Dood you should NOT be watering everyday no matter how big your plants are. They need to have the soil dry out sometimes because the roots need to be encouraged to expand futher. Also I believe that when the soil dries out it probably allows the plant to breath a little more (oxygen, carbion dioxide, etc) for a while and just as long as watering/rain continues regulary the plant will be much healthier.
However, it is definatly true that water constantly is going to cause heavy more limp stems and leaves. What you should do is at the least work out a schedule where it gets a day without being watered inbetween.
Also like the other guy said, getting a fan to blow on it would without a doubt thicken up your stems because it encourages the plant to produce hormones which cause the thicker stem. What you could also do if you couldn't do that or better yet do it conjuction would be to give your plant a nice shaking everyday. Be careful but giving it a little stress like this can be very beneficial to the plant. One more thing, it'd probably be good to set up some kind of support stick to prevent the plant from ever falling over.
thanks for the advise. this is my first year so i didnt really know what to do when it came to watering. they are in the ground so there is probably a lot of moisture in the ground where the roots are. should i not water them for a couple days? how many days a weel should you water the wheather is around 60
You want to be watering by your eye as much as anything keep an eye on the soil as Weather can fluctate on how quickly the Plant uses the water. The best time to water is early morning before the sun has a chance to start Heating then dont water again until your plant looks ready sounds weird but you can tell .....
Once every 2 days and due to it being outdoors i would only use 1/2 litre for 3Ft plant.
Like Smoketobehappy said Your plant needs growing and breathing space jsut as much as it needs water.
Aaron definitely makes a good point that weather is always changing and your schedule needs to change with it. Where I have my grow the temps have been 85-60f high-low and I do fine going twice a week to check up. Usually on Wednesday I just give them a good helping of regular tap water (I test my ph though every now and then to make sure its okay, its usualy like 7.3 to 8), and from the same source of tap I mix in regular strength foxfarm nutes (growbig for vegative growth).
I would definitely say a schedule like this would work for you because if its usually around 60 where your grow is the moisture isn't leaving nearly as fast as say, 80 or 90 degrees.
Which brings up a question, whats your current feeding (nutrient supply) schedule? Have your begun adding nutrients to the water yet? If you have, then for how long and what kind? Theres no doubt a lack of nutes could cause "limp" growth that appears most healthy but not very vigorous per say.
i give them a half doze of miracle grow every monday. i mix it into a two liter bottle and then give them that. but i would usually give them about 4 liters of water a day maybe a bit more sometimes. so i will keep off the water for a good three or four days and then give them about a liter every two days.
I'm not familiar with the majority of miracle grow nutrients so all I can say as a general tip is make sure you got your numbers right. For example, make sure your not really doing 1/4 strength when you think your doing 1/2 strength you know. Second of all, if your capable of getting a ph reading somehow I would definitely take a look at that to make sure its not too or high cause that could be causing a ton of nutrient lock out (assuming it IS happening, it could easily not be the problem).
Also my other advice (and I think a lot of people will agree with me on this) would be to change your nutes. Its generally accepted among the cannabis growing community that miracle grow is a no no as it has a reputation of being behind in performance when compared to other nutes (foxfarms, advanced nutrients, humboldt, homebrew), as well as being more likely then other to cause nutrient burn (MG isn't organic most of the time, although they DO have organic products).
Yeah dood you should work out a schedule so it gets watered about twice a week, give or take one day depending if its unusually hot or cold then the norm. Make sure its only getting fed once a week; many people seem to forget it takes a pretty descent amount of time to actually be able to observe how the last feeding truely affected the plant (1 or 2 days is certainly not enough, even 3 is still cutting it really short). If you feel like the plant can handle handle more nutes, add an extra 1/4 of "strength" to the solution, i.e. if your using 1/2 strength, then you'd move to 3/4 strength. You can go even by steps of 1/2s but you really gotta watch yourself then because your plants might not like the sudden change even if they were "ready" to a point.
Have you got any pictures ??
if you have over waterd the plant the rootball will be drowned small and tangled which means you will need to replant in good airy soil.
i am not sure if the doze is exactly 1/2 the strength but i am positive that i gave them about the same amout of miracle grow each week. i have been giving them the same amount for about 2 months so i will try increasing the amount that i give them. i havent watered them in two days and they are still looking really healthy and bright green. i have also been giving them a good shaking in the morning when i go outside nothing big that will hurt the plant. my friend told me to use gatorade powder and mix it in water and give them about one gallon of water a week with a little gatorade powder mixed in to hydrate the plant. i was wondering if this would help at all? or i have also heard of carbonated water because it helps to get oxygen to the roots? i too have also heard that miracle grow isnt the best plant food so i will be getting a new one soon and see how that works.
to answer your question aaron they were in small pots about 2 and half gallons until about three weeks ago. i then planted them into the grounbd about three weeks ago and the roots were pot bound as expected. they have grown about a foot maybe more since i have put them in the ground. there is nothing wrong with the plants they look very heathly and green and are growing fine they are just not as strong as i would like them to be. i will get some pictures up tomorrow or later today.
I'm going to assume there is chemicals in gatorade that might not be safe for growing and say that's probably not a good idea. There has gotta be another source of carbonation that's more pure if you really want to go ahead and try it.
well i dont want to give me plant something that is not good for it. i take it that you know what you aret talking about so i will pass on the gatorade. i think the best thing to do now is just wait and let the soil completely dry and then set up a watering schedule that works from there.
also i went to the store and there were so many nutes i didnt know what to get. what are some of the ones that are popular to cannabis?
Make sure you don't let the soil too long you don't want to go to other extreme lol. You should probably look at foxfarms nutrients. Look for the ones called growbig, tiger bloom, and big bloom, they usualy come in a 3 pack (at least online usualy. If you want to talk to the guy at the store about it you could say your growing tomatoes because most nutrients that are okay for tomatoes are ok for cannabis.
