First off, I don't know if lumens add up in a linear way like that and second...no, that's not enough light at all. You could probably veg some little plants fine but it wouldn't be enough for any serious bud. Add a little metal halide or HPS to that and you might get some decent nugs.
What wattage on the metal halide?Quote:

If you aint got that kind of money then go to lowes and buy more CFL's they have a four pack for $12 and im talking about the 26w=100w ones but as soon as you flower your gonna want alot more bulbs
Thanks for the info yeah that is kinda out of my price range haha alright so I guess I'll head back to home depot and pick up a metal halide and some higher powered CFLs?

If you're on a tight budget, don't buy things new from a store. You'd be amazed at the things you can find at online auctions and at thrift stores. CFL's are OK for the hobby grower, but your plants will grow slowly and it's difficult to get dense buds. Personally, I wouldn't have the patience :D
great post BIGTOPSFINN personally if i am going to do something i am going all out, but because everyone has there own budget i had thought that HID setup would be the most economical setup around, but after you post i would have to say im wrong.Quote:

Even for 2 plants I'd go for a 250w HPS instead of buying a bunch of CFL's and trying to wire them and constantly reposition them to get the most out of them. CFL's will also require a couple extra weeks of both veg and flower, and that's basically one less harvest per year for me :wtf:
Ok a lot of info here lol. Alright so I'm going to return one of the CFLs and get an HID. My lights are set up in a 5 dye pattern for example
0 0

0 0 and I'll put the HID in the middle. I know the time is going to be longer with less light but so far I got $200 sunk in this and I can't afford great lights
So does this sound like a good plan?
HID will need its own ballast and socket, it won't plug into a normal light socket like a CFL.Quote:

Like I said before I only want to grow one or two plants, nothing major. The box I built is 2'x2'x4' and I can raise or lower the plant on the inside. My budget for this project is around $200 so I got like another $40.00 bucks I can spend on lights.Quote:

Sorry I overlooked the part about number of plants earlier :stoned:
With that space and budget, get a few more CFL's. In the El Cheapo Guide link I posted earlier, there are pictures of Y socket splitters a few posts down. You can get those at Home Depot or Lowes, then you won't need more sockets. I saw in another post that you can get 4-packs of 23w CFL's for $12 at Lowe's if I remember correctly. For that area aim for at least 20,000 lumens total. The more the better, but then you will have to look into getting rid of the extra heat.
You may also want to look into LST or Scrog for your cab. 4 ft. is not that much in the end. Of course this will also depend on how long you plan to veg and if the strain is indica or sativa.
Hope this helps :) And really read down that link earlier, there are some great tips after the first post like connecting 3 socket splitters to attach 4 lights to one socket.
Happy growing
Sure, they have a 70 watt HPS or 100 watt halide that would help a lot. Just keep those plants as close to the lights as you can.Quote:

get a 400w HPS. air cooled if in enclosed area. flower is most important part of producing nice buds. grow grow grow. t5 lights are good and produce GREAT lighting for the electricity used and very low heat. t5 veg HPS flower thats how i roll. i got 400 w mag ballast, socket cord, and hood for 90 bucks off craigslist.
I picked up a 300 watt equivalent CFL bulb at 4200 lumens, 4 splitters and 8 100 watt equivalent CFLs at 1750 each which works out for a combined total of 18,200 lumens for 35 bucks .
I know its not the best set up but when your out of money your out of money know what I mean? So is this a decent set up?
Grow it out and let us know.:thumbsup:Quote:

You have a nice setup as long as you have the right spectrum cfl's. The 6500k are for veggin. 2500k for flowering and it wont work the other way around.
I'm going to start with a clone would it be a good idea to mix the spectrums or should I go for one? If so which one?:wtf:
I would go with one spectrum but ive seen other threads of ppl using mixed spectrums of light.
(maybe someone with a little more wisdom can chime in on this subject)
Congrats on getting more light i have a baby under 12 CFL's 26w(100w equivalent) and its doing great. My only problem is that i dont have the space to put a few lights on the sides which i would recomend.
