Over nute or Cal mag? Please Help

Hey all, new to this forum.

I made a Big Bloom fert mix too strong, I wasnt thinking and normally mix the normal strength in a half gallon, but for some reason I put 4 tablespoons in a pint instead of 2 table spoons in a half gallon (it requires 4 tablespoons in a gallon for reg strength). And the great part is I even water my plant with it, then this problem turned up. Details and Pics to follow. The over nuts happend on the 16th of this month.

Set up

Not sure when veg cycle starts, but this is Day 38 from sprouting, if anyone wouldnt mind translating that into how old it is in veg cycle I wouldnt mind lol =).

Ams - Feminized White Widow

Grow tent, 250 watt mh conversion bulb (hps for flower).
Soil = Oceanforest / perlite (big chunky) / light war.

Nuts= Ocean forest 3 pack.

Been giving it 250 ml grow big with 50 ML Big Bloom (normal str) every other watering (water every 2-3 days) , Havent gave it any nutes since the error, except on the 20th I gave it 100 ML Grow Big, 150 ML plain water.


Temp stays around 75, doesnt get over 82 and hasnt got below 68.
Humid is around 40% cant really seem to make that go any higher but maintain 35-50% pretty good.


Also air flow is standard, 4 inch intake, 6 in exhuast.


I had someone say it could possibly be a Cal mag def, I ordered some cal mag and its on the way just incase, but would like some replies to this if able. Need to know if i should just keep watering it for the next few times or if it needs some cal mag or if its safe to resume normal nuts.

If you've over-fertilized, its a pretty mild case. If you're worried about it, get a flushing agent (Flora Kleen etc.) and flush the medium with plain water and the flush agent and start over. If you have a meter, I would check the TDS of the runoff water during the flush so you know where you are. The plant actually looks pretty good though.

Thanks for the quick response bud, my main concern was finding out if it was a cal mag def or not. I didnt wanna cut off nuts when it was wanting something else or vs versa. Long as its not a cal mag defineincy I should be good to go, thanks again.

Agreed, the problem looks like mild nute burn. should bounce back in no time.

definitely minor nute burn. it doesn't look like a cal/mag def at all.

Plant looks pretty healthy but yes, there is a bit of nutrient "max out" if you will. Don't completely cut off your feeding, just cut back a little bit.

Make sure you're watering properly as well, far to often people water just enough to hydrate the medium. This is wrong.

Always, ALWAYS water enough so that you have a good 20-30% run off from the pot and always dump that water out.

Your plants will love you for it.

Adding some Cal-Mag plus to your feeding regimen might not be a bad idea. Some micro nutrient supplementation is usually a good thing in moderation, especially as you get closer to flowering. Good luck man.

Well said senor. I've heard Cal-Mag+ is especially helpful if you are using tap water. :rasta:

The plants look fine so far. :thumbsup:

The CalMag is usually recommended for those in flower using RO water, where the water has been filtered of nutrients, metals and other contaminates.

Molasses does the same thing as CalMag (and CalMag Plus) at a fraction of the cost. Also replaces Sweet, and other bulking agents that are sugar beet or molasses based. Molasses' listed nutrients: Calcium, Magnesium, Iron. (all of 'em in a form readily available to the plant)

Fox Farms Grow Big (for growth stage) and Tiger Bloom (flowering stage) are your nutes. They contain the micro's and metals necessary in that stage. Big Bloom is a compost tea designed to compliment both.

Relax, and continue following the Fox Farms Feeding Schedule, keeping an eye on the need for additional Grow Big after 2 weeks in flower.

I use the Fox Farms trio, but in flower I have cut the Big Bloom dosages in half, and replaced with 1 tsp unsulphured molasses per gallon of water. Been doing this for over 6 months, and am satisfied with the results.

38 days, but how large is the plant? How many internodes do they have? (the space between the stem's nodes are internodes)

Keep an eye on ingoing water ph. Any clue what yours is?

you don't usually need calmag+ for tap water. as rusty stated, calmag+ (and similar supplements) are for reverse osmosis water/distilled water. tap water usually has these things in it.

the Big Bloom isn't to blame, it isn't really a 'fertilizer', having very low levels of nutrients ... it is an earthworm casting, etc., tea, that supplies beneficial bacteria, etc ... the bacteria help break down the nutrients, making them more readily available to the plant ... it's very good stuff, pretty hard to overdo it ... good luck :smokin:

In RO and distilled it most definitely is a requirement.
I've always found though that for the rate which we force these plants through their cycles the demands are usually very similar when using tap water in a hydroponic or soilless medium. Some genetics will be able to push through without a cal-mag supplement but many won't, remember also just because you don't see the deficiency... doesn't mean it isn't happening!

Cocogro from Botanicare is pre rinsed with CalMag+
