I need help with cooking hash brownies.
Alright, just let me know if I've got this straight:
I grind up 5 grams of hash and put it aside, i then turn on a hot plate and melt the butter, i then add the hash in carefully and i let it sit there for about 20 minutes untill it's nice and brown, I then pour it through a coffee filter or something and there's my butter. I then mix the cannabutter with the brownie mix, put it in the oven and wait untill it's done.
Did i get that right? Please correct any mistakes I've mentioned.
My only question is this: how hot should the plate be? How many degrees? please tell me in celcius.
Thanks.:rastasmoke:

First off, theres plenty of threads on this subject already, and if you google it you would get a load of information.
But i will help lol. 5g of hash? or ground weed? how many boxes of brownie mix?
melt your butter in water, let it get hot, but not hot enough to bubble or simmer as this will simmer off your thc. when i do mine, i let it sit in there for around an hour just to be sure, but this may be unnecessary. i can not stress enough that you DO NOT want it to bubble. you should watch it pretty carefully to monitor this, stirring frequently.
once an hour is up, get a container of some type that you can pour it into. you should put CHEESE CLOTH around the opening, secure it with a rubberband or string or something. coffee filters are too fine, and the butter wont go through. make sure it's cheese cloth. once you have it all poured into the container and your weed particles are filtered out (if you are using ground weed, hash i dont think would need filtering) put it in the fridge. the water and butter will separate, and the butter will harden up. don't rush it, leave it in over night or somthing. once it's all solid, run a knife around the edges of the container to get the butter out, and put that into another dish. pour the water down the sink.
now you have cannabutter! bake it into the brownies according to the recipe. make sure you get brownie mix that uses butter, not oil.

...thanks but you didn't answer me on how hot the plate is supposed to be. This is the only thing i'm unclear about, everyone says "under the boiling point", can't someone give me an exact number of degrees?

you dont have to filter hash .....only weed... melt the butter at 37 C add the hash make sure you have 1/3 cup of butter or alittle more.
The hash will melt in the butter.... add to the brownie mix inplace of the vegetable oil

4 cannabutter , not hash butter I think this is my 3rd time asking this on the forums with no answer...(see Medicated Edibles sticky thread) WHAT IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A CHEESECLOTH? I've made cannabutter with regular coffee filters and they worked ok for me, just had to squeeze everything in it a bit to force through. It seems there are better strain methods but I don't own a cheesecloth or potato ricer. I have a metal strainer, plastic strainer and white cotton tshirts. Any help appreciated.

apparently, 37 C as posted previous. sorry i couldnt give you a number, but so many things contribute to boiling points, its kind of trial and error. do you own a double boiler? because that would be best, one pot with boiling water on the stove, another pot that fits into the top of it that you put your butter in. the hot water melts the butter without boiling anything! perfect. and don't worry about the straining if youre using hash, it doesnt need to be strained. only if you have chunks of weed in it. i think you could consider steaming without boiling a good temp.

That website sucks, it doesn't explain how to strain or anything. Useless info.

After some more research, I found my answer. Not 1 cannabutter recipe mentions it on here. I thank myself lol:hippy:

Huh? You answered the original poster with good info. However you didn't tell me how to strain cannabutter without a cheesecloth. What's so hard to understand? You're not taking up my time with nonsense. It would just be nice to not be ignored.:hippy:

If i do the double boiling thing, the water in the first bowl needs to be boiling? how many degrees aproximately?

sorry guy (fourtwenty), i misunderstood. i made mine without cheesecloth once, i used a metal mesh coffee filter. the holes were big enough to let the butter through though, whereas a paper filter wouldnt work. you can get cheesecloth at most grocery stores, and i've seen many dollar stores that carry it. other than that, i've searched the internet and have not found anything that works as well as the cloth.
DannyR: a double boiler is an actual thing. you buy the two metal pots together, they fit into eachother. you won't have much luck trying to get two different pots to work, unless you can macgyver something. if you DO have a double boiler, the water in the lower pot can be as hot as you want. i don't believe it transfers enough heat to boil the top pot, it just gets it to the right temp. sorry i cant be more specific, you might have some luck googling that one.

I read a white cotton t shirt works fine, what do you think?
A paper coffee filter DOES work, I did it a few weeks ago but you really have to squeeze and force everything through. The butter came out great but a little weak.

alright, I only have one more question then, actually it's two.
1.how long do i have to keep the butter and the hash on the hot plate before I can start thinking about taking it off? I know that I'm supposed to keep it on there untill it turns brown but I would feel a lot safer if I knew aproximately how long I'm supposed to be doing that.
2.also, I'm only using 5 grams in my recipe, take that into consideration while answering question number 1. question number 2 is: what kind of butter should I use?

i usually keep mine on for an hour, just for good measure. for the butter, use whatever kind you want, just make sure its salted, unsalted tastes funny. i wouldnt use margarine either, yuck.

The amount of time you heat it is not critical, so you can get good results with both (25 min/1 hour). If you were in a hurry, heat it for only 25 minutes, and if you want to make sure it will work, heat it for 1 hour.
BTW, 5 grams of hash is a lot... dont eat all the brownies at once! Or you may get lost in another dimensions... :stoned::abduct:
