I'm back... with some questions

Okay, so the last time i posted i told you that i had been busted with all my herb and all my plants, well i was mistaken. i forgot about a plant that i had not yet transferred to the grow site. it has sprouted now and it's leaves will be out by tomorrow when i get up around like 1 in the PM lol. anyways i was looking for any tips for a first time grower, anything really, i just need some help getting started so i can know as much as i can about the grow process. also, if you guys need to see what your working with post or msg and i will post up some pics mind you they will be from a phone camera due to mine being stolen from me :( anyways thanks guys in advance for your future help that you will bring to me. :)

hello and welcome 'back', you need to do some research on your own bro,
if you do you'll earn some respect and you'll ask better questions.

you'll also learn shit you didn't even know you needed to know and you'll learn
much, much faster.

anyway, start here and read all the Sticky's first, these are threads that were
made into Sticky's because they are excellent examples for that particular topic.

after you finish the Sticky's, scroll down and look for thread titles that look interesting
and read them, hell, read the threads linked in my sig and you will learn a thing
or two.

then come back and we can begin. and take those pics, hopefully they will be
good enough for us to see enough to help you out.

i know that there is a fair amount of study and i know it's a pain in the ass!

alright well the main question i have been wondering is about the type of nutes i should be giving my plants to prepare for a Texas summer? they are going to go though hellish conditions temperature-wise (up to the 100's) and i need to know what type of watering products will keep them well hydrated so that they don't wilt and die! that would give Z's a sad face lol. also, something i've thought about since reading someones LONG ASS post for 2hrs yesterday is that you can stunt your plants growth for several reasons mine being to keep it secluded. how would i go about doing this? if i just kept it from getting taller by cutting off the tops there wouldn't be much of a cola left... i'm not sure i am on to something or if i am even making sense.. sorry about that lol. anyways please respond ANYONE if you have any info, i'm sure as a regular grower most of you guys (and girls) that read my thread will know the answers to my noob questions easily :D and if you don't then hey thats okay anyways thanks for taking a look anyone thats reading this and a big THANK YOU to anyone that can help :thumbsup:

I've learned from outside experience that it's good to have a spot that's sunny for most of the day, but with spots of shade here and there. My home is right in front of some woods, so I planted mine in my backyard and it got sun all throughout the day until around 4 where the sun would shine slightly through the trees giving the plant light still, but not intense enough to do any damage. They seemed to love it in my winter time firepit. :jointsmile: Plus I watered EVERY day!

You could keep the plants from getting tall by LSTing them. If you don't know what that is, look it up on google.

Also, topping it will promote bottom growth. So if you chop a top then the branches underneath that topped chop will become your colas.

once again, it's not about giving you the answers. sure most people that read your thread do know the answers.

watering is one of the essential elements of a successful grow. if you can't find an answer about watering plants outside on your own you have done NOTHING to help yourself. there are books, videos, posts galore about that topic. hell, you can find that on a marijuana special on cnn or msnbc!

most of the experienced growers on this site feel the same way. if you make no attempt at learning anything on your own or asking intelligent, to the point questions they we just gonna read your post and keep right on going.

no one's trying to be a dick, but we don't have the time nor the patience to spoon feed every noob that joins these boards because they think they can grow the bomb diggity.

italiano was nice enough to get you started in the right direction, how nice of him.

believe it or not, everyone does want you to succeed. we want you to grow and learn and pass on your experience, tips and tricks. but if we were gonna just give the answers out we mine as well grow the plants and give them too you.

yes, that's understandable, i have been kinda whiney, not even kinda, but anyways i'll only post when i see a question worthy. but i am confused on the topping, no i do know how to do it and all, but, when do i do it, in the video i watched it said a week into flowering, i read on another post 2 weeks, i read on another one a month before flowering, etc. so which is it that worked best for you guys? i hope this is a question worthy, because even though i have done the research on it as hard as i could, i still haven't gotten a straight forward answer.

I do it ALL before flowering as I'm scared I may hermie my ladie! You don't want ANY type of stress on your plant during flowering! IMO

i have read that hermies have a slight possibility that they became hermies due to stress from topping them, but it also stated that the only way that it could cause this much stress from a simple topping is that the plant has such shitty genetics it's a wonder that it grew in the first place. so i doubt mine will become a hermie, that's a relief, unless my plant is a straight up male :( that would not be a nice thing to come home to as i'm sure that has happened to some of you when you were starting. the next question i pose seeing as i have so many (hopefully good ones) is when is the absolute SOONEST i can see the sex of my plant? i want to know as soon as possible the very first article i read said during flowering the very next one said 4th week of veg. i wish there was just a definate time period for all these things... i think it determines on the location? this summer while the babies are growing it's gonna be hot as hell in Texas, so would it be during early flowering for high temps or in the veg cycle? any clue? i hope i'm not annoying the shit out of some of you by being so retarded but you have to understand, there was a time when you didn't know bud existed and look how much you know now. i am getting there slowly but surely :jointsmile: but at the end of the day we're all the same, all just trying to get it legalized completely everywhere so that everyone can enjoy mother nature. :hippy:

a plant can hermie from many different things. some of these things are stress related such as light, food, pH etc etc. a lot of those factors vary strain by strain. also, a plant can have bad genetics. once a plant is a hermie and throws seeds, those seeds have a high percentege of also being hermies.

i just did a google search and came up with the attached images. don't get caught up in the time line people use as opposed to the physical indications that you will get. everything you need to do will have some physical indication from sexing to harvesting to watering to pH problems.

the time frames used for seed banks are an average guideline, not the de facto standard. there are many different things that can skew this time line, ergo the physical indications are what we seek.

no one has a problem giving help, as long as the person asking for it has made an HONEST effort to solve their own problem first. not too many people learn well from others experiences whether it be from hard-headness or what have you. don't believe me then go read some of the LED threads. people argue that the cheap knockoffs work as good as a quality product when there are people with EXPERIENCE that KNOW better. so why ask if you are not gonna heed their advice. that's what forums are, learning stuff through others experiences.

like weezard says, "we are not trying to reinvent the wheel". we should be trying to build on others experiences so we move forward at a faster, more efficient pace.

wow bro, thank you so much, i wouldn't have believed anyone would go through the process of researching a question thoroughly enough to even include an example by pictures found on the web. you have been so kind as to help so far, hopefully your kindness will payoff in my crops :thumbsup: by having the ladies about. :jointsmile: i will be sure to help anyone the best i can when i gain some experience from the first grow, an example set by you. thanks to everyone that helps answer questions, pics to come soon, only have one of the first one that sprouted right when it sprouted that i took with my piece of shit phone, then sent to my email. i was so excited to actually see something growing i had to take a picture with whatever i had, and seeing as i don't have a camera currently i had to use something, which also means i can't update yet, can't honestly say they're much bigger, few inches, but coming along, one of the 4 straight up kicked the bucket today, i came outside and it was just dead like dead dead, yellow and the such all the others are getting their leaves and such but this one was a runt anyways so i'm not too worried, should i be?. in the pic you will see i put in a germinated seed that i made with the paper towel in cup in dark room trick, (worked great all the seeds grew the white tails), in half a water bottle, cut it in half, used the bottom part and cut holes in the bottom, i read an article on rollitup about a guy who started his that way and i decided to do the same. so you will see that type of setup with a puny sproutling in it, awaiting to get bigger! :D as you will see when i get a real camera. i promoise when i get the camera i'll take a million and one pictures to make up for it! sorry for the terribly long post i hope you guys have read this far. :) Thanks always,

This is where it begins. and this is just when they sprouted, i was too overjoyed when i saw something actually coming from the dirt that i had to take a picture with my shit phone as i explained earlier. most of you are laughing at it but i don't care because i'm ecstatic everytime i see that pic because i know thats where it all begins!!!:D:D:D

you're welcome indica! i'm gonna hold you to the helping of others. that is what the boards are built on, like i said.

on another note, what kind of soil is that that you are using? you also want to keep your soil to within an inch or so of the top of your pot. if you don't air can stagnate there and cause you stems to wilt and kill your (hopeful) ladies.

have they been out in the sun the whole time or have they had artificial lighting as well?

also another thing id like to add to what shake said.. also make sure you keep those clear bottles covered (with tin foil or something dark to stop the light) so no light penetrates to the soil and roots. The light can promote bad bacteria which can cause mold and/or root rot. so just a heads up. Head btw is the man! *hands the vape to head then to indica*

thanks for the advice on blocking sunlight camo, appreciate it and tomorrow when i come home will have to adjust it so that it blocks light as you said, (can't do tonight, rain) and head the soil i'm using is from miracle grow. i don't know what type other than that i just heard that miracle grow was good from a couple forums and as of late i've heard from more than 1 person that they did not have good results with it. i also plan to try some natural nutrients along with the 20 20 20 nutes i plan to get. some of the natural nutes i have heard of are quite odd, such as dead fish being number 1, crushed eggshells at no. 2 and this one isn't odd at all but, banana peels which i have used to grow things in my science class back in my sophomore year in highschool. and another at home nutrient i heard was good, but during flowering, was molasses. 1 Tbs. per gallon right? what the fuck! my lights just went out! i'm on a labtop so i can finish but i gotta do something about this in a second. anyways, hit me back up and tell me anything you know about my plans. flaws especially, constructive criticism is the best way to learn in my opinion. i always have long ass posts i've noticed :D sorry about that. lol. a special thanks to everyone that has replied to my thread and thank you if you were one of the over 100 people that has visited my thread, hopefully you can learn from me or more likely my mistakes :jointsmile: gotta make mistakes to make progress. i'm saving up some money from each paycheck to get a camera but as you guys prolly know, working at subway isn't exactly living the rich life. lol. so hope to have that camera soon, and everyone say a prayer for my babies that are in this rain, (it's starting to get harder and is scaring me, didn't think it'd rain this hard!:( )

good call on the light camo! also, you soil looks a little too wet. you want to keep it moist, not wet.

as far as the miracle grow soil, i have used it fine for what's going on my third harvest now. is it the best for cannabis? no. will it work just fine? yes.

be careful trying all of those home made nutes. especially if you are gonna be using something else. too much of a nute is as bad if not worse as none of a nute!

i know the crushed egg shells give nitrogen. not sure about fish or the banana.

how many plants do you have?

FML... i come home.... my plants.... they're gone... someone shoot me. looks like i can't attempt my first grow until another fucking year. i hate my life, i always get shit luck like this. first one of them just up and dies for reasons unknown probably shitty genetics.... but then all the ones that are working fucking get stolen, this is why outdoor growing is fucking hard. i come home with some 20 20 20 nutes that cost me money i will never get back. i thought the rain would be the worst thing that could happen to them, but again god proves me wrong by fucking me in the asshole yet again... like i said, FML. :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: :mad: it's too late to start another grow, if only i had an indoor setup. i might start one inside my attic or something, but not right now i'm too pissed. gotta get more fucking seeds too, but atleast i get those free from my brother, but what a waste, honestly. i'm sure this has happened to all of you and you didn't take it this badly but, i am manic depressive and i am hitting one of my lows due to this fucked up news. anyways, i hope i'm the only one from the forums that gets jacked this year. you guys don't have to reply, idc right now. but if you guys have something you think will help please post, i'm so angry i just wanna punch something.... or someone, preferably the fucking prick who jacked my shit because he couldn't grow his own. i feel like a failure at growing. i couldn't even seclude my plants even in a forest like field acres big, with several snakes and the like in it. oh well. fuck it i'll just have to try harder next year. thanks everyone who helped for the short period of time i had my babies. too bad your help was in vain. anyways,

Dude, your plants werent stolen, they were taken. why would someone take a 1 inch weed growing in a glass cup? There still is time to have another go at it. This time figure out what you are going to do before you put the seeds in to germinate. This flying by the seat of your pants stuff is not gonna get you very far. DO NOT be discouraged though. Every grower suffers set backs whether it is their first or 20th run. Just get your shiz together and go from there. it will be ok!

you can plant seeds and have good yields all the way up to july, dont get discouraged

alright, well i guess shit happens as my brother would say. and i wasn't aware that you could still give it another grow this late into the game so i will think it out for a couple days and get everything set up before i give it another go. shitty things happen i can't let it get me down, i'm pretty hard on myself sometimes, but thats not what these forums are about. i will definately have to try, try again. Eisenhower wasn't promoted 4 until his 4th attempt, i guess i'll have to be more cautious and look out for myself. thanks guys.
