Less than a THOUSAND patients statewide???...please take a peek
Hi all,
I did not get many posts from my INTRO and thought this site was a bit dead.
With that being said, I was shocked when my pain specialist brought up this subject. He said I was definitely a candidate for MMJ but will require a PCM signature.....I am pretty sure that it would be possible but looking at the amount of patients approved here in NM....I have my doubts.
The fact that a med-prof brought this up after over a year of treatment out of the blue really got me thinking. This is NOT something I would EVER consider....now I have and am more than willing to give it a shot to end the issues ( or at least make them better )....
I certainly wish there was more support on the NM side of the house here....
Thoughts?????
Cheers....

Please don't misunderstand me folks....no ill will directed at the site here at all. I apologize if I came across as such....tough to with the written word solely for me...
There has been a TON of great info I have gathered here in the past few days...
I am only comparing the NM side of the forums to others I have experienced and it seems as though it is not as active as other areas...that's all....
Patient4200.....was tough to call the DOH considering they were off for the long weekend....it is on my list!
Thanks for taking the time to respond...honestly! Sorry I came across as a bit strange here...my bad and I accept the criticisms on my written word....if offense was taken none was intended by any means...
Cheers!

We started out with a snow blizzard early in the evening and now it has turned to rain. I'm sure we're going to have black ice and snow in the morning here in the Four Corners area.

it's unfortunate, but the NM MCP program is grossly underfunded, in part because of the ridiculously low application fee for producers who are supposed to be non-profit companies. They could certainly afford more then $100 out of their war chests when the board of directors are paying themselves IRS allowable maximums. In part because the State on NM is run by a bunch of for lack of a better word...idiots who are more about lining their pockets then taking care of the voters.
Things will slowly change however. I've gotten significant positive responses from the DOH, granted it's taken a few weeks, but each communication eventually gets a response.
My suggestion of raising producer license fees to 5k for the first renewal has gotten some positive feedback from state lawmakers, since after a year, it should be quite affordable for those who have been given the privilege of growing legally under the state umbrella. Those funds would be directed to add additional staff to the MCP program, which is to provide better service to what I expect will be several thousand patients by the end of 2010.
There is enough info on the DOH website for a patient to get thru it without much help, and one of the first producers has gone totally public ( you can find his email address around here someplace) and would be a good resource to make sure you've got all the ducks in a row before sending the application in.
A good friend of mine with MS was able to get a card in under a month. He's in bad shape so there was no question what so ever about his qualifying, but he still got an inquire phone call from DOH (his doctor did too)
MMJ is an alternative to perspiration painkillers, but perhaps not a do all end all. Not as effective as an anti-inflammatory as I had hoped, but as a pain killer, it sure beats the crap out of vicodin ( if you've taken v for any length of time you should have just cracked a smile)
Get the forms, give then a read, take em to your doc, fill em out and send them in..you should have a card in 4-6 weeks I imagine with the backlog the holiday has created.

I agree with most of what you posted, however, why make it more difficult for new producers?A higher fee will serve to keep the "small" guys from becoming producers and only big business concerns will be able to afford the higher fee.

I hate those "perspiration" painkillers!

Me to. I get nauseous, sweaty, and not to mention it's extremely frustrating to try to " do the deed " on painkillers. All solved by a good bowl of kush.

Agreed with most every thing you folks have said. In situation for chronic pain, the state requires two signatures as you all know. They also require x-rays/MRIs etc.....I do need to give the DOH a call but do they require actual films or can the information be sent on CD? 90% of my "pics" are on those self booting disks....
Thanks!

Not sure of the requirements for chronic pain........DOH should know,if you can ever get in touch with them.

Couldn't get a hold of them on Friday...
For "Chronic Pain" an individual is required to have a specialist and a PCM to both help you apply. Additionally, the site states that one must send in copies of MRI/X-rays/CT scans......
Still searching and hoping for a return call soon!

I have been issude my card for chronic pain. My doctor and my PCM signed letters attesting I was a good candidate for medical cannabis and signed the DOH paperwork. No copies of MRIs, x-rays or the likes (though I have plenty).
Just the completed forms and letters from the two doctors is all that was required (for me).
I hope this helps and GOOD LUCK!

I cant wait to see how long our renewals will take when our 1 year is over.
Also how renewals will effect the DOH's proccessing time?
And will we have to jump through the same hoops to get renewed?

JM,
Got this from the DOH site but you probably already know this....

Q: How long can I be on the Medical Cannabis Program?
A: Your registry ID card for the Medical Cannabis Program will be valid for one year from the date it is issued. You must reapply to the program no less than 30 days before the expiration date of your existing registry ID card. Patient production licenses are only valid for current patients and also must be renewed yearly.
I would think that the state would require another application. The rationale would probably go like this: "We want to ensure patients are continuing to experience the medical conditions for which the MMJ was originally prescribed." Or something to that effect....
The way I read the "no less than 30 days before the expiration date" would mean that you should probably factor in the time it took to obtain the card once your app was submitted, and make sure it is at least 30 days prior to expiration. So if it took you 3 weeks to get your card from submittal, I would add a few more weeks so that you are above 30 days out....and a couple of weeks for "processing".
Make sense???

I just started reading for a week or so and decided to make an account. There are some kick A souls on here one of which has helped me a lot in the last few days. He needs to enable his "reputation builder"! You Fire are one of the kick A's on here.

This is the only place where I have found consistent posts about NM. There are MANY terrific people here that are truly helpful. Hopefully, if I can get enrolled in the program, I hope to pay it forward so to speak!
