My first Grow Set up - Please provide feedback

Gents and Ladies,

So I have been doing research on growing for a few weeks and decided that I have enough knowledge to at least start getting into it. The rest I figure I can learn as I go along right?

Anyway, here is my first grow set up, I know it's ghetto and jerry rigged any way possible, but one of my requirements was that it needed to be mobile and it needs to contain everything inside the box. After I built it, I saw a post from another guy here who actually had two bins, that definitely is better, but I didn't think about that before I started.... anyway, this will be the nursery after which point I will transfer the plants into a larger/taller space for flowering.

The pics are attached, the bottom of the big tub will be flooded with water, I can hold about 3 gallons in there. Then the plants will be on the plastic shelf in the other picture, I also have a small clear container that I can use to root plants in.

Any feedback would be much appreciated. I am especially looking to answer these questions:
1. Will it grow in there?
2. How can I improve it!

Keep your light, I don't understand at all what the rest is trying to do except for some really weird hydroponic set-up that I don't think will work right and then I'm really confused about how the plants will be in the thing and the soil if its a hydro set-up, anyways. Find your closet, build a small box form(2' x 2' x 4') and wall it off with anything light proof. Then mount your light and get some pots and do a soil grow. Starting off hydro with no experience will definitely cost you more money than you want to.

The hydro set up is definatelly a maybe....the thing is I am not sure I can water the plants every 6 hours. However I am using some soil, it will be in those paper cups for now, until I can transplant it to something bigger. I am mainly looking for an automated watering system.

All the more reason to go soil at first. It's more forgiving, and you only have to water on average every 2-4 days. I'm not saying a noob can't pull off hydro, but you may want to keep it simple at first.

So I only have to water 2-4 days?

Since it's my first plant, I am really looking for something simple too, thanks for the info.

i guess i will just keep my plants in the bin and water them manually, that way it's more forgiving and I get to take advantage of this contraption...... I ll start a grow log once the seeds germinate, all the help you can provide to a noob would be much appreciated!

Honestly, I would recommend getting some Miracle Gro Moisture Control. It takes a long time to dry out, and is a good judge. Wait for it to dry out, wait 1 days, then water. Repeat.

Well i really do like the Miracle Gro Moisture Control also.But what light are you using? I would think just from the pic's that it is going to heat up in there pretty fast and really high!! Just from looking but i would check out the temps with a day of test run befor putting the plant in. Good luck man cant wait to see what happens..:thumbsup:

Is there a sure way to know when to water? I ran that lamp in for a day and it didn't get too hot in the bin, however I think it if it is continuously on, it may effect the temps.

The blow fan is kick ass though, that thing can get the air to re-circulate in a few seconds. Also, a quick question, what can I do about CO2?

soil cfl fuck hydro its to coplicated my outdoor last harvest as 100x better than my buddies ebb hydro setup and he spent a grand on everything but h can also harvest twice one in july and one in september he got a pound off of four plants and i got 20 off of four in just sand no nuets and this shits bomb i grew ice outdoor nd its a indoors strain

huh??? so many flaws in what was just sed but any ways stick 2 the soils for the first grow,with so few plants hand watering isnt a big deal.if later u want to switch to the dro look up home made hydroponics systems and u will get a better idea of how to go about it.good luck

With the watering, its called a "weed" for a reason, it grows like one. It likes it dry SOMETIMES! Now I'm not saying let the thing prune up, but let the soil get good and dry for about a day, then water it, the thing will shoot up, this simulates raining. Think about when a plant is outside and there's no rain, it starts to slow the grow and just chill, then when it gets water, BOOM, lots of growth. Try it out, its your first grow. I went through like 3 before I even got a harvest.

I am starting with a 3-10-3 nutrient, do you think I should stick with that for the first two weeks or switch to something else?

Also, my seeds have been germinating for quite a bit now(about 48 hours) and still no progress, I have three in a wet paper towel in a zip lock back and about 3 in a water bottle, both are in a dark place. The seeds are still hard and are not opening up.

I tried adding a few drops of that fertilizer to the bottle of water, hoping that it will kick start it, but still no luck. I saw the article on the 100% germination and planning to build that, however all hydro stores were closed for the weekend.

Is there anything else I can do?

Also, one article I would find helpful for noobs are some of the common pit faults that people run into while growing for the first time. Who knows, maybe after I get better at this, I can write one myself....

Hiya Uncle, well the 3-10-3 should be fine i think but not for the first 2-3 weeks..Let them get established before starting the nutes, and then start with like 1/4 of what the bottle says to use just to ease them into it.. As far as when to water them you can check the soil 1 inch deep to see if the soil is dry or wet or moist. You really dont want the soil soaked but just moist so not to get root rot but if let dry out to much my theory is the roots will grow looking for water and maybe get root bound,just my theory as for the c02 you can use warm water with sugar and yeast in a plastic bottle to produce c02 and you can find lots of post on these forms and the web to research that with no problem. I hope this helps man and if anyone finds im wrong here please let us know..lmao.. anyways man good luck and in in this one till the end so keep us posted as to how ya doin there..
