Quick question about watering (first time grow)
Ok, so i have the seeds germinated and planted in soil, but i was wondering how much do you water the soil to begin with until the leaves begin to sprout out of the soil? I've searched around for answers but didn't have much luck. If anyone could help me that would be amazing! Thanks.

Quick question about watering (first time grow)
If the soil was already watered they should be good for a few days.
-
Quick question about watering (first time grow)
As long as the soil is moist, you should be ok. Check the soil with your finger to see if its dry, wet, etc. about half inch to an inch below the surface. If its dry, water it. If its still wet, it probably doesnt need water.
Do this throughout the grow. Depending on your grow room, you may need to water twice a day, or maybe once every 3 days....

Quick question about watering (first time grow)
Thanks guys, I'm hoping to be able to grow atleast one successful plant here. Hopefully when i get my taxes back i can get more lightage up in my grow room. I'll keep an eye on the soil so it doesn't get dried out.

Quick question about watering (first time grow)
you are going to have to seperate those plants.
get 3 little solo party cups and put them in there. dont forget to cut holes for drainage though...
-
Quick question about watering (first time grow)
Alrighty, will do. What's the best way of moving the 3 plants from the one base to 3 seperate cups?
-
Quick question about watering (first time grow)
very, very tediously. take your time and slowly dig around each of the plants, with your fingers, until you get to the bottoms of the roots. but since they are so young right now they will be fragile, so take your time and be careful.
good luck bro, and ill try to help answer any questions i can but im still a noob too.

Quick question about watering (first time grow)
Alright, today i planted 2 of the 3 plants into little stirofoam (SP?) cups and they seem to be doing good for the most part. I have some pictures that i took that i'm going to post so you guys can let me know if they look healthy and alive. And oh yeah, how long does the veg. period take in the growing process? Thanks to anyone who can give me good solid advice.

Quick question about watering (first time grow)
Make sure to put a few holes in the cup, around the bottom and a few on the sides. Try to avoid over loving your plant- overwatering, over analyzing, and generally over doing everything. It should do just fine on its own, just give it good light, water and it will take care of the rest. Good luck.

Quick question about watering (first time grow)
I am at the stage you are currently at... this is my first grow and I have 2 CFL's going with 3 plants just like yourself in a very small 1.5ftx2ft box...
I'll be watching this thread very closely and will try to mimic or non mimic your results... good luck.

Thanks for the advice rambler. I poked a few holes in the bottom of each cup, but haven't poked any in the sides, so i will try that here soon. Besides that though, everything looks to be doing A-Okay!
Oh yeah, i'll def. try to avoid over loving my plant so she can just grow how nature intended :D

Hey Grinkyle, i wouldn't mind seeing a few pictures of your plants/grow box. Hopefully both of our first grows go great with good results! Good luck to you man!

Quick question about watering (first time grow)
While it's not absolutely needed for plant growth, investing in some nutrients probably would be a good idea. I completed the majority of my veg cycle without the benefit of nutes, invested in the Technaflora recipe for success starter kit, and couldn't believe how much an impact the nutes had. I wish I had been feeding them nutes the whole time, rather that just twice before throwing them into flower (I'm 4 days in at this point)
-
Quick question about watering (first time grow)
Yeah, i have been searching around on different threads and noticed that a lot of people use nutes for their plants. Where could i get some good nutes though? And how much do they typically run? Do you know if lowes has any good nutes i could pick up for a reasonable price? I would love to start feeding my plants with them.
-
Quick question about watering (first time grow)
I'll take a shot at this, though I'll warn you I'm on my first go round myself - just about a month and a half ahead of you. For nutes try to find a local hydroponics store - most major cities have at least one. If you can track one down it would be to your benefit - as the people who work there tend to be highly knowledgeable and will guide you in the right direction - just don't be so foolish as to discuss what you are growing.
If you cannot find a hyrdo store-Cannabis FAQs / FAQ , Recipes, Medical Marijuana This has just about everything you need to know. When the boards were down for about a month, this is what I used. Look up the different Teas- it's like making your own organic nutes. I didn't get around to doing it myself, but clearly there are those who swear by it.
-
Quick question about watering (first time grow)
Let me specify- look up Guano Tea. It's under Nutrients, about a quarter of the way down the page

Quick question about watering (first time grow)
Dude just go to the Fox Farm website (FoxFarm Soil & Fertilizer Company) and check out there feeding schedule. most Hydro stores have the 3pack of the grow big, tiger bloom, and big bloom, that's most of all you need for feed. there soil is also top. all I use is Fox Farm.
-
Quick question about watering (first time grow)
Hey guys thanks for the advice on some nutes that i could make or head down to the hydro store and pick some up. I'm thinking of just going down to the hydro store next time i get some cash and pick up some nutrients. Although the guano tea would be nice to make, i think it would end up taking longer to get the actual ingredients together to make it. What are some good nutes you can find at a hydro store? ie. (Name brands?)
-
Quick question about watering (first time grow)
Hey guys, i actually have decided that i'm gonna pick up the 3 pack of liquid fertilizer at my local hydro store hopefully today *Crosses fingers*
How much impact will these fertilizers have on my end yeild? Anyone who swears by these three liquid fertilizers? They look like a good deal, and not too expensive to buy. If anyone has any good feed back on these products i'm all ears. Hell, even if you have these three and don't like them i would like to know why. Thanks guys!

Quick question about watering (first time grow)
Hey, TBag.... I made a grow log over HERE
I'm like 4days behind you I'd assume... post a grow log or keep this post updated.. will tune in.
Thanks.
-
Quick question about watering (first time grow)
Hey Grin, checked out your log and it looks pretty good man. Right now my 3 plants are about a week and 3 days into growing. I still need to pick up a HPS OR MH light whenever i can, but i should have enough light to lead up to flowering atleast. I'll keep you posted on this thread and we can just keep it alive. Oh yeah Grin, where did you get those lamp shades for the 20 watt CFL's?
-
Quick question about watering (first time grow)
I've had them for over 15 years. I used them way back to keep some puppy's warm in a basement. I think I got them at a hardware store, this of course was before home depot, lowes, or walmarts were in town. I know that doesn't really help.
About getting a HPS or MH, I've been thinking the same thing, but I've seen some cfl grows produce some good buds here. I think they had like 10-12 cfls going for 2-3 plants.. plus all different types.. some are better than others.
Ya, im 4 days with my one plant and a week with my other two behind ya.
-
Quick question about watering (first time grow)
Dang, i wish i knew where i could get some of those lamp shades for cheap. I really do want to use CFL's for my grow, but i don't know if i will have enough plug-ins. Right now my light has to have 2 extension cords to reach inside my closet. Do you know of an efficient way to hang and hook up say, 3 or 4 CFL's in a closet?
-
Quick question about watering (first time grow)
Theres like double sockets, and tripple sockets at places like home depot or lowes. But you might have to wire it urself, which is easy, like match teh colors ,and green the ground or something, ask the people there. and it only used one plug in I think.
get a surge protector. they split like 6 connects from one of those ext. cords you use.
-
Quick question about watering (first time grow)
Yeah, i do have one surge protector but it's currently being used for other things in my room. Maybe i could manage to hook it up though. Anyways, i got some new pictures of my 1 plant! It's been making pretty good progress i would say. My other two baby's died :( I'm hoping atleast this one will come out fine

-
Quick question about watering (first time grow)
looking good man, what happened to your other two babies?
How close are your lights? It kinda seems stretched, but it can always been that type of strain.
-
Quick question about watering (first time grow)
BEAUTIFUL K+ im also interested on how those other ones died :(
-
Quick question about watering (first time grow)
remember, id only water once the soil on top is almost dry keep them moist and dont drown them
-
Quick question about watering (first time grow)
What are you growing? bagseed i would presume. If it's your first grow i kinda think you should grow bagseed as a trial run and then get some good strains in once you know your temps and humidity levels are good, can keep up with watering and feeding, plus you are even able to get a yield. strains may get a little expensive for seeds.
i'd grow more than one plant, because theres a 50% chance it's going to be male, and then you don't get any herb :[
good luck man hope everything goes okay

Quick question about watering (first time grow)
Hey guys thanks for the comments on my plant. It's doing pretty good. It turns out those two plants didn't die, only one died. I have the other one under a light right now and it's been growing. I'll post pictures next time of both plants i got. Tomorrow is the third week of growing for me! :rasta: I'll post new pics tomorrow for everyone to see. Till then, i'm off to go smoke a fat bowl

Quick question about watering (first time grow)
Hey guys, didn't get around to getting the pictures yesterday or the day before, so i took some today so you guys can see the progress of my plants, which they are 3 weeks and 2 days in. I currently have two plants going now. The one plant i thought died didn't, which is a big relief. Some of my leaves are turning a bit yellow, does anyone know what that means exactly? Besides that though, everything is going great!

Quick question about watering (first time grow)
Looking good TBag.
You must have a sativa strain, those are so much taller than mine. All mine are short and stout.
I would recommend filling the soil in a little bit. I've read around here that you want the soil pretty close or level with the cup, so air can circulate around.
When mine was about two and a half weeks old, I saw roots comming out of the holes in the bottom of my dixie cups. I don't know how big your cups are, but I would recommend transplanting them. When I transplanted mine, I couldn't believe how many roots there were sprialing around the bottom. They also have grow alot more since then.
Looking good man, glad you keeping it updated.
-
Quick question about watering (first time grow)
Yeah man i'm not sure about the strain, but you're probably right. They are coming along pretty good. I'll be sure to fill in the soil here, so that it's more leveled with the cup and all.
The cups seem to be doing alright for right now. I transplanted them once before and that's how i lost my 3rd plant because i screwed it up. Kinda nervous about transplanting it again until i do see roots coming out. I'll probably end up trying to transplant it next week though, so that should hopefully go good.
I'll be sure to keep it updated every week

Quick question about watering (first time grow)
Hey Tbag, those gals(hopefully) are looking very good. Im just wondering where are the diagonal node growth? It must the genetics that we have that we both produce such different looking plants.
I'm glad you repotted them. A good rule of thumb is for every foot of verticle growth = 1 gal. worth of soil.
You seeing any preflowers yet? When do you plan on switching over to 12/12? Cloning?
-
Quick question about watering (first time grow)
Thank you very much grin :rasta: I do believe that my tallest plant is indeed a gal. I can see the diagonal node growth, but my camera doesn't take very good pictures super close up because it's an old POS camera.
Should i transplant my biggest plant into a gallon container? Would that be too much soil for how big my plant currently is? I'm hoping to transplant my biggest plant into a bigger container here soon.
No pre-flowers yet.. unfortunately. Hoping to see some soon! Should i switch to 12/12 soon? This wednesday will be 6 weeks in. When is a good time to switch over?

You should do exactly what GrinKyle said, for every foot of stalk 1 gal. extra So you have a 3 foot plant you need MINIMUM 3 gal pot...Personally if you get anything 3 foot i'd have them in 5 gal. pots or buckets....Also you can switch to 12/12 whenever you have good root structure and at least 4-6 nodes<~~~why I say that is because usually a lot of times plants will show "pre-flowers" and when I see those that's usually a good indicator you can start the flowering phase....Also remember to switch from 6500K to 2700K for flowering!
