New one dreaming with only ONE question.
This is all a dream....
2 seeds sprouted, planted them in glass shaped plastic containers with homemade holes at the bottom for drainage. Been 3-4 days now and the first 2 real 2 leaves are about 1 in long.
They have plenty of "sun", 1 23 watts for each pot right over them and one 42 watt right between them. 6500k cfl they are.
Watering them with bottled water sitted for 2 days before using it. soil is a potting mix with 15% perlite i mixed it with.
I've got the whole deal right i think...
One question remain...when do I put the little ones in bigger pots? And how you folks use to do that?
I know i've got to go with 3 gallons container.
Actual containers are 4.5" tall (11.5cm), 3.5" (9cm) diameter at the top and 2.5" (6.5cm) diameter at the bottom.

New one dreaming with only ONE question.
I wouldn't go right to a 3gal I would go to a 1gal 1st. Make sure it is kinda dry and just put it upsidedown. Make sure to stradle your fingers around the plant to protect it. Oh and make sure you put new soil mix (a good soil) in the bottom of the pot you replanting to. about as full as you need to bring the plant up near the top. then just place it and fill around it with with more soil. then water alittle. If the plant is root bound I have heard to gut a few cuts in the roots to get them to grow outward but not sure about that.
You should still have some time before you need to replan. a few weeks I would guess.

New one dreaming with only ONE question.
I read in the facts that they transplant one at 16 days of growth. Mine's are 4 days old so in 2 weeks I should transplant them? (I know the plants will tell me when they'll need a bigger pot but...) I think 3 weeks from beginning is best.
I'll consider the 1 gallon pot to begin with, then go to a 3 gallons pot.
How much time between the 1 gallon to the 3 gallons?
Thanks a lot for your info.
I'm new here, i've read everything I can within the last 2 weeks everywhere on the internet. Almost all my searches ended up beeing answered here. So I subscribed.

New one dreaming with only ONE question.
The plant will let you know if it needs it. Time can depend on how fat they grow. There is alot that can change that. You can always check if your not sure. Just pop it out alittle and see if you have a root ball or if they still have more room.
I am still now here to but have read almost every post I could. Also if you havn't check out the grow logs. You will learn alot there also.

New one dreaming with only ONE question.
oh! and btw temperature at plant height under the lights is ~90f.
Thx, i was reading some grow logs right now and i can see that my 2 little childs are pretty well in shape!
1st is born oct.25th (2 days after germination with almost 2.5 inch of root)
2nd is born oct.26th (3 days after germination with 1 inch or root)
All of them were planted in soil at the same time, oct.24th

New one dreaming with only ONE question.
I always try to wait until they're slightly rootbound in the smaller containers before I transplant.. #1, this makes it easier to transplant, and #2 they seem to really take off once they feel all the new room to grow.
Lots of growers do it this way, while I'm sure that some don't... It's a matter of choice, really.

New one dreaming with only ONE question.
Logic way for doin it!
I'll go with that!

New one dreaming with only ONE question.
the thing i remember is someone saying 1 gallon per foot of growth... so i guess wait till its grown about 1 foot and then transplant to the 3 gallon pot.

New one dreaming with only ONE question.
Ok!!
Damn, i think i've overwatered one of them...it's leaning hard on one side. Tried to water the soil completeley yesterday (used to spray the soil with water so it's a bit wet once a day) so water come down the drain holes. I said perfect cause i didnt watered the soil completely when I planted them.
but now im confused. I've put a fan (not directly on them) to strenghten them and i push the soil a bit near the stem of the falling one to straighten it a bit. looks alright but I might not water them tomorrow.
will it survive? yes it can support a little flood. but is it going to affect it the rest of it's life?

Sounds to me you've overwatered them a LOT. Wait till the soil is pretty much bone dry, then water. After that, water every other day and feed them nutes after you've watered them twice. So basically once a week feed them.

New one dreaming with only ONE question.
Yesterday I've put a little "u" shaped wire strip with little legs to make like a little "tutor?" so he isn't leaning anymore.
Come back to work tonight and he's fine i think. 2nd set of leaves are 1/2 long so it's growing right! Soil is a bit wet to touch on top so no watering until it is desert dry.
Question. 1st set of leaves of both of them are COMPLETELY different. Comparable size. But the shape man. One have like 8 pairs of veins on them and it is long but not really wide. the other have 5 pairs of veins and is wide but not as long. But they have roughly the same surface area.
the 1st is 5 days old and the other is 4 days old. they are growing relativaly fast!
I'll try to post pics this weekend.

I'm seeing the tips of the roots down the drain holes of the cup. So basically roots are shooting out the drain holes...time for transplant?

New one dreaming with only ONE question.
Would you say your plants are in 16oz cups? My two females have been in 16oz cups since sprout (strain unknown), and now about 5-6 weeks later one is about 16 inches tall, and the other is about 9 inches. Besides some underwatering stress a couple weeks ago, They have been 100% healthy. I'm already flowering them because they developed preflowers about a week ago while still on the 16/8 light cycle... Im not sure if this is too early but I said screw it. I'm kinda just experimenting right now anyway.
In case you're wondering what my setup is:
-One 19 watt energy efficient fluorescent bulb
-MiracleGro standard potting soil
-Fed with MicracleGro all-purpose plant food once a week with a low concentration solution
-Watered generously approx. every other day.
I also cut a hole in the bucket and put a small fan in to get circulation in the bucket. The bucket also has white walls, which probably acted quite well as a reflector.
Now that I have it in flowering, Im putting a blanket over the whole thing to keep any light out during the 12 hour dark cycle and have a really ghetto fan set up to get air inside. I'll let you know how it goes.
Look at it!

New one dreaming with only ONE question.
...Also, I've decided to leave them in the cups for flowering unless someone tells me its a death sentence for my plants. I'm not super worried about a higher yield or whatever right now. you can only do so much in a dorm room anyway :)
-
New one dreaming with only ONE question.
Dude, please get a cheap hps light somewhere. Maybe one of those 70 or 75w units for $50 bucks or something. It would most likely tripple you're yield.
-
New one dreaming with only ONE question.
I have an HPS bulb, but all that ballast business is confusing as hell so I just went with the energy efficient. and as much as I'd LOVE to triple my yield, I'm gonna have to wait till I don't live in the dorms :(

New one dreaming with only ONE question.
nice man, but even I consider this like not enough.
I've got two 42w 6500k cfls + one 23w 6500k cfl + one 23w 2700k cfl
For my two plants. I think I'll buy a new camera this week so I'll post pics of my setup.
Also, yeah they were in ~16oz cups since seed age. But now they are in 1.5Gallons pots. THEY LIKE IT!!
Yesterday they had like 10 leaves, they doubled!!! and there are plenty to come!
I'll buy more 42w cfls (6500 and 2700 cuz i'll use the 2700 for flowering.
So in 2 weeks the setup will be (for each plants)
2x 42w 6500k cfl ON TOP
2x 23w 6500k cfl + 2x 23w 2700k cfl ALL AROUND
1x 42w 2700k cfl ON THE GROUND POINTING UP
I'll turn the pots 1/4 of a turn each day so they will always be surrounded by light on every single leaf.
That is fo veg.
For flowering i'll add more 2700k cfls...HPS is out of option for now until I got more info on them (price here and heat they produce and stuff like that) And I don't have a LOT of room....
Question...For veg is it better 16/8 or 18/6?
I'm with 16/8 but I don't wnt them to enter flowering before I command them to...
Think i'll increase to 17/7...Compromise..!
Oh and your puppies looks healthy!!
Mine are 10 and 9 days old!
-
New one dreaming with only ONE question.
Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure you should keep it on the 16/8 cycle. Increasing the "day time" for your plant may induce some stress. I would leave it there (its what I did) until you decide to flower. i think you got it from there...
-
New one dreaming with only ONE question.
It's not stressful at all.
they wake up at 10am and they used to go to sleep at 2am (16/8)
now they wake up at 10am but they go to sleep at 3am (17/7)
so yesterday lights turned off at 3am...blah thats today but anyway...
the point is to not change the "wake up" time. but the Go to sleep time is not as crucial. What I've read somewhere..
Came off work at 7h30pm (12h shift) and the plants are doin fine!! They grow like crazy but the stem is not strong enough for the 8426389543687 leaves growing...so couple minutes ago i've put my lights i little bit higher so they can grow towards it!
Can't wait for tomorrow...Camera time!! I'll post pics tomorrow or friday.
I'm thinking of starting my grow log...anyone subbin ? :D
