For everyone looking for Dr's in RI.....
Hey everyone, I just wanted to post the reality of finding a Dr. in RI to make the proper reccomendation you are seeking. If you DO NOT have a condition that qualifies for getting a card, but you know a Dr that is willing to sign it, your all set. If you DO have a condition that qualifies, depending on what the condition is, you can go to ANY doctor. I suggest you go to your Primary Care physician first, and talk about it with him/her. If you have "depression" or "Anxiety" (like everyone in the USA) and can prove it with medical records, you may have a chance.... you just need to find the right doctor. That is the hardest part, because most Dr's are not just gonna write out a reccomendation for marijuana unless you have cancer or HIV or something like that. Most of the doctors in RI dont even know about the law, nevermind the NEW laws that have been passed. If you find a doctor who is willing to consider it, he/she wil just want to meet with you a few times to get a feel for you, then you should be all set. If you are just trying to get a card, and your a dumb stoner, forget about it, its not happening. We will have our first compassion center opening in 2010. Also, its not just RI Dr's can reccomend.... CT and MA doctors can reccomend to RI residents now under the new law. Good luck :rastasmoke:

I suffer from chronic vertigo resulting in daily severe nausea. I preprinted out the form for the doctor to sign, filled it out, went in to my otolaryngologist (SP?) and asked him to sign it. I said to him, I already use MJ and it helps, I don't care about your personal or professional feelings on it. It helps, I'm doing it, and you signing this form just means I won't get in trouble for helping myself and with the RI law you won't get in any trouble either. He read it over and immediately signed it. It was the first time for him and his office to ever be presented with the form. Odd I thought since this office deals with chronic nausea issues.
Anyway to get to the point, ultimately YOU are in charge of your health and welfare. Man or Woman up! Demand your rights. It's your right as a patient to refuse types of treatment that you don't agree with and recommend treatments/meds that you do. If your DR won't cooperate, get a new doctor.

Congratulations Sharon, if there is any help I can offer please let me know. I have a few med quality clones/cuts available for free, the only thing I ask in return is that you reach out and share knowledge or genetics to someone suffering.

Well said! I truly believe cannabis has a bona fide medicinal value to patients, but abuse of these compassionate use acts by people that don't REALLY need it compromises the integrity of the movement.
Although technically any CT licensed physician can write a recommendation, most are not familiar with its use. Also, most are unfamiliar with the rules and regulations regarding medical cannabis and therefore are reluctant to write one.
Things to look for in a good doctor for medical cannabis:
1. Familiar with state laws and regulations
2. Asks for your medical records
3. Spends time doing an exam and answering your questions

I am a patient in RI with documented IBS and GERD. You commented on my post looking for GI dr's in RI. If you are still practicing, I would like to schedule an appointment with you or another cannabis friendly colleague. I feel much more comfortable speaking with someone that is familiar with the laws and practices and I am not yet comfortable as I have just recently switched primary care physicians. Please message me if you can help me in any way. Thanks!

Hi, I called them today, spoke to Dave. He said they have 65 patients on the call back list for RI. The Dr. will come for a 3 day clinic once they have around 150 patients that are registered for appointments. He didn't say but it looks like it may take time unless they get more of a response. If you are even thinking about it and don't know if you qualify please give them a call.
I'm faxing over my last 4 Dr. visit notes today I hope. I have neuropathy in both my left leg and left arm. If it takes much longer I may give a local Neurologist a call to set up an appointment. I am a Veteran and have been visiting the VA Hospital here in Providence for the last 10 years. They don't recommend MMJ and my current Dr. is unable to assist due to the conflict of interest. If there are any patients that see a compassionate neurologist send me a PM or message! thanks...

wow good job patient0 did you know that it is against state law to release a doctors name who does medical marijuana and holds a penalty of 6 mounths jail time and a 1,000 dollar fine. its people like you that harm and will single handedly bring down a program that over 2,000 patients are in good job

Try this link. It should cost $150. or maybe sliding scale if you r on SSI.
There's a phone number but you must have a qualifying condition.

I have tried prednisone, flagyl, pentasa, asacol, mercaptopurine, had surgery 8 months ago to no avail and have now been turned to anti-TNF agents (scary how powerful they are). Luckily for me i have found that even when all of these options have failed and i begin to become ill again, marijuana has always allowed me to maintain as normal a daily routine as possible. My problem now is that i cannot find a doctor that is able to help. My previous doctor whom i had known for 15 years abruptly retired and thus my plan for receiving a recommendation has been halted. So i'm asking anyone out there who thinks they might be able to help, for a push in the right direction. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

:question:I can assure you, there are Doctors who, with the cash payment of medical services, will sign a, "Physician Consent" form. As facts will sustain, there are serveral. As was and is the case in California, and other marijauna approved states, there WILL be an element of social smokers who bypass the normal requirements. That's reality! There is a reason it is considered the, "largest cash crop" in America! The process of becoming approved in this state, is relatively easy. For that reason, if you are qualified, or require a Doctor to sign for your physical needs, know they most certainly do exist !

Hi,
I have been trying, unsuccessfully to find a doctor that will write the MMJ for me. I have chronic severe pain (sciatica for 19 years.) I am on pain meds and have depression/panic/anxiety problems. My PCP said he woul not write for me because he was educated on how MMJ works for peole with depression issues. I just need to find a legit Dr., not one that wants to be paid $450.00 to write the recommendation.
Can anyone help, Please?

Patient0, I'd appreciate it if you took down the information of the doctor from this forum. Not only is it incorrect it is also illegal to post his information without his consent.
Thank you
