First grow, some pics, etc.
After lurking for a while and reading, reading, reading I've decided to post some pics of my first grow and current set-up. Right now I've got three plants in the closet and two others on a window sill just staying alive until I figure out what I've got in the closet. The seeds came from a friend of mine that does small scale commercial grows, not sure exactly what they are, clearly a couple of different phenos. The two plants that seem more Indica dom started at the same time but one germed in one of those peat moss pucks, the other in soil, the one that started in soil has grown faster from the start, presumably b/c it had less resistance developing roots. The more Sativa dom started a couple of weeks later directly in soil. The soil I'm using is the Miracle Gro organic stuff. I've been using some cheap Home Depot fert. I haven't been checking Ph b/c I'm mostly just experimenting this time around and don't have the testing strips. The hard water from my tap seemed to be causing problems early on so I've since switched to distilled water. I've been experimenting with foliar feeding a bit. I feel like they've been growing a bit on the slow side. About 2 1/2 months in veg for the older two plants, started on 24h then switched to 18/6 about a month into veg. Fimmed (tried anyway) the two older plants about a month ago. Tomorrow they will have been on 12/12 for two weeks... still not sure on sex. I didn't really take any pictures until a couple of weeks ago.

This is the closet set up at the moment. Twin bulb t12 fluro fixture augmented by 23w CFL floods on the two bushier plants to get light under the canopy. Fan from an old humidifier blowing up from below. Will probably pick up one of those 150w Sun System HPS units before too long.

hit the reply button, then click go advanced. use the drop down arrow next to the paper clip. you can add five pics this way. it's a lot easier and more convenient (especially for your readers!).
as far as editing, i think you only have 10 minutes after you post to edit.

This is the plant that seems to have a bit more Sativa character than the others. A bit of nute burn on a couple of the bottom leaves, but looking really pretty since then. Hasn't been topped or fimmed.

This is the more Indica pheno that started in the peat moss. It's looking a bit wilty here, but has perked up with a good watering. A couple of burnt tips from touching the CFL floods, but notice the nine fingered leaves.

This is the taller of the two more Indica phenos. The middle finger of most of the bigger fan leaves is deformed and curled under... not sure why. It seems healthy other than that.

The tallest is a bit over 12" the shortest a bit over 8". I probably would have vegged them more but I didn't want to waste much more time if they all turned out to be boys.

The smallest pretty of the plants has very clearly developed pistils overnight. I know that normally the size can be an indicator, but in this case the she was started two weeks later than the others. I'm feeling reasonably sure that short of the other two is a boy, but I'm still not sure about the taller one. I'll post pics later.
While I'm still not sure where what I have with these the one confirmed female, seems like she might be worth cloning because she's just so pretty. I know it's generally considered easier to clone plants from veg but is it worth a try from flower?

Wow, that was really embarrassing to read, I was in a hurry to get to work, but ouch... holy typos.
-
First grow, some pics, etc.
A few weeks now into flower and the two smaller prettier ones are girls... funny how that seems to work out. The bushier more Indica type that I fimmed seems to be putting up four top colas, with a couple of side ones coming up strong to meet them. Pictures forthcoming.

Looks great so far.
I think that leaf problem is from heat stress. I have had that happen when leaves have touched the florescent bulb, (they do get warm near the ends) no worry though, They looked to recover well from it.
Yes you can clone after going to flower it just takes a little longer, also do not be alarmed if you get some really funky looking leaves after the clones root and start growing. After a couple of weeks they begin to look normal again, It is from the stress of going from flowering cycle back to veg.

Really pretty plants all. I'd agree with JG on the burned leaves - I have no experience growing inside, but awhile back I sprayed my plants with too highly concentrated Neem Oil, and my leaves look much like your burned leaves; therefore, I'd say the burn is either from the lights touching the leaves or your foliar feeding of too highly concentrated nutes for the leaves to absorb (I've read some of foliar feeding being tricky).
I saw your other post with questions on the pretty impressive list of strains - I didn't read it as I only have a few minutes online, but hopefully you have some packets of each and will treat us all to a log featuring them - looking forward to it, as well as a continuation of this great log. Continued good luck, warf!

Thanks for the kind words all. It's about 10-12 days on from those first pics. The plant with the funky leaves has been dispatched because it was a boy. As you can see from the new pics I did pic up a 150w HPS last weekend, the girls have been under that since Sunday. I've given one weak dose of Botanicare Pure Blend Pro Bloom and they're due for another today or tomorrow.
Here's one lady. looking really good and bushy. My fimming experiment seems to have worked well here. You can see a little one in the background. That's actually the same age as this lady, but suffered some root damage when I transplanted it carelessly. It had been chilling in the window.

This is the plant that seemed to have a bit more Sat genetics, she may have gone into flower a bit on the young side, but looking good none the less... In the background you can see a wee little one, that was one of the ones that was sitting in the window, it magically popped from a seed I had given up on, thought I'd just pop it under the HPS even though it's on 12/12. Probably set the Fluoros back up somewhere and let it veg out there for a while in a couple of days.

Just a couple more pics... then off to The Dead in Chicago.
Here's another pic from the top of the plant that I fimmed, looks like eight colas, as this bushy lady reaches up towards the light:

here's a pic from the side, kind of washed out, but you can see all the stems reaching up, and get a sens of the secondary budsites starting to really take off:

Here's the top cola of the lady that I didn't top (looking a lot more purple in the pic than in real life):

and here's a pic of one of the secondary budsites:

It's really amazing how much they seem to be just taking off (noob says what?).

Here's another update 8 days on from the last. Again, these are unknown hybrids from a friend of mine. I forget exactly when I started flowering. Run 150w HPS, Botanicare Pure Blend Pro Bloom nutes.
This is the girl that I topped. Looking pretty good to me. Some of the lower leaves seem to be giving up the ghost, but from what I've read that's normal.

I'll start with the straggler...
This was one of my original three plants. I re-potted it after about 3 weeks in veg, tore up the root ball pretty good and thought it was done for. I stuck it in the window and just let it chill. It's in the background in my May 1 update and just went back under the lights within a day or two of then. At the time it was about 8-10" it's now pushing 20" and is pretty much the same height as the other untopped plant. When I started the grow this one really took off out of the gate, seems to be a really quick grower. Between the early root damage and spending a bunch of time in the window and the fast early growth I figured it might hermie from the stress, but so far it seems all female.

This is the plant that I fimmed. I don't recall exactly when it went into flower, first or second week of April I guess. It's looking like it's got a bit of a nitrogen deficiency or else a pH problem. Doesn't seem serious at the moment, I flushed it yesterday and will keep an eye on it and up the N content on the next feeding. The hairs are starting to turn brown a bit. A bit of a close up of two of the colas.

Here's the one that keeps on impressing me. The seed that this one came from took forever to sprout and it started vegging about 2 weeks after the others. It's about 20" right now. I just noticed what looks like minor nute burn in these pictures. I flushed it yesterday so it should be ok. This one seems to be just a generally agreeable plant. Of course I don't know how it smokes yet, but I'm definitely planning to re-veg and cut some clones... wish I knew what it was. I'm figuring that I'm about 2 weeks from harvest; we'll see.

are you referring to the yellowing of the leaves a bit?
looking good. i re-vegged a lady after harvest because she was a bad bitch, too! she looks like a little bonsai at the moment. can't wait to take some clones.

Yeah, the yellowing of some of the upper leaves. I'm not worried about the lower leaves. But you can see on the overhead shot that a few of the leaves are yellowing a bit and looking a bit curled. I know that Nitrogen deficiency is pretty common late in flowering and that the buds pull nutes from the leaves. I guess it seems to my unexperienced sensibility that I'm a little bit farther out from harvest for it to be normal.

oh yeah, mental note: pick up a decent magnifier and check out them trichromes
-

Upon further review I think that the fimmed one is root bound. Canoeing of the leaves, mild yellowing. Probably doesn't make sense to re-pot it this late in the game huh? Next time I'm using bigger pots.

could be a pH problem that is affecting nitrogen?
just a thought.
