Alright, so let's talk about arguably the most mind-blowing genre for the lucky toker...what are your favourite bands, songs, etc.?
I've always been partial to Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane (check out the avatar), early Pink Floyd (when they had Syd Barrett), Cream, the Doors, late Beatles, Country Joe and the Fish, Love, the Byrds, the Grateful Dead, etc.
Jeferson Airplane practically invented 'acid rock'..(Find Somebody to Love)....:thumbsup:...add.."Bridge of Sighs"-Robin Trower.
Grails is probably my favorite band to listen to when I'm high.

Been meaning to listen to some Trower for awhile; thanks. Somebody to Love's a fantastic song, true enough...I just really, really wish more of their songs were in the public consciousness than just that and White Rabbit. I can pretty much guarantee a lot of the stoners on here would get a huge kick out of Good Shepherd, Wooden Ships, ReJoyce, etc. Bless Its Pointed Little Head is one of the greatest live albums I've ever heard, too...every bit as good as the Who live, I'd say.Quote:

That's because "psychedelic rock" is so limited as a definition and is dead as a genre. No one can make true psychedelic (acid rock is a better term) anymore. Besides refering to simply acid-rock bands, you limit the replies because psychedelic music covers other genres like stoner rock, shoegaze, lo-fi, post-rock, trip-hop etc.Quote:

what a band. too damn good. amongst the best psychadelia ever. too bad they are done. and i don't see h ow you could call them anything but psychadelic. the guy on youtube is right, possibly the best band no one has ever heard of

As one music lover to another, I challenge you to listen to some albums that I'll list. I guarantee you one of these albums in this list will blow your mind and are psychedelic in it's own way. it all depends on your curiosity and what you like in general. Dr Dog isn't true psychedelic in my opinion, they have a neo-psychedelic style. The pureness of acid rock, not many bands are doing it anymore.
But I completely agree with 40oz in regards that there's so much good, psychedelic-like, 60s based music coming out these days:
Delta Spirit - Ode To Sunshine
War On Drugs - Wagonwheel Blues
Two amazing albums that are complete throwbacks of the 60s, but pushing musical limits, Delta Spirit with their perfect blend of northern and southern rock, War on Drugs pushing the limits towards ambient rock while sounding bob dylanesque. In my opinion, those are the two best albums of 2008.
I can shake old Bobby M. at all. Plus anything live by O.A.R., Especially @ Madison Square Garden, they do have a somewhat psychedelic vibe and I don't care what you say!! "Solh Dareh Meyod" friends.

I'm sorry; I just tend to prefer my music created by human hands playing strings or hitting percussion, not technological tinkering. Not necessarily, a trance band like Wild Marmalade does all their stuff with hands, a couple of drummers and a didgeridoo. but if there's anyone to recommend psychedelic music, it's Metaphor, dude listens to some extremely trippy shit and he'd be a dude to recommend some real blow-your-mind psychedelic music since I tend to like a more poppy style than he prefers. I kinda hate Led Zeppelin too, not for any they done musically because 3 of the members Jimmy, John Paul Jones and John Bohman are great at what they do. It's simply because of a bad experience on another drug which I won't mention. If some guy put black dog for the first 7 seconds, then repeat it again and again all night long in that state of mind, I think you'd hate them too! Up to that day I listened to Led Zeppelin everyday. After that day, everytime I hear one of their songs, I cringe at the screams of Robert Plant, to me he sounds like the devil getting castrated.Quote:

I agree that musical exploration is a good idea, but it's none of my business if somebody only wants to listen to a single band. It does no harm to anybody else. I'd love to see everybody read Rimbaud's poetry, but most people just don't want to and I have no right to force them. I adhere to my tastes and if I don't like something, for whatever reason (justification is not required), I'm not going to listen to it for the sake of expansion. And please, I don't just listen to "bread and butter." I mean, who's heard of Country Joe and the Fish nowadays, let alone has heard all their albums?Quote:

Nor am I suggesting you only listening to bread and butter bands. IMO, you are open-minded about music and I'd never suggest to be any kind of snob when it comes to music. There's simply so many different styles that provoke different emotions, so many choices that you can't possibly digest it all and have protectionism over the choices you do digest. It's completely natural.
it's simply that most of the music that ended up being my favorites were suggested by other people. If their tastes match mine in some way, I'm going to highly value their input. Music exploration has to go at your own pace, centered around yourself, one genre of music provoke different emotions from person to person.
Yeah man Country Joe and The Fish is pretty good, listening to the album I Feel Like I'm Fixing To Die.
The first song, The Fish Cheer, I couldn't help to think of Les Claypool, the style of the voice and delivery of the lyrics. It's a trippy song. I like how their style has these diverse variations from song to song, and it's quite dreamy, drew from a variety of southern influences and mixed it together perfectly with the acid rock movement of the time. The delivery is like a pendilum swinging between sweetness and powerful, optimism and melancholy and it's quite beautiful. Rock Coast Blues is such a sweet track as well as Thursday. I'm a sucker for those wispy guitars.
Touche. It sounds like a deep, beautiful concept album, an enlightening listen.
