Help a fellow newbie grower?
As you can probably see, I'm new to the Cannabis Forums.
I've read countless numbers of FAQ's reguarding growing my own marijuana, but I can't seem to find the exact information I want in a simple format that doesn't take hours to read. I've gotten past the germination with damp paper towels, and I've planted three plants in seperate containers. They seem to be growing pretty healthily, but I doubt I'll know til' they sprout out of the soil.
I know I'm probably gonna get the "Read the FAQ, newbie!" treatment, but I'm willing to take that risk to answer my questions:
1. I'm growing indoors, with a simple lamp to test with 1-3 plants, will it work? They're growing so far, and they seem healthy.
2. How much 'crop' will I yield from one indoor plant? (It's too cold to grow outdoors where I live right now, so that's out of the picture :(.)
3. How long will it take for my plant to be ready to harvest and how will I know?
4. What distinguishes a male seed/plant from a female seed/plant, and what outcomes will I get from either?
Thanks! Any help answering these questions is GREATLY appreciated.

read the stickies, noob!
some freebies, though, cause i'm bored at work
1. need more details about the "simple lamp" to answer that one.
2. it all depends: strain, lighting, temps, care, etc.
3. depends on strain and when you flip the lights to 12/12. somewhere between 5-6 weeks and up to 12 weeks for the flower cycle, to say nothing about the veg cycle.
4. you cannot be certain of a seed's gender unless you order feminized seeds, or make your own.
now, go find that last answer: differences in male and female cannabis plants
you may be better off absorbing everything before you germinate, but too late for that. good luck.

ahhh,
I remember the days when i got so warmly welcomed too....
But in those days, there was an excellent site for growing info and that site was called overgrow.com
That place is gone today but parts of it survived thanks to some dedicated folks.
They have compiled most of the grofaq from OG and posted it on piratebay.
You need utorrent to download these files so get it free from: µTorrent - The Lightweight and Efficient BitTorrent Client
As for the og growfaq, you'll find it here : The Pirate Bay - The world's largest BitTorrent tracker
I just finished downloading it and gonna give it a look.

Okay, I've done a good amount on reading to get at least some knowledge on growing, and my plants are doing quite healthy. Whether they're male or female is still a mystery to me, but I'm getting the growing part down.
I figured I wouldn't invest in it too much until I experiment with what I have first. I'm growing with a regular 60W standing light that hangs down perfectly over the plants in my 4x8ft. closet. The lamp provides a temperature of about 80 degrees in the closet when I leave the door closed for the day (sometimes the door stays open to provide fresh air). The plants are in quite crude containers, with small holes in the bottom to allow the excess water to drain.
There's a couple pictures attached.
If anyone else has any pointers, I'm open!

I'm familiar with bittorrent downloading, it'll take me awhile to get it. My connection isn't all that great seeing how I've got 9 seed connections out of the 43 or so available.

I don't think Dr. Pep. cans good to grow out of. And i would suggest that you go in vest a lil $30. Get you a clamp light with 200w max- $8-14 and get you some cfls." 4 pack be like $4-12 depending where you get em" Also get a Y adapter for lamp"Turns 1 bulb to 2". $2-4.

I just downloaded that guide and found it to be great. It is very well organized, and if you have a question you can find an answer very quickly... not too much to read through
And get some cfl's at least! That light you have now won't grow anything...

See, this is the kind of advice I was looking for.
Now, like I said I've got my plants in a small closet, so I don't have too much room to grow and have a bunch of equipment. I can get better containers fairly easily, and the lamps won't be too hard to come by though.
The light is pretty close to the plants, I just had to move it to get a good picture .

OK lets see what we can do to help, containers need to change and lites need to change. You can pick up both at a large lumber yard fairly cheap watch for coupons in sunday paper or when you walk in to store. They should have cfls in lighting dept, I like fluorescent myself Home depot 48'' t12 fixture with daylight bulbs around $12, black plastic pots 10'' $1 ea. Bag of good soil go ahead and get larger bag as you will use it when you transplant $4-$10.Bag of perlite $3. I would transfer my seedlings into large dixie cups now and grow out till fuller 6''-8'' then transplant to plastic pots keep under lights 18-6 schedule for 4-6 weeks or till you post photos and someone recommends flowering.Find a inexpensive fan and circulate air in closet. You should be able to find all this stuff as killer said for around $30-40. Good luck and keep us posted. peace

1, your gonna need to keep reading up on the facts and basics. 2. eventually that 60watts, will need to be replaced - if you plan on continuning this already started effort. (Lowes carries plant lights, so do many other retail stores) You'll pretty much need to transplant those new plants, into something a bit more reasonable, like a 10 or 12" pot. I'd say your total cost for an upgrade be's about: $20 bucks, just say the light is most of the price, excluding the pots which might be about a buck 50. Looks good so far.

im guessing that you are like me and want to grow some herb with the least amount of haslte and money spent. heres my tried nd tru setup
1. get a big bag of potting soil from a dep. store ($10 or more for organic)
2. 2 24 ins flourescent bulbs.(good for 2 plants $10 each) i use one called a "grow light" which puts out a blueish light an the other is a "warm" light which looks like your average flouro bulb
3. some rope and some hooks to hang them from your ceiling. do it in a way that you can adjust the height
4. i use rose feed that i found in my dads shed and some holly feed which smells like shit but is a good source of nutes. i also mix some compost and a few worms in my soil. you can feed your plants with other things just do some research.
5. use your judgement when applying nutes and watering it is easy to burn your plants
6. keep the lights on 24/7. flouros dont give off as much light or heat (relatively NO heat) as more advance systems
7. if your plants are in an open area DONT SMOKE
8. use a spreay bottle daily to keep the top failry moist but NOT soaked and dont let your leaves get to dry
9. keep an eye on your plants and youll grow sum decent weed for your personal enjoyment
