Medical Marijuana - Smelly Neighbours

I live in Canada and was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to what I am having at this time. I live in a rental house next to another rental house. Both landlords live off site. The neighbour next door smokes marijuana and claims he has medical permission. He used to smoke indoors, but his upstairs neighbour (friends of mine with two small children) asked him to stop as they share a heating system and the whole house smells when he smokes. So he started smoking outside. Now the neighbourhood smells when he smokes. When I mentioned it to the neighbour landlord, he told me to go to the proper authorities. I was told by a law enforcement officer, there was nothing they could do. I would have to write a letter of complaint to the landlord. To make a long story short; has anyone out there had any success in resolving a similar issue, and what did you do?

I sat back and enjoyed the smell and then offered him some of mine to compare. :thumbsup:

Tell him to invest in a decent carbon filter and save himself the hassle,

I'm not Canadian, but it does seem a little picayune for you to complain when he already goes outside to smoke. What if he was Korean and made and ate Kimchee all the time? Would you complain about that too? It smells worse than cannabis. I guess I'm glad I'm not Canadian if you are representative. It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the monumental ignorance and intolerance that you displayed by coming on to a pro-cannabis, pro-medical marijuana board and asking for advice on how to resolve an "issue" that sounds like pure distilled essence of bullshit right from the start, could it?

I seriously doubt your claim that a smoking session stinks up the whole neighborhood, but even if it were true I should think the very *first* thing someone should try is talking to that individual personally. Until you've taken that step, you are just acting like an asshat.

It may be that the guy remains obstinate, even after requests from multiple people, but you won't know that until you try. If that does turn out to be the case, then surely you can figure out a way to resolve this problem that doesn't require public displays of ignorance such as insulting all Americans.

The OP is an obvious troll, guys. He comes on here and makes some outrageous statement about his neighbor smelling up the entire neighborhood and than slams everyone as "ignorant Americans" when they provide a bit of insight.

I'm sorry if I have offended anyone. Your responses have been heard. I am a former drug addict and marijuana was a big part of my life for a long time. So, when I am confronted with the smell, I have a great deal of struggle to stop myself from jumping the fence and joining him. To some that might seem like a good idea. For me it would be just shy of a death sentence on account of what it would lead to. I thought I would come here to find a responsible user.
It is, however, unfortunate there were no uesfull suggestions that I could bring to the table when I confront this neighbour. I was hoping that someone could have suggested a less smelly way of medicating.

From one addict to another, take some goddamn responsibility for your addiction. Just because you're a recovering addict, you think that it gives you some kind right to tell others how they should live? Calling the cops on your neighbors because you don't like being exposed to the smell of pot? If you don't like it, MOVE.

You want a useful suggestion of what to bring to the table when you confront your neighbor? Here's my suggestion. Don't confront your neighbor. It's none of your goddamn business what you neighbor is doing.

If you don't like the smell, close your windows and buy yourself a good air filter/purifier. Take some responsibility rather than dumping your issues on others. What's really surprising though is that you should have learned this during your recovery. Apparently you didn't and until you do, your recovery is on VERY shaky ground and that has nothing to do with your neighbor. It has EVERYTHING to do with you.

How's that for useful suggestions? Consider yourself bitch-slapped which could be one of the best things that anyone here could do for you.

Ok, I hear where ya coming from, and I'll take you at face value. :) Why don't you suggest to your neighbor that he vaporize instead? There are plenty of posts documenting the benefits, but let's recap: your neighbor will save money, save his lungs, get a better high, and you won't be able to smell anything.

Don't think of the matter in confrontational terms. Confess to your neighbor the dark thoughts that the smell triggers in you, and then explain the benefits to HIM of vaporizing. You have to present the case in terms that make sense to him. If the deal benefits him, of course he will be more amenable to going along.

If he's really into smoking, show him the Vapor Genie or that battery-operated vaporizer that is in the form of a block of wood (I think it's called the Fast Launch or something like that).

I am a former tobacco smoker and I experience similar triggers when people light up around me. The difference is I don't whinge and don't expect other people to change their behaviour to make things easier for me. My advice is accept the fact that other people smoke and stop complaining, you will soon learn how to deal with your triggers in a more positive manner.

If it is really so hard for you to deal with, move.

before that id like to state that what your neighbor is doing is 100% within his rights. do you complain to people who smoke cigs outside too?

with that said, smoke is smoke. its bad for you, EVEN WEED SMOKE. if i was smoking on my front porch and someone lived close enough to me that they got a good wiff of it every time i smoked and they told me they didnt like it i would make a reasonable effort to make it so my smoke did not bother them.

what you should do is help this neighbor set up a carbon filtration system in one of his rooms. buy a carbon filter, a powerful enough exaust fan to pull all that smoke out, and a little stopper for the vents in that room when hes smoking. and make sure he leaves the fan on and the plugs over the vent for a good 30 minutes at least after his done smoking. the landlord should be the one paying for this vent system.

in the same vein i think he has the right to medicate/get high whatever in his own home that he pays for untill there is a law stateing otherwise (like that town in cali).
id bitch at the landlord more than anything, get that heating/venting system partitioned. this is a very common problem. if i lived above some one that smoked cigs id bitch to high heavin to my landlord.

there are filters out their that are not to expensive even as cheep as 5 dollars, that would stop all this, the cheapest one I have seen is called "Hello Neighbor"

this is not it but the closest thing I could find, the hello neighbors they sell at smoke shops or head shops usually where they have bongs and papers they have hello neighborers they look like a chap stick or a lip stick container

I don't think what OP is asking/doing is unreasonable. If I had neighbors or people in the same building that scream all the time or bang stuff 24/7, I would try to ask them to stop or take it to someone higher. In other words, the smell is clearly bothering OP, so it makes sense to try and solve the problem rather than complain about it and do nothing. I doubt the whole neighborhood smells afterward though.

Ask him to find a way to mask the smell more, and if he straight up doesnt then go to someone higher, and if they cant do anything find a way to get rid of it in your house.
