UK Outdoor Frisian Dew 4 1/2 months old
Hello Everyone
Have a long thread in the plant problems section entitled ''pest spray burnt my leaves'' but thought I would post something here now as my problem has gone and it is an outdoors plant. OK.
So she is now 18 weeks old or 4 and a half months old and now a little over five foot tall. I have a concern/question for you kind people. I read something last night that said if you start your grow too early it messes up the plant and it will grow tall but not yield too much of the good stuff??? Apparently the best time to start an outdoors grow is June 1st???? Is this correct? I started late March! My concern......
She is already huge and hasn't started to flower yet. The packet of seeds said that the flowering stage for Frisian Dew is 7 to 8 weeks so another 2 months!!!! and that harvest should be the 1st week of October. My question is how much bloody taller is she likely to get in the next 2 months?
On the plus side she looks and smells amazing and seems happy in her new home. I'm not too concerned about the yield as it's for personal use but I would hate to have grown her for all this time and to only get like an ounce or something.
Sorry, 1st time grower stressing about nothing again I'm sure!!!
Here are some pics for you to enjoy.......
PS. Love feedback, how does she look ??? :rasta:

First looking at that you will probably pull a few ounces off it, if not, more!
By looking at the REAL sativish look in the leaves I'm going to say it will at LEAST triple in size during flowering. So you figure when it's all said and done, it may be possible that it ends up being 10ft +/-
Also, are you sure it's a female? Or did you just grow out the seed hoping for the best?! LoL :D
-
UK Outdoor Frisian Dew 4 1/2 months old
The Seeds were feminized and a few people who are seen it said it looks female so that is what i'm basing it on. You really think it could grow as tall as 10ft??? I may have a problem lol
-
UK Outdoor Frisian Dew 4 1/2 months old
It's possible! LoL I've heard some full blown sativas stretch almost 5X it's size!!!! If that were the case with yours (which I doubt) it would be almost 20-25ft!!!! DAMMNNNN THAT WOULD BE A HUGE ASS TREE!! :D But definitely will double in size minimal! Being outside that's why I say triple.
Looking at the background on your frisian dew, it says high yield for outdoor grows, so I'm assuming yours will come out wonderful! They look beautiful by the way!

Hey, wherever you read that they were very off base. Generally the earlier you start, the more time the plant has to gain size and budding sites and the more you'll get. beginning of june is fine too, but I start the middle of May. As far as flowering if you start earlier the plant will be more sexually mature and more likely to flower just as soon as the photoperiod allows, hence harvest a few weeks earlier than if you planted in say middle of june. She's most likely about to flower in the next few weeks and her growth will greatly slow for 1-2 weeks as she hits puberty of sorts, lol. then it will continue to grow 2 or 3 feet taller as it is flowering. When you read that it flowers for 7-8 weeks that was probably forindoor growing, however, outdoors flowering can be a slightly different time frame and she'll probably be finished the first or second week of october either way. Well, enough ramling for me, good luck and happy harvest.

So there was a massive storm last night and the greenhouse blew off knocking the plant in the process. I wasn't around but got told about it this morning. Apparently the plant was leaning majorly to the point where it was almost on the ground so a friend put a stick of bambo in the soil to tie it upright again.
When I arrived to inspect the damage I noticed that all of the leaves where very droopy (I assume this would be down to stress???) Thankfully none of the branches snapped, only a few of the smaller leaves and fallen off.
I've managed to errect the greenhouse again and secure it much better this time.
Just wondering if the droppyness of the leaves is down to the stress of the whole situation or if the bambo might have damaged some of the roots??
My plan is to leave it be for a couple of days and see how it copes. Any other things I should be checking for?
Thanks

very nice!!!!
from my personal exp. my girls have always slowed down on stretching during flowering.
the stick cud have damaged sum roots, depending on how close it is to the stalk and how deep the stick is. the droopiness could be from all the rain it got, not sure if the rain got to it at all... hope its doin ok.
watch for lil white hairs every few days... that will tell u its female.
quite a few of mine have already sexed out, im thinkin due to the cloudy weather we been havin... usually dont see sex til early Aug. in my region.
Good Luck.

Yea i would have to agree about the plant triplying in size. Mine went from monster bush to super monster Forest with in a month near the end although my plant started to grow out and not up after a while.
You should have no problems keeping the plant were it is if the branches start to touch the sides just bend them move them around.
Do you take the Tent thing off during the day when its sunny or does it stay in there ??
HAhA you got lucky with no damage from the storm just wait till you plant is near its end and heavy then when the storm comes back it splits your plants main stem ( just like mine did  ) its a disaster !!
Any more pics ? :D

Hi Guys
Thanks for your interest. So it's been a few days since my last post so I thought I would update and ask a few more questions for a change. Here goes
I have now moved her from the greenhouse as the top was hitting the roof and restricting her growth (she is 6ft now). As she is going to grow a few more feet I felt that bending her was not an option so the greenhouse had to go. As a result of her growth and the lack of space available the top of the plant looks a bit messed up but I hope this will adjust itself in the next few days???? I'm glad you've said that sex dosen't show normally till early Aug cos as of yet I have no solid evidence that she is infact a female. Just guessing and praying.
My main question is this.
I have automatic lights that come on in the garden when something triggers it, ie a human, cat, fox or burglar etc....... I can turn this off so ultimate darkness is ensured, but I wanted to know just how sensitive plants are to light disruption during the flowering period? I live in a fairly residential area where house and street lights are slightly visible from the grow area.
Attached are the latest pics. Thanks once again guys

you could induce flowering if it isnt already... and could slow down stretch and know for sure what you have, female/male.
cover it up about 2 hours before sunset at the same time each day, leting no light in.. then when the sun has totally set, remove the covers. that will imitate 12/12 sunlight/darkness.
2-3 more weeeks and most all plants will be sexing out because of the shorter days getting near.
-
UK Outdoor Frisian Dew 4 1/2 months old
ting ting street lights can be your worst enemy in a garden
i have seen pictures of plants were 1 side had darkness and went into 12/12 cycle naturally and the otherside of the plant stayed in vegative growth without budding at all all due to a street light .
i would say keeping total darkness is a must even if its the security light its worth making sure it does not light up your plant.
the top of the plant will sort itself out with the next fw days of light.
i was told once to keep pinching the top of the plant encouraging it to grow outwards and not up anymore but i would get more advice about that before you start picking :D
the pics are looking great shame we cant all share our agrden treats :D
-
UK Outdoor Frisian Dew 4 1/2 months old
The thing is I'm not sure the owner of the house is going to go for the ''disabling the security lights idea'' ! How would one cover the plants otherwise to ensure total darkness? Bin bags? Sorry for all the questions! Never knew one plant would take such time and effort
-
UK Outdoor Frisian Dew 4 1/2 months old
bin bagd are fine if you cut open both ends. Alot of mistakes were made by putting bags over the top meaning they suffocate and sweat out. If u have got time to do it properly then you should be fine.
Shame you green house is to small i would just build a wall with the poles using black bags and not the green so easy to use everynight :D
i know how u feel about a plant taking up time and effort i had to do so much research on here myself books and internet
i had to go out 2am to put my plant in a big shed when wind was to much talk about devotion :D lol but it gives you a treat at the end i guesss
-
UK Outdoor Frisian Dew 4 1/2 months old
I'm not sure bin bags would even fir around her now, she is nearly 3/4 foot wide and only going to get bigger. The security lights are going to be hard to get turned off. I've directed them so they are now facing downwards but they will still light some of the garden even though they arn't directly pointing at the plant. There is some protection from light from other trees but I'm getting the impression that there needs to be zero light at night time for her to go into flowering. Really not too sure what to do!
-
UK Outdoor Frisian Dew 4 1/2 months old
Well Zero light is perfect but you cant always make sure for reasons.
The security light should be fine as long as its not ON and OFF Constantly all night.
-
UK Outdoor Frisian Dew 4 1/2 months old
Well I'm off on holiday on Saturday (someone will be keeping an eye on her) for around 10 days so I'll have to assess the situation once I return. Before I had the greenhouse she was spending her days outside and nights indoors so this will be officially her first night outdoors in the brutal UK environment. Let's see how she does............:hippy:

Hey, tingting, maybe an easy solution would be to put up two tall stakes and attache a small brown tarp as a light barrier on just one side where the light pollution is coming from like a wall, something where you could unhook the tarp in the morning and put back up at night. Would be pretty simple and provide enough darkness to allow for flowering. Where I used to grow I checked on my plants at night with a dim keychain light and it didn't bother them. I don't thnk they need absolute darkness, just as much as you can give them. Besides, when the full moon is out it can be pretty bright but they still manage. Good Luck.

Hey 86th.
That's a pretty good idea, been thinking of something along those lines for the last few hours. I'm gonna try construct something tomorrow so I'll let you know. She's getting huge man, hope it turns out to be a healthy female with a massive yield!
-
UK Outdoor Frisian Dew 4 1/2 months old
Like i said use the polls from your green house thing the plant was originally in :D
that way it will stay safe and robust last thing you need is the wind blowwing down your light barrier whilst your sleeping.
-
UK Outdoor Frisian Dew 4 1/2 months old
Going to have to construct something from scratch as we're going to use the greenhouse for something else. It's dark now. I went to see what it was like down the end of the garden since I adjusted the security lights. It is much much much darker than it was before but there are still a few beams of light which are coming through some of the other trees hitting the plant which is not good!!! Think I've come up with something which I'm going to design and put into place tomorrow to stop this problem so fingers crossed that in the next couple of the weeks I will be able to determine the sex of the plant and then hopefully watch her flower into something amazing!
Flowering has to start soon right???? It's nearly five months old and six foot!
-
UK Outdoor Frisian Dew 4 1/2 months old
flowering wont start til you get 12 hours of total darkness...
i think it takes about 1-2 weeks of 12/12 to show signs of sex.
-
UK Outdoor Frisian Dew 4 1/2 months old
right from what I learned it will be about 12/12 in the uk middle of september. She's going to be a monster by then!

Hey Ganjaman
Would love to have a look at some photos if you can work out how to post them. If you start a new thread, when your inserting message there should be a tool bar above the message box. Click on the button that looks like a paper clip and that will let you upload 5 pics. Really interested to see what yours look like. You based in the UK?

they usually start to flower at end july/beginning of august. Are you seeing any preflowers? By now it should at least be telling you it's ready to flower. But, you just like me, I watch my plants like boiling water, lol. My biggest plant just started to show male flowers :( . Half are beginning to flower. I don't have nearly enough patience. You prbably hae a female, though, usually the males are the first to show sex.

Hey Guys
This is going to be my last post before my vacation so time for an update and some new pics
The first white hairs have started to come through!!!!! They are too small to capture on my crappy camera but this gives me a lot of hope that is is infact female! She is adjusting to being outside 24/7 very well and is standing strong(with the help of some bambo) whilst enjoying the great weather we've had today. Hopefully things will just keep getting better from here on in and all the storms are behind us!
Here's a few new photos. Next update will probably be the start of August when hopefully we'll be able to see some bud action
Cheers

now then tingting i have 2 frisian dew i did'nt want a 6'5" bud monster so i topped both of mine when they were about 14" i've trained them to grow up each plant now has 8 branche's 2 are 4'2" and the other 6 stem's are about working from the bottom up 2 are 2'6" then the next 2 are 3' and then 3'6". and the other 1 is a little bit smaller so instead of a 6'5" bud monster i've got 2 bushy bud monster's .i only buy female seed's so i don't have the trouble your having now trying to identify what sex it is mine is coverd in little white hair's.i'll send some pic's soon.

Hey Ganjaman
I'm not overly pleased of the size of her but as this is my first grow I decided not to try anything risky. I guess I'm pretty pleased at how it's gone so far. The Frisian Dew seeds said they were feminized. How reliable in your experience is that information? Is it always the case or is there the odd occasion where some turn out to be male? What do you mean by bud monster by the way? What sort of yield should I expect to get? Sorry for all the questions lol

Hello Everyone
Back from holiday now. 2 Weeks away from the baby was hard work but what I came home to def put a smile on my face.
She is now a few inches over 7ft and I can now confirm that she is 100% female well on her way to giving me a great yield (fingers crossed) Lots of white hairs now!!! The weather I've been told has been pretty choppy but she seems to have been getting enough sunlight IMO.
Only bad thing I noticed is tiny holes starting to appear on a some of the leaves. I couldn't get any great shots of this damage as my camera was acting up a bit but In one of the photos you can clearly see what I'm talking about. A friend of mine who has a little experience said it was nothing to worry about but I would still like a 2nd or 3rd opinion!
Thanks all, any feedback much appriciated :D
-
UK Outdoor Frisian Dew 4 1/2 months old
Awesome plant, man! If I came home to that I might just get a stiffy, lol. The bug problem won't do any real damage to her at this point in the game, some bug bites are expected outdoors. You'll be sittin' pretty in 9wks.
-
UK Outdoor Frisian Dew 4 1/2 months old
Yeah I'm really happy with her now. Pruned some of the bottom leaves which were dying off or not getting enough light and gave her a real good water. Today she's looking amazing and hundreds of white hairs have now come through, This really is the most exciting part! I'm going to try and get some good photos of the bud progression when I fix my camera.

Nice looking plant man. I grew two on my deck(IN AVATAR). This was in 07, when i was less educated. Well, after reading a thread one day, i found out that the 07 grow hermied up cuz the chick that lives here sometime works a night shift. Well my daughter was turning on this small light for her to see. It hermied up both plants. Also, might have messed up 2 plants this year. I learned about the light leak thing just this year. If i were you id get cardboard, duct tape and a few poles to enclose it as much as possible. You dont want that plant going hermy on you. Really, after what iv read, light leaks are BAD. Its like as bad as just stop watering your plant. You would never do this of course, but the light thing, dont take it lightly..Sorry for the pun...............................Good luck guy:thumbsup::rasta:
