hello i have just started some silver haze strain and are using a combo of CFL's and fluorescent lights and i was wondering if this is enough lighting for them and if so how long do expect it will be optimal for them? Any help appreciated!
Growing in a 4x2 closet
2 Fluorescent Grow lights 24"
Wattage: 17 watts
Incandescent Equiv.: 75 watts
Light Output: 1,093 lumens
2 CFL's
Wattage: 23 Watts
Incadescent Equiv: 100 watts
Light Output: 1,600 lumens (6000K)

i would get a 400 or 600 hps insteadof all that other u have goin on. but thats just my opinion :)
Yes thats a good amount you might want to upgrade to just like 2-3 big ones but i know how money can be a problem i ghetto rid so much stuff to grow what i have but for now i think that should do when they get biger if your going to have more then 3-4 it can be a problem for each plant in a basic way should be geting 200-300 wats each once they get biger
Oh ! and alsow now that i look you dont seem to have any good intake/outake you need fresh air for your plants and to keep all that cool
well the room only runs at 72F-78F at the most.....I haven't had any venting problems yet, but i figure when they get bigger I am going to get a combo of CFL and HPS....I plan on using two 250W HPS and 2 CFL's......How much bigger do ya'll think they will be able to grow given the light i have on them as of now? I want to try to get at least 8 plants in the closet....I also plan on only getting them a couple feet at the most before I start the flowering phase....And will two 250W HPS(500W total) and two CFL's be efficient for the flowering?! Also i'm working on a venting system for them but i haven't figured out how yet to do it, which is why i am trying to figure how long these lights will be efficient so i know how much time i'm working with!
1. those CFL's and floro tubes will get you though veg cycle. 1-5 weeks. IMO. (keep lights very close, 2-4 inches aways, with a fan blowing)
2. 4x2 closet? how tall?...One 250 watt might be enough. Add fresh air often as possible.
3. I would stay with 4 flowering female plants, at the most.
I would say its about or around 7'.....I wanted to try and fit a plant for each square footage I have, So you think a 250 will be alright? I wouldn't need two? And would one, possibly two of them save me more energy also? I also figured I could some how ventilate that hot air into the house as to warm it rather than use the heater.(save energy) But mainly I just wasn't sure if I needed one or two HPS?

a 250w HPS should cover a 3x3 room. one would do fine for what you are working with. hang it on some chains or something so you can lower and raise it as needed.
as far as the setup now, are those in a box or something? if not, i would suggest you use a cardboard box or something to build a little seedling box. that way you can maximize the ligth that you do have available. also do you have a fan blowing on them? try to get them fresh air.

Also, my goals for this project was to originally see the effects of the CFL's and grow tubes on growth, but as these little buddies start to grow I want to essentially maximize growth in what space I have....I figured I could grow at most 8 plants depending on the size of the plants growth...I only want to grow them at most 2 months in veg (or less depending on growth rate) Plus it would be a shame not to try and optimize growth on this silve haze strain....I might try that CFL and grow tube experiment on some bag seed:baggy: later in the future.....:yippee:
metal halide is better for veg, and high pressure sodium for bloom. so it would be best to get a dual ballast and run both. or you can get a few more CFLs and use those for veg and get just the HPS for flower.
keep in mind that your plants will grow by 1/2 to 2/3 when you put them in bloom, strain dependent obviously. never grown silver haze so i don't know. i think you are gonna run out of room quick with trying to grow that many plants in that space. you might try a SOG or ScROG.
if you go with the SOG you can get a perpetual harvest with the independent veg/flower rooms.

Well I mean I don't really have a sense on what exactly SOG/ScRoG is. I just know it has something to do with like chicken wire or something to separate each plants shoots, but thats all I really understand....Where could I find a page on it where its a detailed description, I read something on SOG/ScROG yesterday but I didn't really understand it too well(wasn't detailed enough) Any ideas anyone?!
