From outdoor sun to indoor LED

Hello everyone.. So this is my first post in any forum ever, im kinda excited about this...

So Ill start off by saying hello to everyone, my names David im very much into the medical marijuana scene and yes I have my card. I hope you guys enjoy my post!

The reason I decided to finally join a forum is because my friend and I have been at each others throats regarding indoor lighting, I personally love growing outdoors but of course he keeps trying to get me to go inside. So I told him, hook me up with some lighting and Ill give it a shot . Next thing I know hes at my door with a white square looking thing and says ok here's your light, I was wtf is this, he said its your light, im thinking ok? So he starts explaining this light to me tells me its all led, and im thinking yeah ok ive seen these on a few websites and read a lot on other forms regarding them with pretty much mixed reviews, he tells me something about how these lights that are red and blue in spectrum are alright and that theirs one new light that has red blue and orange and there a little better than the 2 spectrum light but still not whats needed to grow medical grade cannabis.

So I tell him yo this light looks exactly the same dumba$$ he says yea it is exactly the same till you turn it on, so I grab the thing (which weighed a little more than I thought) and plugged the fu..er in the wall and bam my eyes shut the thing was so fuc.in bright, I ran for my sunglasses and took a minute to adjust my eyes. I start really looking at the led's and notice that theirs a lot more different colors than i expected to see dark blues, blues light blues, yellow/orange, orange/red and dark reds and of course the whole time im thinking pretty but whatever.

He tells me he has been developing this light for the past 3 years after he heard about led's in a high times issue, he said he tested red/blue and the red/blue/orange combination but wasn't fully satisfied compared to his mh and hps combo, he said it was really close but not exactly what he wanted. So he starts by telling me about all this research hes dont and experimented with different nanometer led's and blah blah blah, really I could give a f less just grow my sh.t and make it good.

Any way to make it short he basically tells me he has dialed in a six spectrum led grow light specifically made to grow medical grade cannabis from seedling to beautiful sticky buds. No normally I would be like yeah bro wtf ever take those led's and make some Christmas lights or some sh.t, but since ive known the guy for so long I figured wtf do I have to loose? nothing.

So he gives me a 300w led light and a 4x2x6 grow tent for nothing and tells me the only thing he wants is for me to keep track of the growth of the plants since im the first person besides himself to try this 6 spectrum light out, I tell him sure no problem.

The next day I set up the tent some fans timer and the usual stuff, walk out to my backyard and grab 4 clones that i had planted each in 3 gallon buckets. I got the clones from a dispensary in van nuys about a month ago they have been outside for the whole month and where just barley starting to bud for some reason i sad fu.. it im throwing them in the tent on a 12/12 cycle, I know you guys are thinking no way did he just do that, but yes i did. I have plenty of full grown beautiful plants going the clones where kinda just there and still small so I figured why not.

I started the indoor grow July 4th with the clones, today is the 14 and well what can I say the plants are growing better under the led than the natural sunlight. I am truly amazed so far now its only been 10 days so im not getting my hopes up as of yet but its kinda hard to control myself just by seeing the difference already, I mean its seriously jaw dropping. I was always trying to avoid going indoors cause of numerous factors like high heat, high electricity bills and well you know everything else, but who knows now if they flower like he said I will def go fully inside with his LED light.

Well ill keep you guys posted if you want, i took pictures of the plants on july 4 and pictures of them today so you can see what im talking about I know there nothing to impressive right now. Let me know what your thoughts are, oh and remember regarding the july 4th picture the plants had already been out for a month and about 7 days prior to going under the led light.

Nice to see you trying LEDs, the 2-band tri-band routine seems to be more marketing hype for UFOs the anything else. Procyon 100s use just two color LEDs (Cree's) and work quite well for veg and even flower.

I currently have 2 TI pro-blooms and they conatain a much more diverse mix of LEDs, including UVb. But you would not really want to start vegging seedlings or clones with them, they are really geared to flowering.

You should try putting your 2 short plants up higher. You can use an over turned empty pot to raise them up or make a shelf out of a board and put that on bricks or something. That's just my :twocents: . Good luck, I'll be watching.

Thanks for the good advice I just put the smaller plants up on a shelf the two skunk #1's are growing so much faster than the white widow and trainwreck..

I've also been growing under a 300w LED with just the red & blue LEDs. It works really well once the plants are established (about 2-3 weeks after sprouting), but the 6 seedlings I started just got really long stems and flopped over.

When you started the seedlings how far away was the light from the pots? I talked to my buddy about this and he said theirs a reason why they did that, something about a certain color that needs to be present during the sprouting process but he wouldn't tell me which one.. the asshole said it was top secret.. lol.. what happened after they flopped over what did you do?

Some secret, just read a horticluctrial textbook. It's called blue light, stimulates a hormone in the plant that promotes root growth. That is why most experts suggest fluorescent during seedling stage or for rooting cuttings.

Ok people here is my update. This are pics exactly 10 days from the last pictures I posted, I think i took better pics for you guys this time.

The plants seem to be doing good I found one plant with spider might's but so far I have that situation under control. I have been having problems with the heat though, Its been getting over 100 F everyday and im growing in a shed with a tent inside. All I have in the tent is a fan the plants and a light. I know I could be doing a better more articulate job in growing these plants but hey I just wanted to see what this LED light could do.

Well I hope you guys enjoy the pictures, I took some pics outside in natural light and some inside with different exposures and used my flash in some to. let me know what you think.

Too much Red. The red/blue ratio has a great effect on plant growth including strectch. More blue for cuttings and seedlings and vegative growth then more red for flowering. Weezard has a set-up with a knob to adjust amount of red to blue ratio....called it "dial-a-stretch" as I recall.;)

Nice pics, things look to be going well. Did not notice excessive tip burn, but that usaually is first sign of pushing a little too hard with nutes. Keep in mind also your grow medium will not dry out as fast under LED as with other lighting, and getting a dry period between waterings is important for plant health (especially roots).

having the light too high?, not have a fan on your plants? cheap led lights with wrong wave lengths? temps are too high? i dont think its the too much red, because i have 90watt ufo tri-ban. 70 red led 10 orange and only 10 blues on my light and i dont have streching. my are sativas they grow tall but my nodes are good compared to my old 400w hid light.

:wtf: IMHO there is too much red in that panel (for clonning or seedlings). If you look at Cpt's pics it is the same as if someone used an HPS for a seedling, they tend to "go to the light". I grant you the effect may have been lessened if the panel was much closer but it is the result of the red. But hell, I've only been experimenting and using LEDs for 2 1/2 years now....what would I know? Oh, and I've only been growing pot for 60+ years now.

BTW, while you have a "90watt ufo tri-band" I have a 740w homemade Hybred that is 240 Red Cree's + 8 40w T5VHOs, had 2- Procyon 100s (used for abt 8 months), and in a partnered grow right now, am using 2 TI Pro-blooms, currently in a frame with 4 4'T5 VHO for a total of 1000w hybred. I've actually tested, side by side 660w of LED against 1000w HPS. Soon I'm about to add 2 more TI pro-blooms to use 4 over a 4'x4' aero/fog tray.

Here's a pic of 2 TI pro-blooms, side by side with HPS. If you look close you'll see "pre-production unit" on them, I've been playing with these over a year now.

i give it to you u have a nice set up. but u dont have to be a dick and clown on my 90w ufo. all i was saying is i have alot of red in my led and dont have any streching or week stems. i aways have a fan on my plants and my steams are never week and fall over. her is a pic of a indaca i grew with my red led dose it look like their is a week stem or streching? and i only had a few blue leds with a ton of red. so tell me why its not all week stem and streched out? its all about the wavelengts and where each led is placed, u should now this you made one.

"tri band" bullshit is just that marketing hype from the same assholes who say it will replace a 600w hid. (they actually added orange because they didn't know what to do with all the red LEDs that couldn't reach wavelenght) I'd take a Procyon100 with only 2 colors of diode anytime. And it will outproform the chinese junk not because it's 10 watts stronger, but because the LEDs are what they are suppose to be.

I was surprised with the temps you have to deal with, 100f is a bitch, but looks like everything continues to grow. With your set up you really don't get to take advantage of the lower heat from your LED light, too bad. At least the light panel is not contributing to your heat problem.

Keep on growing and reporting, maybe provide some more info on your panel.

k first i didnt buy a cheap chinese led. its made in america.prosource world wide. second orange has alot to do with plant. By providing the SunBurst Orange light, not only promotes creation of carotenoids, which are required for plant health, but also add to photosynthesis, since the carotenoids pass their absorbed energy to chlorophyll. Carotenoids are required for plant health due to their ability to absorb destructive free radicals, both from solar damage and from chlorophyll production, whose precursors will damage plant tissue in the absence of the carotenoids. research found that test plants turned a deeper green, i.e. produced more chlorophyll, with the addition of our SunBurst Orange light component. This ability to increase a plant's chlorophyll content with this specific light wavelength is an important aspect that will enable the plant to achieve optimal vegetative growth ( your internodes will be much tighter & prevent stretching due to the plants ability to absorb the light it requires and thus doesn't stretch while looking for light that it craves ) this added ability will also increase flowering production.

and second of all for growing for 60+ years you plants pics on ur profile look like rookie plants. so dont be hating on my tri-ban because u fucked up and spent hella money on ur leds that grow shity bud for as many watts you use. show me some fat colas youve grow with ur leds befor you try to prech about being so bad ass with led and 60+ years or growing, because i am not impressed of what ive seen from ur pics. so next time you try to tak shit about color specturms, know what the ur talking about. i guess Ed rosenthal, jorge cervantes, mel frank dont know what they are talking about to when the say the orange spec is important for cannabis?

hey David i am sorry for all this bull shit that just happen on ur thread, i just get pissed off when people start talking shit for know reason, i was just giving my opion on why their might be week stems and fall over. i never said anyone was wrong. and to clear up the cheap led comment i made i was saying alot of these leds off of e-bay are cheap and dont work. its not just throwing blue and red leds where ever u want on a panle and it will work. its a true since behind it each one has to be place in sertin areas. ur plants are looking good i wish the best of luck to u:thumbsup:

I read up on the carotenoids and sunburst orange that potofgold had mentioned, theirs one thing I dont understand about what was said, carotenoids peak obsorption is in the blue spectrum so how does adding orange help exactly?

ive asked the company about that and they say its vital for the plant but since its such a competive market that they can releass any of the R&D info. they said they pay tons of monye for R&D that they cant risk another company getting their secerts. and they said the same about their new light with 5 ban spec with info red/far red. they told me that they offer a full 90day trail peirod on their lights if you dont like it then take it back. and they also said if you do a side by side test with one of their competers led lights and post it on you tube they will give you 50% off of ur light. so my question is why would they do this if they didnt work?

You are just too smart to buy into the marketing bs, hollywood33. Cannabiniods and there precursors start out while the plant is in the immature stage (vegging) and that is a product of blue light, just like you read about. And is the reason some blue is required by the plant when in mature stage (flowering).

"sunburst orange" sounds soooo cool, but there is no such color diode produced. You will see orange LEDs and hyper-orange LEDs listed at Mousers Electronics or any of the LED distributors, but "sunburst orange" is just a marketing bs term someone made up to sell crap.

Sorry to break potofgolds heart about this, all that stuff they are selling is based on off-shore (read china) mfg.

she's on week three of flower i dont think its bad for 90watts? i just got a 180w 5-ban grow light with info red so we will see if it works good. . i got it for $300 out the door. i think these girls are doing good for 90w right? let me know what u think. these are sativas
