so since plants do not absorb green wavelengths could i put an all green led light in my room and tend the garden in the dark cycle im 26 days into flower so i dont want to chance light stress so if any of you experts know for sure let me know thanks alot:jointsmile:
no lights. why risk it???? If your flowering thn you have 12 hours in which to tend the garden.
I've used a green-tinted light before to see during the dark periods, but I only did it when it was absolutely necessary. It never caused anything to turn hermaphrodite, but again, I wasn't doing it frequently. There's really little reason to tend the plants during lights-out, so I wouldn't risk doing it too much unless you absolutely have to. Wait until the lights come on to water & admire them! :jointsmile:
A TRUE GREEN LED that you use only in emergencies is fine. Don't leave it turned on when you are not in there, and don't let the light of you opening the door disturb the plants. If you must visit them at night, you will need to build a light-lock walkway and close the first door before opening the second.
But a green party light still interrupts teh dark cycle. I have tested this. It is not good.
I use a green cfl party light to tend to my plants at night. My system runs at night and is dark during the day. When I wake up I go downstairs, flip on the green light (which is outside my box), and foliar spray them. I think some people forgot on this thread that you do have to tend to your plants at night to foliar spray. It is a 16 watt green cfl that lights up my basement with no other lights and I still have to open the door to my cab (which is 100% light proof at night) to spray them. It is still pretty pitch black inside that cab and the foliar spray only last 5 minutes so I doubt that green light makes a difference. Just don't leave it on for that long. And yes the plant does absorb a small amount of green light.

You are more likely to give yourself powdery mildew by spraying in the dark. I have never sprayed in the dark- always when the lights are on. If you are mixing your foliar sprays correctly, with one drop of dish soap or another horticultural spreader/sticker/surfactant/penetrator in the bottle, you will not have the droplet effect that can potentially burn your plants. Even then, droplet burns are less dangerous to plant health than increasing %RH during the dark period...Quote:

I'm with Stinky......and not spray ANYTHING on plants in the dark......it simply BEGS for mold/fungus issues.
Konvict they make this little led green light....sold at my hydro store that is considered safe in the dark period. I don't know enough about lighting to know why THIS type of green lighting is ok...but not some other types of green lights. A good friend of mine hermied his grow with the little green light on his dehumidifier so obviously not ALL light is created equal. :D

well i dont foliar spray at all i just like tending my garden;) and want more time to experiment so i wanted to check with the experts and she made it very clear so thanks alot everyone:jointsmile:
I have been foliar spraying in the dark for some time now with no problems of mold. I can see why some people have problems with this if they are not careful but with my mixture, spraying at night has always treated me better. I use penetrator, Pro grow, LK, and Purple maxx in my spray ( I also use bushmaster, and gravity as a foliar). I turn off the fan and spray them down, then turn on the fan. My humidity levels are 30%. I have had my levels in the summer turn to 80% and still no mold problems. I do not use sulfur. Using the Humboldt line while the lights are on is not a idea.
The Humboldt line is meant to be sprayed at any time during the light cycle and then have the lights raised or switched to supplemental lighting (I use a 24" t5 fixture for this exact purpose) for the 2-4 days following application. It's not about whether it is physically applied in dark or light, but how it changes the plant's response to available light and fertilizer while it is still in the plant's system being metabolized. I spray my Gravity and SnowStorm during 'day' but run the backup lighting (~150w of flouros I think) instead of my 2k of HIDs for the following 48 hours if it is a heavy application. The SnowStorm (aka purple maxx) alone, mixed weak, I just spray it approximately whenever I remember to, light cycle aside, and have not yet seen any problems from it. I run about 5mL in a quart sprayer for that one and mist it on REAL fine.
I know what your saying, and trust you, but I have always gotten better results when spraying 1 hour before my lights come on in the dark. This is from many grows experience.:D
You didn't say that before. That's a fine time to spray. It's nearer the start of the dark cycle when %RH is already climbing and adding moisture can be devastating.Quote:
