camoxnhx, I'm looking forward to seeing you around again, my friend. I wish you much luck with this grow, as it seems you had some issues with your last? Regardless, I know you will have much success with this grow, and I'm looking forward to the White Rhino! What are the other genetics that you're growing?
Be good out there!
thanks man much apprecatied. Yes during my last grow some stuff went wrong and my mazar got some bud rot on it but the stuff that didnt it was some head turning smoke. The Genetics i got was Aroura Indica, Super Silver Haze, and my Mazar x Afgaini so i plan on doing the A.I. and W.R. atm, but will do a different grow for my S.S.H. :) I was just thinking that if my W.R. is male im gonna collect some pollen to pollnate a clone of my A.I when/if its female. So heres my setup.
SOIL= mircal Grow African Violet
Light= 6 26 Watt CFL (12/12 sexing W.R.) (will have on 18/6)
Grow Enviorment= Card Board Box
Demensions= 17 5/8 inches long x 26 1/2 inches tall x 13 inches wide
Age= W.R. is 3 weeks 2 days. Aroura Indica i started germanting on 4/20/2009
Ventilation= 2 Fans (one for exaust and air movingment inside). 1 passive intake
Also is there any other nutreints that are a plus to add to this. i also have mircal grow liquid plant food for the veg state (just for now) and how much of that should i add when i apply nutrients to the W.R. i plan on keeping my A.I. completely orgainic.
So my A.I. cracked outta it's shell so I just planted my seed so now the project starts! Woo!
so i realized that i have some foliage burn on my W.R. from when i appled the calcium to it so whats the best method for foilage feeding?
camoxnhx, sorry I can't help you with your questions. I have never fed my plants through their leaves - surely there is something on this board about the subject; you may just want to do a quick search. I would imagine any nutes would have to be highly diluted. Also, as for your MG nute question, best way is to check the instructions, then back them off by at least 1/2, if not down to 1/4 strength. You may dial them up from there, but just start off very cautiously would be my suggestion.
As with any advice I give, please take it with a grain of salt. I'm only on my 3rd grow, and I still have worlds to learn. As with most other things in my life, I learn things the hard way - through trial and error.
Best of luck to you, my friend. Your White Rhino looks good, as does your setup. I'm looking forward to seeing that AI grow. Pretty soon, I'll share some pics of all of my babies - have to start a new log here. I'm just waiting on my Lemon Skunk, Northern Lights, and Sour Cream to pop, then I'll share some pics of my others that are about 24 days veg (Old School, Colombian Red Haze, PPP, and Bubblelicious).
Keep on keepin' on!
foiler feeding is not recommended. i've read that a couple of places on here. plants are looking good.
So I'm sexing my W.R and it's been a week for 12/12 and no sign yet, but I was wondering if I should apply some of my Neptune orgainic 2-4-1 or should I give it a small amount of Schultz Orchid Food 19-31-17 to help with the sexing? also what is the point of adding mollasses and Epsom salt?
Also when would be the best time to start LST on my W.R?
So my A.I. popped out of the soil today so I'm a bit excited. I also started to germinate a Super Sliver Haze because I want some fine medication. With the W.R. Still no shin of sex.
So my white rhino was male. So now it's onto my A.I.
so its day 5 out of the soil of my Aurora Indica life. So i also modified my box a bit more. I extended my intake by 7 inches to help increase airflow being brought into my box. I also added another out-take fan just incase one dies and to help move air into and out of my box; i also made a new vent system to help the noise and light reducion. Now one thing that completely boggles my mind is my new set of leaves is turning purple (is this becasue of genetics). I also added a pic of the Shultz Orchid Bloom. well heres some pics on my update!
And of my A.I.
What kind of soil are you using for your seedlings?
I just picked up some compost from my local garden greenhouse store and I also added some the little bit of mircal grow African violet (about a 1/4 cup). The temps are at a steady 76F. I haven't applyed nutrients yet. But when I do it will be the Neptunes Fish Fert I have. My ph is a 6.0. Hope that helps.Quote:

And isn't the African Violet a fert?
Now I have the soil type not the fert. My cup is slightly warm but doesn't seem to be hot. Now I know compsot is a additive but it's not a lot in the cup. When I transplant I'm going to get some orgainic soil.
Yeah good idea. Seedlings only need a seedling starter soil and water. Remember to get perlite also, even if the soil already has it, it could probably use a little more.
When I say "hot", I meant too much nutrients, not the temps. When the soil is too hot, the leaves will start to burn from the tips.
They do make African Violet soil mix as well, i've seen this one uhm... i think at Home Depot in Canada:
Modugno-Hortibec
it actually looks like it might be a pretty good mix... but like you said, could probably still use some more perlite in it... but it does say it has a high humus content which is nice for keeping the Ph buffered.
I'm using that company's (Hortibec) soil right now... i used their seedling starter mix which does contain compost, but i am using the vegetabl garden & herb mix as my main soil, but i added perlite and vermiculite to it. I probably woulda gone for that African Violet stuff, but if i recall, it was only available in really small packages when i was shopping around.
is interesting about growing in more or less compost alone though... i would of thought that would of been really hot like you mentioned as well... but perhaps with the little bit of MG african violet soil that toned it down a bit
That is the same except mines from Mircal Grow. Now I just took a peek and it's for sure purple. Doesn't look sick or unhealty as A.I. Does have purple in it. So I'm just guessing it's the genitics. Thanks for the input guys!
So heres another pic update after 3 days about posting about the purple in the plant. the purple is showing quite nice! Also i have been doing a 18/6 light regiment for both upper and lower growth.
So I have a question. When LST (Low Stress Training) should be started before or after the sex is determined? Just a thought I had becasue I want a decent size canopy.
Well, I lst'd before sex. And the one plant that I didn't lst showed hairs first.
honestly, I should have switched to 12/12, culled males, and LST the females, go back into 18/6 for two or three more weeks. depending on how many females I end up with, and maybe even could have used a screen.
you'll get it dialed in eventually.
besafe:jointsmile:
Thanks much man! Yea I was thinking about throwing a screen in there but I kinda clueless on how big the screen squaress need to be. But the LST sounds better everyday. So I'm hoping female then I can just take clones from the Her and hopefully I want to start some pure breeding and cross breeding. I also have super sliver haze and some free mazar x afgaini breed so I have some good genetics. But that's later on LOL.
So Its Day 11 of my A.I. Life and i have started LST. i took some pics of my beggining stages of LST. so a question i have is from here how do i still try to maintain a even canopy when the growth turns upwards like in my pics... so i have to wait for more internodes or the best method? ANY ADVICE IS WELCOME!
hehe, those look really really nice. Thing is...that you are starting LST early. They are still fragile as well.
I normally wait for 5-7 nodes or so. By then the plant is quite larger and you can actually grab the main branch with your fingers to lay her over how you'd like. I'm going to post a couple pictures in series on how I LST.
Picture 1 shows 5 nodes with 6 and 7 growing out.
Picture 2 is after I have looped some twine between node 4 and 5 and tied it to a little tab I cut on the container.
Picture 3 shows 5 or so tops after 2 days of training.
Picture 4 is after I looped tops 2-4 and tied to more tabs.
Picture 5 shows everything adjusting to the light and you rinse and repeat for more tops and a damn great looking canopy.
besafe:jointsmile:
So I am gonna undo the paper clip and wait till the 5th node. Thanks for the pics and the info. Now from LST does it up the odds of males? Either way you the man. I will update in a day of 2. A.I is having vigours growth:)
Damned laggy double post.
honestly.... from this go round. I popped 6 beans. All 3 of which were LST'd were male. =P But I topped/clipped and bonsai'd another so much from a sprout that all it's leaves are frosty from defensive stress and it showed female yesterday. I let another go normally until she had little pre buds then I LST'd her. and the 6th one was stunted so I mutilated it for a re-veg experiment.
But I solely do not believe LST affects M/F ratio.
You COULD just be patient and veg them to 6 nodes or so, then go into flower, kill off the unwanted males, go back into veg, or LST your canopy according to the amount room left. =D

DAY 14
So tomorrow im gonna transplant my little seems to be showing signs of that time. when i do im going to apply my first dose of Orgainc Neptunes Harvest Fish fertilizer 2-4-1.
I also wait to lst until a week or two before I start bloom. This is also the same time I figure that the plants have vegged just about long enough for my height requirements. The LST slows the vertical stretch and promotes many budsites. Also, I wait to tie them down until the pots are dry, ready for water. Tis is when the plants are most flexible. Don't try and do a lot of major bending when the plants at 'wet'. They snap easier (just like a fresh vegetable or a dried out vegetable).
Neptune fish and kelp emulsions are great stuff!
DAY 18.
So to fill you guys in. I transplanted 2 days ago and applyed my Organic Fish Fert and the A.I. is LOVING IT!! i got a little soil on the bottoms of the leaves so its not bugs just a fyi :stoned: I also germinated a Mazar x Afghani and that is 4 days old. I plant on begining my LST at the 6th internode. So here are the pics :)
and the rest  (look at the pretty hues of pink and purple:D)
Your ladies can't hide the fact they are indica, can they? Those are some sweet fat leaves, and they have gotten in touch with their bushy side! Sounds like you've gotten some really good advice on LST'ing - I can't add anything to it, except that it is AWESOME! I've LST'ed every plant I've grown to this point - we're only talking 4 to harvest, but each one has loved it as much as I did.
Looks like everything is rockin' along for you, camo! I'm lookin' forward to your Mazar x Afghani; she sounds like a heckuva cross! I've been meanin' to get some really good indicas - for now, my NL will have to suffice.
Continued good grow for you, my friend!
So heres a fun factiod the genetics of AURORA INDICA is AFGAINI x NORTHERN LIGHTS #5 :)
So i just took a peek inside my box to water my MAZAR x AFGHANI and i noticed a little black fly (to whom i killed). Well so i just sat and stared to see if i saw more and i didnt. Now i have dealt with these little bastards before and they suck i must say. So i am going to keep my eye on it.
NOW MY QUESTION IS: if it does become a problem (want to eleminate ASAP) whats the best way to kill/or get rid of those little buggers if more do develope?
thanks for the time and the knowledge.
So i have started my LST method that im using from BeFree (thanks). Yesterday I tied down right below my 6th internode were the 7th internode is coming out so now the PROJECT STARTS (MAUH HAHAHAHA). The lower braches are starting to reach for the lights. I have also taken a picture of my MAZAR x AFGAINI seedling and its been growth on the constant. The last pic shows were i tied it down for a closer look.
high man, good to meetcha and it's always nice to see another new grower
wanting to take control.
anyway, considering how much effort and time you've already spent, i'd suggest
you find a local furniture moving company, U-Haul or the like, and get yourself a
box like this, it'll probably cost you $10.00 or $15.00 bucks.
growing in a cardboard box is a potential fire hazard so care must be taken to
insure your safety, with a box like this you will have as sturdy a 'cabinet' as you
can get without going to the expense and effort to construct a more permanent
solution.
keep in mind also that something like pics 3 and 4 can be found at a local thrift
store near you, i got this one at a Salvation Army for $50.00.
it stands 60 inchs tall, is 33 inchs wide and 18 inchs deep and holds 11 rows of
5x 1liter 'pots' for my SOG so perfect for me!
Bozo thanks man! so how big is the card board box that you got from U-Hall? Thats a box that im for sure going to invest in. Now i love my box i have now but im still gonna use it as a cloning and seedling room with a little less light. I also wanted to let you know that your cardboard box is a beauty :) Now as for the cabinet i am eventully going to get a real perminate cabinet and i will take your advice and go to my local S.V.A and pick one up. Now i also like Indica Dom (size & high CBN level) plants due to my Sleep Apathy and also for my wifes mom whom deals with great amounts of pain so now were it stands investing in a bigger box is in my near future (for my SUPER SLIVE HAZE beans F Yea!). But thanks you the man!
