Drug Testing/home kits

Hey Guys,

I've been reading countless posts all over the forums... I've decided on trying out the dilution method that was stickied. A little about myself, I'm an occassional smoker ~ 10 times a month usually 1-3 hits per time smoking(hawaii has potent stuff). I just graduated college with a science degree and I'm going to be getting a lab job, the interview/drug test is in 3 weeks. I had abstained for about 2 months prior to graduation. i've smoked about 10 hits all together in the last 2 weeks... i've been extremely active; running/beach/working out/taking vitamins(super b complex). I am 6'4" 180lbs, with a very low body fat % and high metabolism. I was wondering if you guys think that the dilution method would be good enough with high activity levels for the next 2 weeks with abstaining... I really don't want to do the substitution method unless necessary... I also was wondering what is a good cheap home testing kit to get off of ebay... I was going to buy about 5 and test myself the days prior to the test normally maybe 2 or three times, then try out the dilution method once before the test and test it with the home kit and see if that works, then if my dilution method/abstaining/exercising doesn't work i'll end up getting synthetics... well any advice or replies will be greatly appreciated.

Yeah I buy the thc strips off ebay for about $1.25 each.
If you've got 2 weeks I would eat a high fiber diet with metamucil till about 3 days before the UA and then load up on fatty meats the folowing 3 days.
You'll probably be a good candidate for the dillution sticky. Don't load up on fluids prior to the UA.
I would still check into subbing though just incase you don't get clean. Always good to have a backup plan.

I'm kind of in the same situation: getting pre-emp drug tested for a lab job. I think today is day 10 of being clean, and I'm not a heavy user by any means (maybe 2 or 3x a month, if that). I've tested clean twice with those home testing kits you can get at walgreens, but I'm paranoid as hell about its accuracy as I keep reading posts about people who've come up clean on home tests and failed real tests.

I have considered subbing but I don't know how I'd keep it at the right temp, and I'm afraid of getting caught, so I'm down to diluting when it comes time. I have read the dilution sticky but wanted to know if the same guidelines would be applicable to women. I am 5'3, about 105 lbs ("skinny fat", I guess you could say) with probably average metabolism.

When I first heard that I would be tested (having smoked like 3 days prior), I freaked out and went and bought that 7-day detox kit. Long story short, I didn't even get past day 1 because the amount of water they instruct you to drink is flatout ridiculous for a person of my size.

As of today I am 10 days clean, and I am stalling until Friday afternoon (hoping that the lab will be closed so I have until Monday). Any pointers on what I should be eating and doing for these last few days? I have decided against exercising because I don't think one or two days of exercise is going to make much difference).

I am going to eat some red meat in the next few days to up my creatinine levels and am going to drink a lot of water prior to the test (is 2 to 4 hours sufficient?) and will try to find some B12 (or is it B2?) supplements. Is aspirin absolutely necessary? Should women be drinking and taking the same amount of water/aspirin/vitamins as suggested in the dilution sticky?

Hey surfermang, I wanted to ask (since you're the only person I've found in the same situation):

Do you know if testing for lab jobs is more stringent than other pre-emp tests? I have read a lot of threads and many say that testing entails a 50ng/ml immunoassay, then a GC/MS 15ng/ml confirmation if the first screen comes up non-neg. Then I read other posts with people saying that they failed because the test had a 15 or 20 ng/ml cutoff. I am going crazy with uncertainty.

Any insight?


EDIT: specifically, I read someone say that their results showed 43 ng/ml and they failed. I figure - if the initial test was 50 ng/ml, how on earth could they have failed with 43 ng/ml?

It depends on your employer... The lab jobs i'm applying for will do the 15ng cutoff(lame). I'm not sure how it is where you are from, but in Hawaii I'd say about 75% of the population are occassional smokers. They come down pretty hard with job drug testing. I think that they do a 15ng EMIT(more expensive/more accurate version), this isn't as bad as MS though, I have had a lot of experience with mass spec and I strongly believe that MS detects much lower than 15ng/ml, why would they run this expensive test to only detect the sample at 15ng/ml, I'm fairly sure that it can detect less than 10ng/ml. Well I'm semi-worried because it is a diagnostic laboratory and if they do a MS off the start I'm screwed(praying for an EMIT). Thanks for the input guys. Anything else any of you recommend? I know that if I get caught subbing it will hurt me a lot more than if I get a dilute negative and I'm almost 100% sure that the unrine analysis is supervised(stand behind you and stare at you creepily). So idk about subbing... I think I'm going to try to stay really active up until 3 days before then eat tons of red meats til the test and then diulte w/ the stickied method but substitute water with gatorade/powerade.

P.S. I have used the dilution stickied method once before and it worked. It was after smoking 1/2 ounce with my buddy in 1 weeks time, then the drug test was 9 days after that... I was really nervous but the dilution worked, it was a 5 panel EMIT and the supervisor for the urine analysis said that it was okay darkness/warmth. I B.S.'d her and said that I was holding my urine in all morning and wanted to take the test because I really had to pee(but it was really i was so waterlogged and diluted as a motha). Well I do approve of this stickied method and it has worked for me, but that was for a summer job where I suspect the company used one of the very cheap 5 panel tests.

Labs/fortune 500 companies communicate with eachother and if you get caught with a positive in one, all the others know... so you are screwed if you fail... it's a scary thing for your entire future to be hanging in the balance over something so harmless as recreational marijuana smoking... legalize it.

That is flippin crazy and now I am scared as fck. What kind of lab job are you applying for? Mine is with a research institute associated with a major university... so, I am expecting the very worst. Not sure if it matters but I'm in FL.. duno what the standards are over here. I imagine it'll take longer than two weeks to get my metabolite levels below 15 ng/ml.

A friend of mine was offered a pharmacy internship, contingent upon a clean drug test, so she abstained for 50 days and came up positive (85 ng/ml) even though her home test indicated clean.

Is there not some privacy clause that prevents information about your drug tests from being distributed? It seems so anti-HIPAA. I don't know. Maybe since they're paying for you to take the test you have zero say in anything.

Please, someone offer some more (hopefully uplifting) information......

substitutions aren't very difficult if you follow the instructions on the sticky for doing a substituion... quick fix is a good one.

How do you use it effectively under a supervised UA? I'm not going to tell them I can't pee in front of people, I just want to be able to use the Quick Fix without looking suspicious, they stand outside the bathroom stall and listen. So any advice?

lol, after i read your thing about the possibility of ruining my entire future over a tainted (however dilute) pee and how labs/fortune 500 companies can communicate that kind of info (which btw, i'm still not sure about; just seems unethical; anyone have any hard evidence on this practice?), i started looking into subbing.

i've read mostly good things about QF, though the temperature thing still seems like an iffy issue... they just say to practice.

PS - does anyone know: is QF really 100% passable as real urine? i keep reading that it cannot be detected by conventional testing methods but as i've never seen/smelled QF.. just wondering if it's truly passable.

yes my brother-in-law applied for a position as an IT for the fortune 500, they did a hair folice test... he has dreads... needless to say he failed horribly and they called him and said they are releasing his data to the rest of the fortune 500. this is what he said, i'm sure it's unethical and i'm sorry to scare you. I read that quickfix doesn't smell like real urine, but it does work pass all tests(buy the quick fix 5.7-its the most updated version). the 5.7 may smell like urine now, but i've read that the 4.0 didn't smell like urine but still worked to pass the tests... i just put in an order for 2 quick fix(in case of multiple interviews for jobs)... i'm trusting this more than my dilution... because if you sub the first time and you get the temp right there is no suspicion, if you dilute first time get back a dilute negative then sub... it may be tested more thoroughly... so i'm just gonna go with sub from the start. =) amazon has the 5.7 version of quick fix for 25 w/ free shipping.

p.s. at a university if you fail a drug test they tell all the associate loan companies and you can never recieve financial aid or loans... so it seems a bit more risky for a university employee to do this if you ever plan on going to more schooling... and idk about how universities deal with employee positive drug test results... i really think you should try out QF 5.7, well I will try it out when i get it and practice a bit... i'll tell you hwo hard it is to get set up/at the right temp. =)

The QF 5.7 has no odor as with all QF formulas. But this is not of any concern to the labs because a lack of odor can be exhibited in human urine as well.

However, red flags are raised when a collector happens to catch whiff of any obvious foreign odor thats not supposed to be present in human urine (ie; bleach, household chemicals, etc.).


The QF 5.7 will pass any U/A as long as its been stored properly (no exposure to direct sunlight) and that is submitted at the proper temp of 90-100F.

well i'm definately gonna use QF, how do you guys attach it to the inside of your leg... i don't want to rubberband and cut off circulationa nd get a blood clot and die... so... hahaha.

and do you think i should still do the dilution just in case i can't keep the QF at the proper temp at the UA.

Toast, is there a big difference between QF 4.0 and 5.7? I've been reading a lot about 4.0 but I guess those are kind of old posts (2007?). I figured I would just go to a store to get whichever QF they have on hand but I wanted to know if I needed to get the newest version overnighted to me instead.

QF 4.2 and 5.7 are the most current formulas. The QF 4.0 is still useable - as long as the batch number (printed on the instructions sheet) does not end in 03 thru 05. Many of these batches are still in circulation, so to avoid any hassles, make sure you choose a vendor that carries the latest formulas.

Hey, I just want to thank you guys for all the help and support. I'll be handing in my application this monday and then my interview is a week from then and if they like me my drug test may be on that day or shortly thereafter. I bought 10 strips off of ebay to test myself, I will be exercising and taking vitamins and living a healthy clean athletic lifestyle until that date, if the two days before my test I am still peeing dirty I will use QF and dilute my urine as well just in case something goes wrong. My future hangs in the balance =P.

You're a little off there. It's usually goes 50 ng/ml cutoff on assay with 15 ng/ml on GC/MS confirmation and 20 ng/ml cutoff assay with 10 ng/ml GC/MS confirmation.

Fatrabbit, sun and practice. 20 ng/ml assay, might be used about 5 maybe 10% of the time, not very common but subbing takes care of this.

so after a week of all-consuming worry and stress, i finally bit the bullet at the end of last week and went to HR with my offer letter to do paperwork. i went prepared to pee: drank a bottle of water beforehand; didn't follow the dilution sticky mostly because (a) don't really have it in me to follow all the instructions to a T, and (b) figured if the test was 50 ng/ml cutoff i'd prob be okay with mild dilution, and if the test was lower cut-off, i was going to be fcked no matter how closely i followed the dilution sticky.

i went to HR sweating bullets but there was no mention of a drug test. i was instructed to just show up to work the next day. i opted to start today instead (monday) to give myself an extra weekend should i have to take a pee test at work instead.

today was my first day of work and long story short... NO DRUG TEST. all that worrying and no freaking drug test. i really wish the same for all of you in the same shoes.
