ok i am growing with 2-48inch grow lights and 2 cfls. i currently have 2 plants which by the way are about 1 week into flowering and are females. im wondering has anyone used the smae amount of light and how well was the yield. the reason im using such small amount of light is because i have limited space and not so much spending money. i would appreciate any advice.
Well where to begin.? Do you have any pics.? of your plants-your grow area. How many watts is your cfls. Which color temp lights you got.? do you have the orange spectrum.
i dnt have any pics yet... im like 30 minutes new to this site. but i will as soon as possible. oh and the grow light are the kind that you buy from walmart...they give off kind of a purple light.

2000 lumens sq. ft./21500 lumens sq. m. = Absolute minimum for growth. You won't get much from this, especially after the plant has grown a bit. Not really enough to flower well.
3000 lumens sq. ft./32250 lumens sq. m. = Pretty Good growth. Enough light for the entire light cycle, although your yields may be lower.
4000 lumens sq. ft./43000 lumens sq. m. = Very good growth. Once you pass around 3500, growth rate and ability goes up fast.
Over 5000 lumens sq. ft./53750 lumens sq. m. = Optimal growth. Dense growth in all stages.
But HPS is more efficient. A typical 250 watt HPS bulb/unit will produce about 27,000 lumens. I've seen people use a 250w in a 3' x 3' room and get good results. That's 9 sq. ft. which = 3000 lumens a sq. ft. (Really, a 250w HPS is better in a smaller area.) to give you an idea of the difference in efficiency of CFL vs. HPS, think of this.
23w CFL = 1600 lumens = 69.6 lumens/watt
30w CFL = 2000 lumens = 66.7 lumens/watt
40w CFL = 2600 lumens = 66.3 lumens/watt
compared to
150w HPS = 14000 lumens = 93.3 lumens/watt
250w HPS = 28000 lumens = 112 lumens/watt
400w HPS = 50000 lumens = 125 lumens/watt
600w HPS = 90000 lumens = 150 lumens/watt

How big is the area that you are growing in.? Is the walls flat white or mylar. Do not I repeat DO NOT USE TIN FOIL as that is no good at all. How far away are the lights from your plants.?:rastasmoke:Quote:

If i am not mistaken I think that your fluros should be alittle bit closer. I am not 100% sure since i have not used fluros or seen it done 1st hand.

That is what i thought but did not wanna give him bad info. But he trying to go back way out anyway, I told him that it is worth investing into a Hps. Or for him to go and get the right Cfl but he dont even knoe how many watts the light he got are. Posted info for him so its only up to him to use it.

I've grown with fluoro tubes, it can be done ... if your 'purple' light is like a 'Day-Glo' type, ditch it immediately ... ultraviolet light won't work at all ... the cheapest lamps to use, are at your WalMart, etc... use the 'Daylight' type for vegetation (blue wavelength) ... use the 'Kitchen and Bath' type, for flowering (red wavelength) ... keep the tubes an inch above the plant tips ... fluoros don't penetrate ... keep an oscillating fan going ... good growing ! :thumbsup: ... your yield will be small, but the experience you gain will be BIG ... I worked my way up to sixteen 48" tubes, before switching to high-pressure lamps, the difference was amazing :smokin:
I definitely agree with the post about CFL's and the fact that they should be close but I think you can grow at least the first few weeks with the purple grow lights. I have a plant that is just breaking the surface with only two purple grow lights. They say they are grow lights so I assume those are the correct ones, not the ones to ditch? Anyway in your case put the purple lights basically right on the plants because from my experience they do not get hot barely at all. Good Luck, hit us with some pictures soon:rasta:
