing and are starting to bleach.
No worry, happens to the best of us.

Those leaves are toast and will stay that way, but the new growth should be fine if you raise the light a little.

I just raised the light up some. Didn't know that the plants would have a problem if there wasn't any heat on them from the light.

Hopefully that was the problem. Question is how high should the light be? I just put it up to 18".

As I understand it, they stop growing when exposed tight energy in excess of 91K Lux.
Course, then the lower branches keep growing and push the tops into the light.:(

Should be plenty.
But, mo' betta, ask a metal halide guy.
Been a long time, 10 years, since I grew HPS.

All I can tell ya from recent, personal experience, is my 150W. LED light starts bleaching at about 4".
Thats what cooked my lemonskunk in da photo.
Strain, temperature, and wavelength would be the variables here.

Dem girls prolly ok now.

I'm guessing that's more accurate with, say, sunlight, than it is with HPS narrow band yellows.
It is rather meaningless with LEDs.

Doesn't look like heat stress, but they do look bleached.
1) When did this condition start, and are you using anything different than on previous successful runs?
2) Is this the same strain you've grown before, or is it a new strain to you?)
3) Is the tapwater from the city, or a well on your property?
4) What's it's out-of-the-tap ph?
5) What are you using to adjust water ph? (you're not adding limestone to the soil or water are you?)
6) What are you using to check runoff ph? Are you attempting to chase an invalid ph number with color-coded strips or kits?
7) Are you spraying with ammendments or 'growth' teas or bug sprays?
8) Doing anything to them that might affect roots? Stuff like consistent overwatering causing root stress/root rot, sitting on a cold cement floor or next to a heater, overdosing with hydrogen peroxide...)
9) I've never been a big fan of a 24/0 light schedule. Have you always used this schedule?

Most (peat-based) soils without ph buffers take a ph dive and go more acidic. Overbuffering will keep it near 7.0 no matter what you do. So doubtful it's the FF soil, but anything is possible. Is it fresh?
When do you plan on starting the FF Grow Big and Big Bloom? I know 21 days is a tad early for 21 day old seedlings, but did you 'accidentally' fertilize them too early? Ocean Forest is chock-full of nutrients already, but could be time to start half-doses per FF Feeding Schedule if you've overwatered/flushed too often. The link is in my signature. (if you try...only try on one till results appear)

Looks like Weez was spot on with the light bleaching. I moved the light up some more and now all the growth is coming in green.

The soil PH is high however. I did a slurry test using 6.6PH RO water and after thirty mins it registered at 7.5PH. I used two different PH meters to test this.

Fox Farm is baffled, but they are shipping me out a few bags on their dime.

Now, I did flush them pretty heavily. So, when they dry out I'm going to water them next with half dose nutes in the 6.5-6.6 range since the soil is still high.

You guys think that is alright? Now I know to test the soil PH, even when I pay an arm and a leg for what is supposed to be "The Good Stuff". Rookie mistakes. I'm sure we've all made them.

going by your first photos, I would say 'magnesium deficiency', and, you might re-calibrate your pH tester, Reverse-Osmosis water should pH just like distilled water (7.0) ... unless, your filters need changing ... :smokin:

I just calibrated it as it's a brand new PH pen. And the RO system is brand new too. My source water is horrible though. 9.5-9.8 out of the tap. I'm sure an RO unit can only decrease the PH so much....

Keep in mind that the PH of the RO water out of the system is 7.5. I PH down'd the water to under 7.0 for the test just so I could see what increase if any there was.

Ummm...are you testing the soil ph with a soil probe thingy, or are you testing water runoff? I've never seen a soil probe that actually worked.

I have a Hanna 98130 meter and a Milwaukee PH55 Meter. I've tested the runoff, and tested a slurry (1/2 cup soil, 1 cup water).

You are THE MAN. Moving the light up fixed it all. The widow was a little shy on Mg, but I gave them all a feeding of half strength nutes, and sprayed the WW with some epsom salt water. All good.

Thanks so much for the input. Soil is still a little high in PH, so I'm feeding at 6.6 rather than 6.8 until I bump them up to three gallon pots. I will be sure to check the soil PH before I transplant!

The LED's worked with the help of eight CFL's. The 1W ones are a waste of time. Your 15W version is the way to go. It was just out of my budget for now. They'll ease in price soon enough.

I just stuck with the 400W HPS for now. Not even bothering with a Metal Halide, just HPS all the way. Shov does it so why can't I? I had the 120W set up in the veg area, but it brings the temps up to 86. Not ideal if you ask me. With the 400W HPS and only a 200cfm fan I'm keeping the temps at a dead solid 82. I'm upgrading the fan to 400cfm and hope to get the grow area under 80.

Not sure what to do with these two LED lights now. They would do great for a mother plant. Maybe I'll do that. Use the 120W LED to keep a mother plant or two.

Not the best picture, but as you can see the problems are all fixed. The bottom left is a Midnight Kush from G13 Labs. It's been tempermental since it sprouted from soil.

A few more days and up to the three gallon pots they go. They grow so fast. Sitting at 7.5" off of the soil.
