Metal Halide Bulb Failed-After 24 Days!!
I couldn't believe my eyes...I was standing there watching over my babies and then "TINK," the 600w is dead. Are you fucking kidding me?! Ok, not all is lost because I changed it out to the HPS bulb and it fired up. I know most of you are like ..."no big deal"...but I am kind of anal about this shit, so I am upset . The babies are small and vegging-not time for HPS yet.
I got my stuff from HTG Supply. And of course it's New Year's Eve, so I won't get this straightened out until next week.
I looked at the bulb, and there is not sign of a burn out, but I am not a bulb expert. I have had no luck growing indoors-and the trend continues! @#$%^&*(
Sorry, rant is over, and thanks.

HID lamp bulbs have a high failure rate; even at the factory!. A lot of manufacturers, pre-burn a bulb, before selling it...(Phillips...)
MH bulbs have always had short life spans, compared to HPS. That's why most street lights are HPS....:wtf:
bottomline: ALWAYS have a spare bulb; if using HID lights....

Hey not sure if this can apply to you now or in the future but. I use Hortilux Eye bulbs and they cost more and seem to work damn fine, but the nice feature is the shop that sells them to me offers a year warranty on their bulbs. Just a thought oh and I switched bulbs yesterday and I save the older one just in case something goes bad. Then after a few old bulbs are adding up I bring them to the store to dispose of.

Are you sure this was a 600w MH bulb? I ask because I didn't think such a thing existed. If you were using a 400w or 1000w MH with a 600w switchable ballast that would explain the early failure. Just a thought.

This makes me want to quit my job to watch the plants.

No 600watt MH? Why are folks claiming that doesn't exist? Motdot even told you where he got it - I found the product he must have purchased in less than 30 seconds.
Sucks you got the lemon bulb, Motdot. Sounds like it could have been any of us. I've had good luck and never had a bulb burn out on me like that, but if I did I'd be in trouble since I actually don't have spares sitting around. Good luck with your green endeavors!

The only 600 watt MH is a conversion bulb. I know this because I use one. I'm not a grower, I just play one on the internet.
Metal Halide Bulb Failed-After 24 Days!!
Conversion bulb? I thought the special ballasts could run either standard bulb.
Apparently I am unaware of the whole situation. I am a somewhat experienced grower, but I've never worked with any 'switchable' lighting systems like that.
Perhaps someone with more experience than I can tell us just how that system, in its various configurations, is different from non-switchable hardware. I won't lie; I've considered buying one but never studied up on how they really differ. Is this kind of catastrophic bulb failure more likely with this setup?
Metal Halide Bulb Failed-After 24 Days!!
Well digital ballast equal switchable setup. as long as the mogul base type fits with the rated bulb it will work. Digital has its ups and downs I am sure but I am digging them for now. They run cooler then traditional ones and supposedly are better for the life of the bulb.

my bad there is a 600w MH but it's not a straight 600w MH it's a conversion bulb i was thinking a straight up 600w MH bulb cause i know for a fact they dont make them but thanx cause i learned something new need that info cause my buddy be having watch his hydro store dont wanna look stupid when some one ask
