Grandma gave 3-year-old grandson pot cookie
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
DENVER -- A Denver grandmother who recently took her own life was under investigation for giving her 3-year-old grandson a marijuana cookie.
Family members say 44-year-old Erin Marcove gave the toddler at least one peanut butter cookie made with cannabis butter on Dec. 4. The next day, she had trouble rousing the boy and called an ambulance.
A week later, relatives told KMGH-TV the grandmother took her own life. Marcove was an advocate for medical marijuana and had used the drug for chronic back pain most of her life.
Police seized a jar of cannabis butter at her home, and a police report showed the little boy had the drug in his system when he was taken to the hospital. The toddler has fully recovered.

Sorry J.,
I disagree strongly that this proves that MM is not dangerous. It proves that grandma overdosed the kid and apparently, mind you apparently, committed suicide in a guilt trip over the matter.
You should never have posted this. It is fuel for the enemy. It proves people do stupid things. It proves that lower body weight will need less medicine to have effect.
Once you get oral intake in and get the digestion going, there is no control.
Stupid, stupid, stupid.
But, I firmly believe in the proper setting it is not dangerous and in an overdose situation there MAY be less sequlae. Even that is not proven scientifically.
Having worked in the medical profession most of my life, I have never heard of an overdose of MM causing more than a sleep it off. There is no way to counteract it pharmcologically.
So, you see, I agree in context, but the context you put here does not corroborate your belief.
ANYTHING in excess can be dangerous.....anything.

btw the LD50 for THC works out to over a QP of PURE THC... try to put that in a cookie if you want.. and that is for a 180 lb person so make it a quarter of that and you still have OVER an OUNCE!!
not gonna happen sorry bro no OD for the kid he just had a problem getting up in the morning. it happens to me when i get really blazed every time

Yeah. Edibles have a different effect on you than smoking. I'm groggy in the mornings from brownies. Its a shame grandma gave the kid one and its a shame she killed her self over it. She did no harm to the kid, she just panicked.

I agree that it was stupid to give a child a psychoactive substance , however the biggest danger to the child would be a feeling of nausea and at worst stomach cramps.
Your definition of dangerous is obviously a world apart from mine.

My point here with this post was had it been any other "drug" the child most likely would not have lived. He was only 3 yrs old. He made a full recovery with out any side effects, except sleeping in. Find any drug availble to the public at large that compares? There is none.
As for the grandmother doing what she did in response to the histeria created, very sad indeed. This is what we all collectively need to stop. The histeria over a drug that didn't kill a 3 yr old when he ingested it. Yet it killed the grandmother indirectly by fear.
I guess it all depends on how one looks at it. The positive side of the coin or the negitive side.

you cant have one side with out the other.. basic geometry is there is no plane with one side....
and i agree Sr. the grammy was way too afraid and she was way too quick to act. one would think that a stoner would take longer to kill 'em selves, due to lack of motivation..
i hope that the family can get over this tragedy and the kid wont be harmed by his grams hasty action.. i think that he has more potential to be harmed psychologically later in life by her actions AFTER he was dosed then BY the dosing..
just my opinion

only thing this proved, is that grandma is a stupid bitch, that, had she lived, should have gone to prison for a long time ... nobody should have to be told, that you DON'T give children drugs

A Denver grandmother 44-year-old .
Man after reading this bit of news I feel older than Dirt.
I initially thought the 3yo was in serious trouble. But Thankfully He is ok.
Personally I feel its a mistake to make medicated edibles when there are little ones around. After all if it looks like a tasty sugary treat and a little one sees it good luck trying to keep the child away from it. And keep the edibles far away from acess a 3yr old could get to. Because when your not looking They will search it out till they find it or something to suffice till they do eventually get to it. Best bet is to have the edibles under lock and key while young ones are around. Cause you dont want to feel the misery of children getting sick on your meds.

I totally agree. It was probably a pretty scary experience for him. I know the first time I got blazed I asked my friend to call an ambulance because I thought I was having a heart attack... Anyway, being SUPER-blazed to the point of tripping and taking a ride in an ambulance, hospital tests, a stay in the hospital. That shit probably freaked him out beyond belief.
Then when he finds out grandma was the cause of all this... and she possibly did it on purpose... that is gonna fuck this kid up!! It'll fuck up his sense of trust, etc. Man, he's gonna be more fucked up now knowing his grandma killed herself over it. Things could've worked out fine and they could've worked this out. Tragic!
She obviously had some mental problems...

Thats what medicine cabinets and child proof containers are for. I agree that this post provokes the eyes of the people that are angling to come down on the medical use of cannabis.
It must be treated as though it was any other medicine. It should be contained and labeled, so that these things don't have to happen. It was a mistake, and luckily for the child, nothing happened, but unfortunately, thats not the case for the grandmother. Its up to us, as patients to not give that stuff to anybody that it was not proscribed to, and to be very responsible with privilege to cultivate are own medicine. That to must be contained, and labeled clearly so that their aren't any unfortunate mishaps!

Are you guys freaking kidding me? you all blaze everyday knowing that your brain isn't dying. Your IQ is going up and you all think this grandmother is crazy because she gave her likely scatterbrained hyper ass rugrat too much cookie? The kid had to sleep it off...big deal...she gave him too much, OH NO...it didn't kill him. Think in just 3 years when the kid is in grade one or two, the teachers will be giving the kid ritalin. NOW THAT'S FUCKED UP!!! Repeal prohibition so that these parents (or grandparents) can get the proper dosing of a 3 year old. (p.s. don't tell me that you can't give children drugs because they are young, baby cough meds have meth in them and other chemicals way less safe than THC so FUCK OFF with that argument.)
Even tylenol has a child's dosage, so why can't weed? you can take enough so that you don't get high or lethargic, you know! But it still has benefits! OK? Enough is enough. Grow it everywhere! In your gardens! OVER GROW THE GOVERNMENT!!!
