PC-case stealth microgrow experiment with lowrider

Hello everyone!

Basically this experiment began with a debate with my friend about possibilities of pc-case stealth grow. My friend said it's a waste of time, I disagreed. So now I kind of have to show him otherwise.

Aim is to grow 1 lowrider and yield at least 20g. Dont know if thats possible, but we'll see. I'm going to build a bubbler into 5l container and use 4-5 20W cfl's at 2700K for lighting. Lowriders take about 8-9 weeks from seed to harvest, so if this works I can basically cover my ~10g/month smoking habit.

Today I went to buy the largest second hand pc-case I could find and came up with this bad boy (picture). Dimensions: W24cm H67cm D53cm. I teared all the computer stuff out of it, and put some mylar in. Now I have a nice empty case.

A lot of stuff still to figure out, for example I have no idea at this point how I'm going to set up the ventilation. Theres going to be a lot of learning with this grow. I have no earlier experience with lowriders so it's going to be interesting.

Where I can find this kind of lampholders/sockets???

Oh, and it would be great if theres someone who could recommendate which strain I should go for.

If you're in Finland, then no luck I'm afraid. I asked a guy at the hardware store for Y socket splitters and he said he's never seen them. Said it's probably because of the strict laws/regulations here. I don't know about the other Scandinavian countries though.

What I do is check around second-hand shops for light fixtures, sometimes you can find the kinds with 3 sockets for cheap. I've done plenty of research and browsing, and found that it's cheaper and more efficient to get an HPS system from Germany rather than messing around with CFL's, which are much more expensive here compared to the US and Canada. But if you want to stick with this project, check around some German or Dutch sites like this one: udopea, you can get 125w-200w CFL's for much cheaper than buying many smaller ones. Only problem then becomes the penetration, so maybe get a couple of those?

Thanks for the reply bigtops. Biltema has now these US kind of corcscrew lookin 20W CFL's that cost 2.99â?¬ each, so not gonna cost much. Im gonna hit the flee markets tomorrow for second hand light fixtures and gonna visit the local lighting/electricity hardware store if they have any solutions for this. I tried to fit my old 200W ESL in to the pc-case but it doesn't.

Wow, I think the cheapest I've seen at the stores were like... 7.99 or 9.99, I might have to order some of those for myself :D

Dude! Thanks for the eBay link, thats exactly what I need. I think I can fit 8 cfl's with two of those splitters. Yeah and the biltema has just taken those cheap bulbs in to their selection.

the shortest ruderalis i've read about / best bang for the buck in a small space is hindu kush. i have a buddy that insists he finishes them @ 11in.

another fellow swears by the diesel x lowrider2.

i got a pc grow box and im just gonna grow wat i can sprout i have 7 plants in it right nowlast grow i had i got seven females out of 40 plants time b4 that i had 24 seedlings and got 11 girls luc of the draw so if you d it go big or go home throw a few extra beans in there just so it not a waste ....i used the stockfan the comp came wth and got one 125w cfl well see what you can do i did th stealth box for fun

i like this thread! i grew 5 Lowyder #2 plants in a custom made computer box like this too, just last year i think the thread is still there. anyways i wouldnt expect 20g from just one plant if your growing soil. Lowryder has a nice center cola but thats about it, maybe 14g you'll get per plant.

for a light id also recommend getting a hps bulb for that to induce the best flowering. like so: SH Hydroponics, Inc. > Sun System® HPS 150 Grow Light Fixture*
mine was 75w but i really could have used a 150w.

this strain grows real fast its a joy to watch, it shows preflowers around week 3 or 4 so keep your eye out for males. mine did well with scotts fertilizer and flush them before harvest. its a good smoke almost a psychedelic high, not very high in thc content but they will look nice and smell almost like cut grass. good luck ill be checking this thread every now and then!

I have one of those 150 watt sunsystems, very nice and compact, just need a heatsink/fan combo for a CPU to sit on top of it, works gooood.
