Lowryder 2, not 1st grow but 1st dwarf grow
Hi,
OK I already started a grow log for this but I entirely changed my setup after being gifted a 125w CFL so I've decided to start the log again in the interests of keeping it accurate.
Again I would like to thank all the contributors to this forum, I really haven't had to look much else where for any answers and all other forums I checked out didn't seem as great as this place.
My setup is a 3ft x 2ft x 22" cupboard. I'm using a 125w 2700K CFL light.
I have an 8cm active exhaust and an 8cm passive intake. There is also a 10" fan for circulating air inside the cupboard.
I have germinated 2 seeds by simply planting them in soil in degradable pots placed under a plastic propagator lid, this was done on the 16th, both seeds have broken the surface today (19th).
Once the plants have been potted into some larger trays I am going to start photographing them from the same angle, with the same area of focus and as similar of lighting quality as possible at least every second day and once the grow is complete I will make this into a few seconds long stop motion movie. :smokin:
Sorry for starting this grow log twice but I really want to keep it as accurate and as detailed as possible.
Thanks again to everyone who posts here.

Always wanted to see lowryder growing, can't wait for some pics!

Lowryder 2, not 1st grow but 1st dwarf grow
OK, it was 5 days ago I planted both seeds. One seed is now an inch tall plant while the other is a little shy and still hiding in its shell, it has germinated and I can see a little green trying to pop out from the top. If by tomorrow the plant hasn't managed to pop its casing I'll probably help it manually and if it looks too weak or damaged to be worth continuing I'll start another (I really hope this isn't the case)
If the second seed does pop out tomorrow I'll also pot their degradable fibre pots into larger plastic trays. I figure since the grow box is so small height wise that hopefully a wider and longer tray will work ok instead of a deep pot.
If that is the case I'll try and get the first photos up.
5 days gone only 55 to go till :S5:

Just a quick update.
The weaker seed has successfully popped out of its casing and looks fine :).
Not going to bother to re-pot them until the weaker plant has had a day or so to strengthen up.
Will make a point to get some pics up before the weekend.

Day 8 since planting seeds, time for the first pic!
As you can see one of the two is a little bit behind the other but I'm still glad that it manged to emerge and that I didn't have to start another seed.
You can also see that I ran out of soil before I managed to properly fill both trays, I hope to get that sorted by the start of next week.
I think once the plants start to flower (around 20 days?) I'll add in a 70w hps light for occasional additional light - I'll only be able to run this while I can leave the box doors open due to heat issues so at most it'll be 6 hours a day and some days not at all. Can anyone say if this uneven extra light could in some way adversely affect the plants?

Lowryder 2, not 1st grow but 1st dwarf grow
Borrowed a digital thermometer last night, with the box closed for 3 hours the temp rose to 30c (86f). I'm a little worried that when the box is sealed for 8 hours at a time that the temps might be rising a bit too high. I read that 70f-80f is optimal, not too sure how much a variation of +10f to 20f or so may make... any thoughts?

Lowryder 2, not 1st grow but 1st dwarf grow
I'm interested to see how this will go. I'm planning a Lowryder/Ak-47 grow soon in a similar space. I think I will be using CFLs as well. I'm curious on the wattage needed per lowryder with a CFL. I will be growing 4 at once. Also, is there any difference in wavelengths you need to be aware of here using CFLs?

Lowryder 2, not 1st grow but 1st dwarf grow
This is the Santa Maria version I'm growing.
I'll admit I was a little put off by some of what I read but I think some folk grew with way inferior setups and blamed the genetics for the weak harvest/potency...plus it often seemed to be the original Lowryder not LR2 that was being discussed.
If going for the 4 I think you'd need at least 2x125w to get a nice harvest.

Lowryder 2, not 1st grow but 1st dwarf grow
Hey folks,
I've been sick as a dog for the past few days... really not been keeping a decent schedule.
The bigger of the two plants is doing well but the smaller one is taking a very long time to get going. The second pair of 'weed like leaves' have emerged but it's been over a day since I could see them and they haven't grown at all.
Hoping the runt picks up a little otherwise I'll be a bit disappointed in it :(

If vegging only has another 7 days or so then I can see this being one weak ass harvest :(
I think next time I'll invest in one or two 15w fuzz led lights to see what sort of a difference that'll make.

Lowryder 2, not 1st grow but 1st dwarf grow
Hi, I've got an autoflowering grow going on right now and mine is three weeks old and six of the seven I planted are all of 2-3 inches tall the seventh is something of a runt at 1". Fortunately they haven't started to flower yet so there is still hope :)
-
Lowryder 2, not 1st grow but 1st dwarf grow
Started to add nutes about a day or two ago, ramping up to full strength over the next week or so.
Only upping a pic of the stronger of the two plants, she seems to be doing well. The runt is still lagging behind majorly :(

Lowryder 2, not 1st grow but 1st dwarf grow
Hi, What light cycle do you have them on? I think my grow is only 5 or 6 days ahead of yours and they are close to the same size. I recently upped the lighting to 20/4 and they do seem to be growing a little better. One of mine has come out as a boy all 4 inches of him(G)
-
Lowryder 2, not 1st grow but 1st dwarf grow
Normally 20/4 although I've had builders in for a few days recently so I've had to kill the light for as long as 8 hours on those occasions... luckily they're done working near sensitive areas ;)
What I really want to do is add in some LED lights but apart from the Procyon it seems hard to find a light that someone will vouch for, I'm not looking to spend $400+ quite yet but I wouldn't mind parting with around half of that for something around half the power...
Hopefully none of these two are male...the seeds are feminised so they shouldn't be.

Lowryder 2, not 1st grow but 1st dwarf grow
Hey folks
OK I rearranged the box today and discovered a massive dead spider, left my skin crawling for hours afterwards :(
Anyways, after tidying up the box I noticed the temp felt warmer (I don't have a thermometer to check atm) I'm going to change the exhaust fan out for a larger more powerful one which I'll hopefully pick up tomorrow or Sat, and I'm defo putting some mesh or something over the intake to stop creepy crawlies invading again.

Lowryder 2, not 1st grow but 1st dwarf grow
OK no pics today I'm afraid...
http://boards.cannabis.com/growroom-...lp-needed.html
If anyone can help me with this I'd be very grateful.
I decided to move the plants back to their original position in the centre of the box since they started to show signs of heat stress after only one night in the corner (even though this is directly below the vents). I also removed the books I had them sitting on which were raising them up by about an inch.
I've added a 70w hps into the mix, I can only run this on average about 5 or 6 hours each day when I'm able to leave the box door open but I'm hoping this will boost the end yield by at least a couple of grams in total.
I now have the nutes up to full strength :) the nutes are NPK 8-12-14 'Flowering Houseplant Food'.
A friend is bringing up a thermometer tonight so I can get a fresh reading of the temp, last time it was sitting at 30-31c with this new fan I'd like to see a drop of 4-5c.
Peace

Day 27 so I should be into flowering now... just a pic of the big lady today
-
Lowryder 2, not 1st grow but 1st dwarf grow
I installed the new fan but screwed it in back to front so I now have an active intake and passive exhaust... anyways I left it like this for a temp check and instead of sitting at 30-31c like it was before it's now down to 25-26c.
I may switch it around later but until smell becomes an issue I'll likely keep it as is.

Looks great! Is that as tall as it will get?

Hi, She is looking good about how tall is she?
-
Lowryder 2, not 1st grow but 1st dwarf grow
looking nice. ive currently got 3 LR2 plants in my closet and one of them is 2 weeks from harvest. i also had 2 smaller plants that lagged behind but once i started to add nutes they really caught up.
my biggest one is almost 9 inches and its pretty covered with buds
-
Lowryder 2, not 1st grow but 1st dwarf grow
I guess that's me half way done now, woot!
Well the main plant is about 10" and the runt about 6" or 7", I'm not sure if they'll get any taller I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
I can see some clear signs of budding on the larger plant but on the small plant there still isn't anything showing...I'm a little worried about it being a hermie :( but then agian the large plant only showed definite signs of sex about 3 or 4 days ago and the runt is about a week behind so who knows...

Oscar Mike, They are looking good I thought I could see some pistil formation on the runt. They are still a bit larger then mine.

Lowryder 2, not 1st grow but 1st dwarf grow
Lunarose I'm not sure if that's not just a stipule you can see, I've had a better look I don't think it's male but it's still not showing any definite female signs... but I'm quietly confident (they are feminised after all)
I just read that to decrease humidity for the end of flowering period I can use silica gel, this is awesome since where I live has to be one of the wettest places outside the rain forest and I also have what is basically an unlimited supply of the little silica gel packs that you get in shoe boxes etc :)
Since smell is becoming a bit of an issue (at least while the doors are open) I've invested in some polyfiller flexible gap filler to fill the gaps around the doors. When I get time to install this I'll also switch the fan to exhaust rather than intake and that should take care of the smell for a while at least.

Lowryder 2, not 1st grow but 1st dwarf grow
Looks like one of the plants is somehow male...feminised? pfft!
Would like confirmation from someone with experience with males since I've never had to ID one before...
Not a lot else to say, just looking to get this grow over with and start a fresh one before new year. Grow box should be fully completed by then and I won't be fucking up lighting schedules now that it's on a timer.
Grr...are males even worth using for hash?

Lowryder 2, not 1st grow but 1st dwarf grow
basiacally instead of the little cone that the pistils come out of there will be a small grouping of little balls at the joints of the stems and if you have that then it will definitly be male, but i couldnt help but notice the tips of your leaves are browning and curling, that could be heat stress or nutrient burn. If your lights are closer then 2-4 inches you might wanna back em off a little bit or go a little easier on the nutrients and see if that doesnt clear it up, the stress could cause your female to switch to hermie
-
Lowryder 2, not 1st grow but 1st dwarf grow
Yeah I think that was nute burn, I've dropped it wayyy down now.
I know what a full blown male would look like but I dunno, it's only those two hairs that are in the pic that have appeared... is there any hope for it now?

I had a problem IDing one before and used this a guide. Hope it helps! :stoned:
-
Lowryder 2, not 1st grow but 1st dwarf grow
Thats a female for sure, but it could being going hermie. Fem seeds just garuntee female but if the plant was stressed for some reason it can still go hermie but looking at that pic I would give it 4 or 5 more days you will know for sure at that point if its gone hermie.
-
Lowryder 2, not 1st grow but 1st dwarf grow
Don't get rid of that puppy just yet.
There are no balls @ the end of the pistil are they?
Someone should chime in that can tell you positively one way or another.
Post another pic tomorrow.
Nice log keep up the great work!

Oscar Mike, I didn't think AF could become hemies but I am not sure. I won't get rid of her I'd just trim off any balls that develop *if* they develop.
-
Lowryder 2, not 1st grow but 1st dwarf grow
"feminized" seeds doesn't necessarily mean you will get all females. the conditions that the plant is in will be the determining factor in most cases. if the plant is heat stressed or have a nute defficiency there is a lot greater chance of it being male. i bought 5 feminized LR2 seeds and got 4 females and 1 male.
yeah id say your plant is def a female by the pistil development by the calyx (sp?) although it can become a hermie. either way you will have buds.
