Root Mass
Ok guys, so I just began flowering of my first ever crop and yesterday culled the males outta there. The question is, is there anything at all functional or useful about the root masses? There were two boys, grown hydroponically in 6" pots meaning 216" cubic inches of root mass per plant. That just seems like a lot of material to dispose of. Any info is appreciated. Thank s guys.

root mass is directly proportional to upper canopy ... limit root size, you limit bud area, too ... leave 'em large, as long as white and healthy ... :smokin:

Uhhhh, yes. It's the same as asking yourself just how important your circulatory system is. Roots are when nutrients are uptaken so "brushing off" the importance of root care will completely undermine (or even destroy) your entire crop.

I think he wants to know if there is anything he can do with the root masses from the two males he pulled, using them for something else instead of throwing them away.

Jkal nailed it. I appreciate the rudimentary approach guys, but yes I do know that roots are important to plants...There's a picture too.
I'll rephrase:
Is there anything to do with dead/non-growing root mass?
Thanks

throw it in some soil, it can be used for more nutrients.
OR
I think you can throw it in a flood table, you will most likely need Cannazym to break it down properly or you'll get a bad case of root rot.

Sorry.....I'm a known peanuthead but sometimes I even forget myself. Not that I can think of....always tossed mine.

so if i put them in soil with cannazyme for a while, will that work to break them down into nutes?

Just soil is fine, Cannazym with soil is just overkill; but you do have quite abit of roots...use your best discretion.

me thinks dead roots invite pathogenes,no?
also decomposing organics take away N until the very end when they give it back plus, and this takes a while.
so its not really hydro anymore
but the root mass is related to the yield
ya know the old angle of the dangle story

Hmmm...I see at the bottom of the page where it says IMG code is turned off. Anyone know how to turn that on? And no one has heard an apparent medicinal something or another you can derive from the roots?

Why not try composting? A couple of weeks in a compost bin and your stuff will be unrecognizable and you'll have some nice soil additive for other gardening possibilities. I put roots, stems, left over leafage etc. in the bin and stir it up occasionally for excellent compost for outdoor plants.
Growing weed has made me a better vegetable gardener and no worries about the garbage man finding anything.
Just another option.

Nope, never once really heard people talk about using the roots for something........you can tell by the fact that we immediately guessed your question wrong.
I myself would not put dead/dying/old roots into new soil as I agree with Daddy that it is inviting pathogens and unwanted things into your soil. Dead roots acidify things btw as they go.
Composting sounds like a good one. Otherwise nada I can think of....sorry.

Beautiful Daddynobucks! Everyone look at the diameter of those trunks! Anyway, short of composting just keep them away from your live plants. They are now dead organic matter and inorder to break down they need to decompose AKA rot. The zyme products help convert the rotting matter into food, but it is NOT meant to be an additive to convert a root mass into food, it is meant to simply in the right env help a live plant redigest the normal death of a little bit of old roots.
Its like your immune system helping you fight off a cold, and serving yourself a huge helping of sickness and peppering it with a little bit of white blood cells. You gonna die brotha.

Sounds good guys, I appreciate it. I'll letcha know if I ever come across anything more unique that can be done with the roots.
