First grow. Looking for advice
Hello all. This is my frist grow and im looking for a little advice. MY current setup is 2 workshop lamp holders and 4 cool white flouresent bulbs hanging about 3 inches from the top of the plant. Right now the plants are about 3 1/2 weeks old and hopefully already transplanted to their final pot. the square pot is 11x11x10 and i have 2 plants growing in it. This being my first grow im not sure if they are slow growing or looking pretty good. as you can see in the pictures they have a good green color canapy and for the most part perky. the smaller plant which spouted about 4 days later is much smaller and shorter. It's leaves are a little "Warped" i guess you could say as well. The room itself has good vent and air movement and is at a constant 68 F. Just wondering what my next steps are and what i should be expecting in weeks to follow. Thanks.

first off you should use seperate pots man.
them roots will be fighting for space down there and that will stunt its growth..
as for what you can expect..... you only get back what you put in?

I figured id get hell about having 1 pot. However i was also told that that pot was more then enough to grow 2 plants in. Lets hope it doesnt effect it all too terribley much.

anyone got anything else other then 1 plant per pot.

Well, how big are you going to let them get? 4 cfl's isn't all that much in terms of light so you might need to get a few more to put around the sides/top when they get some more height but you're fine for now. With temps that low you could actually put the lights about 1" away from the tops(2 on each) and the plant will get more light since fluorescents really don't throw light that far. You have any sort of fertilizer? A high N content in vegetative growth is recommended and a lower N and high P fertilizer in flowering is best. Towards the final few weeks of budding you want to basically stop giving N, then all nutrients all together; finishing with plain water to let the plant use up all it's stored nutrients.
With two plants in one pot, not only are your roots possibly going to get crowded but if you run into any sort of problem like incorrect pH or over/under-fertilization or over/under-watering it happens to both. Pretty much anything that goes wrong with one will transfer to the other so be careful or you could lose both.

Yeah one pot per plant. What you see above the dirt is the same under the soil, just in roots. But i also think your going to need more light. They recommend 5,000 lumen's to veg and 2,700 to flower. They look great now but they will do much better w/ more lights. CFL'S are cheep and you can get Y splitters to put 4 bulbs under a U lamp. I use them and so do a lot of people on here. I have 2 and want to go with at least 8 with 26w cfl's that would be 56,000 lumen's. Check out the lighting section and good luck:thumbsup::rasta:

Currently im not using cfl's just 4 regular long tube bulbs. Are cfl's better cause i have about 10 of them to use if so. i can add 2 more tubes but it wouldnt be directley above it not sure it would benifit any right now. When they get bigger i will prolly add another 2. As for fertilizer i havnt used any yet as i havnt felt they are lacking in any nuts. Should i go ahead and start using them in hopes to enhance growth? What if i dont use any at all can i still get decent results? As i said this is my first grow and before this have had little knowledge in botany. I just want a successful outcome and learn from there. Any guidance is appreciated.

the lights are 40w 3200 lumens. So 3200 x 4 = 12800 lumens. I assume my lighting is fine... anyone confirm?
-
First grow. Looking for advice
Also do they seem small for 24 days old?
-
First grow. Looking for advice
I THINK UR LIGHT IS TOO CLOSE... I NEVER PUT IT CLOSE DURING VEGATATIVE STAGE ONLY FLOWERING. FROM WHAT I KNOW U WANT THEM TO STRETCH A LIL WHILE THEY VEG. MINES ARE 12-24 INCHES USUALLY ON THE 2-3 WEEK
HERES A PIC OF MY INDOOR FLOWER ROOM
-
First grow. Looking for advice
Don't know why you would want them to stretch...stretching during veg usually means the plants aren't getting enough light.
I think your plants are a little bit slow, but I've seen way worse. Remember that the light in the tubes is spread across the whole 4' tube so the plants are only getting a portion of the lumens that it's rated at.

Are ferts used for faster growth? If so what is recommended?
-
First grow. Looking for advice
No ferts untill they have about 4-5 nodes. If you have soil that has an analysis on it, you shouldn't need nutes for a good bit seeing as thats a giant container.

Well the more the better but if ya have cfl's, when they get bigger i would use em for sure. Even now you could use them 2-3'' away from your plants they will grow faster. But, what ya got going on looks good, but add the other 2 lights and try to reflect some light your loosing from the sides with painted flat white card board or something reflective. I started w/ 2 cfl's as its a set up and grow at the same time due to low cash flow. But, after i put the y splitters on, you could tell the difference each day. You will see the difference over night. But, other then that, they look great:thumbsup:.Oh and yeah no nutes yet as this was answered:jointsmile:

I just replanted them both into their own pots, i will post a few pictures in a few days after a hopefully successful transplant.
-

I also just broke down and added a cfl directly in the middle of the pots. not much room under there but i got it. Temp is now a steady 70.

Alright, you're well on your way now. Stay vigilant, it's only a little while longer!
How big are you expecting to let your plants get? I'd say you might have 2 or 3 more weeks until you start to flower if you plan on using fluorescents the whole way. Now's the time to get yourself ready: make sure you have enough lights to finish a 2-3' plant(fluoros only penetrate like half a foot or so really well) and some fertilizer with a higher P and fairly low N.

Today i also went out and bought new cfl's and replaced the ones i had in my setup right now. I noticed that i wasnt using 6500k daylight bulbs so i switched them out. Hopefully that will give them a better spectrum of light they need.
After transplanting them last night and watering them the leaves are still droopy. im assuming it takes them a few days to recover from the transplant and continue growth.

they do look a bit small for 24 days, heres a pic of mine at 27.

if you play around with your plants too much you will encounter problems and i found that out the hard way ! just try not to think about them too much and let them do their thing !!
good luck:rastasmoke:

The leaves droop when you water a lot. Now that's not really a bad thing since you just transplanted and probably watered quite a bit, but if they don't perk up soon there could be other problems causing it.

First grow. Looking for advice
Here are pictures of my biggest plant 9 days ago. I had to mix soil when i transplanted and have a feeling that is what cause some nute problems but seems to be under control now.
-
First grow. Looking for advice
they have grown alot in the past 9 days for sure. but the biggest one i dont really kno whats going on with it. I water till i see water draining out of bottem and 2 days later soil is dry, crispy and the soil edge is coming in from the pot. So i water again.... plant then starts to droop alot as you can see. any help would be welcomed. The smaller plant is really bushy, under its big leaves there are a ton of little sprouts and leaves. i tried to show in the picture. The temp within 3-4 inches of the plant is about 77-79. They seem to be growing fast now but seems to be all out and compact and not really much height which i suppose is okay. Im under the impression to not start flowering till the plant has reached its full mature state which you can tell from the alternating growths from the stem rather them symmetrical. confirm or deny?
btw the first 2 pics are biggest plant second 2 of are smaller plant

1 of my plants looks as if there are preflowers. she is my oldest been in veg for 2 months. what you think? I have few problems with nuts as you can tell but nothing that is really stopping growth it seems.

I would say they look pretty good, yellowing on a few of the plants but I don't think it will be a big deal? Are you giving the plant some type of nutes? They can go into flowering now:D Really whenever you want but i'm hoping to kick my babies into flowering at 4-5 weeks veg.
-
First grow. Looking for advice
no nutes as of today. i might start giving some blood meal thou. I really would like to confirm that 1 of my plants is female as i want to clone off her so i can stop wasting time with seeds. As for flowering them, im gonna hold off and let them get fully mature as i dont really care about time. I just want a quality grow for my first time.
-
First grow. Looking for advice
Did you ever get that drooping situation fixed??? It looked like overwatering... hope everything is okay now!
-
First grow. Looking for advice
Im pretty sure it was overwater. I cut back on my water for a week and things started to perk up. 1 plant thou ( back left plant in my recent pictures) seems to just droop. I think it has to do with the lights being just a little bit too close. which in return i think makes the plant not fan out as much. I have recently moved the grow to a better grow area which i hope is easier to manage things like light. temp etc... Once i confirm a female i will then start and learn how to clone.

If you open link you can see pistil marked. Second is male, just if you wanted a visual. After 2 months in veg, they would be ripe to flower, in less your trying to get more height out of them.
Good luck man:rasta:

BTW when using soil with nute added, iv found that when they are more on the dry side, they are more stable. When that type of soil is watered, it kicks out nutes, so over water is over water, plus nute burn. At least thats what happen to me, but keeping them dry keeps the soil from over nuting:thumbsup:

ya im for sure i dont see any balls. But i dont really wanna put plants into flowering until i for sure found a mother i can clone. I was hoping i would have one pre flower and make it easy for me. im pretty sure those are pistils..... but then i dunno much.

There is prep to be done.. im going to have to get lights for another room and timer for 12/12 etc. I was looking for a more scientific answer........ i know it has to be done but about how long do i have?

drooping usually means not enough water...so just stick your finger in the soil about 2 inches deep and feel how wet...if you feel any moisture at all dont water but if none then water...happy growing...

oh and about the flowering...some people say let her grow untill she is around 12 to 16 inches tall then force flower it by swithcing to 12/12 light
