I believe that the roots on the sides of the basket are starting to get root rot. The ones hanging down look fine. I will post pictures in 30 min...late in the game but just got a camera.
I wanted to get hydroguard but I am told they took it off the market (my local hydro store said this). He recommended sub culture, techna flora, or hydrozyme. He said if I go with sub culture I need an air stone even with the nft. ANY SUGGESTIONS...reference pics.

ps: StinkyAttic could you delete that second post in this thread. I tried to post pictures and it didn't work the first time. Thanks.
So...here (finally) are the pictures. Any suggestions on anything is greatly appreciated. I am to take clones tomorrow, thurs, and would like to know the best growing shoots to take them off of and if anyone is able to draw on one of the pictures of exactly where I would cut to take a clone that would be very much appreciated. I'm a little nervous.
Also, should I thin out the bottom of the plant to allow for better air flow...
Is that the start of root rot?
HOW LONG INTO FLOWERING DOES A PLANT SHOW ITS SEX? I wanted to sex them through clones but am not able to due to the fact that I am reaching my height limit for veg and MUST flower unless any ideas.
LETS START THERE...hope you like

Oct 17, UPDATE: Pump stopped working at about 4:00pm. Didn't notice it until 6:15pm. It is now 7:20pm after a quick rez change and they are already starting to perk back up again. I added some SUB CULTURE to help ward off the root rot and still waiting to buy the iceprobe aquarium chiller I've been looking at, $110. Meant to clone today but since the plants got stressed I'll wait until tomorrow.

Really nice setup !
I don't know a lot about hydro and I don't seem to see any root rot sings....
But I'll help with the cloning part... Check the picture read this is a nice clone and this little article in the FAQs is good Text
I'll just add that you must! get to clone ASAP in the rooting hormone once cut !
If the plants getting to big you could take more clones, this may stress them a little, usually nothing too bad !
For the air flow I think that your exhaust rate is great with your Can Fan 8" but a pedestal fan or a fan under the setup (Co2 is heavier than air) may be a good idea.
Usually you can see the 1st sings of flowering in 1-2 week.
Why did you're pump stopped ?
Hope this little information can help you. I'll keep checking the log, trying to learn more about hydro !

thanks for the link for cloning LuciferN. The pump didn't stop but the air was unusually dry that night (temp/rh drop) and I left the lid off the my res so the res water evaporated faster than I thought that night. Lesson learned.
Question on Cloning*: Which are better...1)cuttings from lower on the main stem (I am told lower, thicker side growth have a higher rooting %) or 2)cola tops 3)simply upper, well lumened, side growth.

What should the feeding schedule be before taking clones? I have read that you want no nitrogen and should use a bloom and ST a week before then feed straight water 30 min before. I read that off StinkyAttics guide in his signature. I may have read it wrong as I know ST has LOTS of Nitrogen.
I really have to take clones in the next couple of days...SOMEBODY please let me know what I should feed the mothers so I can take clones HOPEFULLY tomorrow!!!

I clone right before im going to flip the light.....very High N diet......i take off the lower portion of the plants(maybe the plant has 20-30 nodes/18-24inch plant) ...the bottom nodes are more established at that size.....nodes that are usually 1/8 inch thick are good for stability.....Im gonna post my cloning technique from my log....i seem to get 100% roots when using this method:
I use 2- 13w/ 6500k CFL over my clone tray in a 2'x2'x2 cardboard box....i hope u dont mind
I make cuts with a normal cheap sissor which i bought at Wal Mart......I dip the cuts in Olivia Cloning Gel.....i soak the jiffy pellets in half strenght Fox Farm Nutes which the feeding schedule comes from their web site.(mixture for clones and seeds).....i spray them once or twice a day with 7.0 phed water....and i leave the dome off each day starting on day 3, and i start by removing the dome for about 20 min on day 3 then hopefully 1-2 hrs by day 7 and by day 10-11 usually they will be able to deal with the reduced humidity and no dome. I can usually see roots on day 7-9

I have no problem if you post your link in here...I will use it.
Question about your above writing...I looked on the Cannabis FAQ and found a feeding schedule for mothers. This is the schedule I got off of the Cannabis FAQ:
cloning
Care of mother plants

What should I feed my mothers prior to cloning?
While the stock plant is in the active vegetative growth stage, feed it with a good quality, all-purpose or high Nitrogen fertilizer. One week before taking a cutting feed the stock plants with a low nitrogen, high Phosphorus flowering fertilizer.
The flowering fertilizer will lower the amount of stored nitrogen in the plant and increase the amount of stored carbohydrates necessary for the production of roots. Spraying the foliage with water daily will accelerate this process.
1) So feed a HIGH phosphorus LOW nitrogen a week before
2) Feed plain water 30 minutes before cutting clones
...does this sound correct for a synopsis for the feeding schedule? THEN...what's the best mixture to put in your cloning tray (ST and water ph'ed out)?
KILLA: you said you take clones before changing the lighting...are you talking about before you change your lighting schedule from 18/6 to 12/12?
As for the cloning procedures off your link...a cup of ST and water to put the clones in directly after I cut them will keep the edema air bubble from forming?
Also, should I put the cutting in the ST water then scar it real quick and then dip it in the Rootech and place in plug? I don't know how fast that air bubble creeps in there.
THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP...I APPRECIATE ANOTHER BRAIN ON THIS.

Stinkyattic, rhizome, anyone...
I am hitting height restrictions and need suggestions. when should I give a (low P, high N) diet and when do I give a (high P, low N) diet?
-
First Grow: WW, BG, Haze/Skunk
by the way...the above question is in regards to what to feed the plants being cloned before cloning.
ALSO, do I have enough time to take a cutting and scar it before sticking it in the rooting hormone (without getting the air bubble)?

Try that one. Im sorry Im not better help on this one. I dont feed my mothers anything different than normal vegging, I cut one, scar it, cut leafs, dip and stick in the cube. Then take the next cut.... still keep well over 85-90% rooting clones. I do lose some leaves, lol....So I would love to see a sticky on moms.
Anybody wanna give that a whirl? Mom maintenance and cloning guide?

high pottasium during flowering

whats the feed for clones? Do I use ST and only ST for the cuttings? Do I give them a any water at all? Any other mixes?
PS: I suppose I have plenty of time to cut, scar, and dip before an air bubble forms?

sorry i didnt get back to you sooner but i had a bad week......i dont use any ST in my cloning process......i use 1/2 strength week 1 nutes recommended by Fox Farm......ive also read that bit of info about the less N while taking clones.....but ive found that when taking clones using a Very High N ratio....i never lose clones or leafs for that matter......they stay perky and usually root in 7-9 day and easily transplantable in 10-12 days max!
Im not also into scuffing the stem.....i feel if you use high quality rooting hormone; the hormone will do all the work...and i make a quick cut and right into the rooting hormone......i then cut the leafs while its in the hormone bottle!

Thanks Killa...I ended up taking a different route.
I ended up with this schedule:
Sunday 10/19 -----> started high P low N diet to build carbs to help in root growth...Text
Thursday 10/23 ----->took 3 clones from each plant (total of 66 clones...tough on your back)
Saturday 10/25 ------>res change...added Bushmaster (new additive that supposably slows stretching when going into flowering), progrow flowering, calmag, LK, subculture (promote healthy bacteria on roots)
Taking clones:
1) I cut the clone
2) scar it and cut off fan leaves
3) immediately then dip in ROOTECH
4) trim leaves while in RT
5) jab scissors into bottom or sunleaves version of rapid rooter and insert clone
6) mist dome and place on dish
7) 24hr light (34W t5)
****After doing all the bending I could I have hit my height restriction for veg so I MUST flower this sunday (3 days after clones were taken)...I know this is bad due to stress but no room. ANY SUGGESTIONS??? My idea was that YES this will cause additional stress but as soon as I can sex them I can cut down the males and tie down any sites that are TOO HIGH.******
THIS IS ALL QUITE AN EXPERIENCE-AND NERVE RACKING AT TIMES TOO. I have checked them everyday but have come into low res's and other stupid little problems too. Takes effort but such a sense of satisfaction...

Killa...I think that this may have been the best advice I could have taken. I took three clones from each plant and tried the scarring technique. I have thrown out about half of the clones ALREADY because I guess I scarred too much or too deep or didn't get the entire scarred part below the surface.
All this combined with the fact that the tops of some of the plugs dried up and sucked the rest of the life right out of the plants in those plugs.
I am now at the end of week 1 flowering. I am trying to flower (and having to tie down a lot) and harvest before I reach my absolute height limit.
I am hoping that they will show signs of sex soon so that I may cut down the males and LST the remaining to keep the females low.
