HELP: what is this?

I'm on day 8 and everything is going great except for a few problems.

First, the setup
-42w 6500k CFLs. I was using two bulbs with three plants under each but now I have three bulbs with two plants under each.
-Half Fox Farms Ocean Fresh Half organic seed starter dirt and maybe 25% perlite
-First 5 days or so I gave them about .5oz each of water every day. Now I'm giving them 2oz every 3 days. pH of the water is about 6.5


This first thing appeared a few days ago. It didn't get worse except the first couple days the brown spots weren't there then over the next couple days they appeared.

It's second set of leaves are growing in really weird too. I know it looks like they are curled up and dying but they aren't.

Now this second thing appeared today on another plant. This morning the plant was fine then I went to check on it 12 hours later and it looked like this.

Any ideas?

To me it looks like a flowering clone that you are trying to switch back to veg, it also looks like a bit of cal/mag def, with the brown spots. Time and a 18 hours of day light will fix the curling problem. Give them a spray with a cal-mag solution to fix the the small brown spots and add a bit to your nutrient solution next time you feed your plant. The third set of pics look like something was chewing on your leaf, if the trail gets any bigger you have to kill the bug eating your weed, somehow.

Looks like their feet hurt.:)
I suggest that you re-pot, right away.
Then let them dry a little between waterings.

They were actually grown from seed and I haven't given them any nutes yet because they are only 8 days old and from what I read the fox farms should provide plenty if not too much. The lights are on 24 hours a day. What kind of bug would do this?

I agree the first thing could be from too frequent waterings because it happened early on when I was giving them a tablespoon every day but the second thing happened after I switched to watering every 3 days. I had given it it two ounces of water 4 days ago and yesterday that happened after 3 days of no water.

Would transplanting when they are so small hurt the plant? Because I am going to use fox farms dirt I read they don't handle it too well when they are so young. Currently they are in 50/50 fox farms and seed starter.

You're right about the FF.
Does look like early nute-burn.

Perhaps it would be good to keep the 50/50 mix, for the first re-pot or better, add more perlite for drainage and neutrality.

Transplanting at this age is just fine.
Not too big a pot though. Ideally one should do 3 or 4 re-pots as they grow.
Jumping right to the big containers can leave dry spots and mini bogs.

Oh, and that's not bug damage as far as I can see.
A small snail or slug could cause that scraped looking lesion, but there would be telltale slime tracks.
The trick for blaming bugs is to look for bug poo.:D

From the thickness of the leaf, and the internode distance, it looks like you have plenty of light.

If the leaf has the top layer taken off it like it looks like in the pic, I would guess you have a small snail. The fox farms should help with the vary minor dif your are experiencing. If they are that young I wouldn't worry about the twisting, it sometimes happens when the top of the leaf grows faster then the bottom, it should sort it self out. To be honest they look pretty good over all. The most important thing that has been mentioned in this thread is the over watering. For a plant that size I would be giving it about 35ml every 3 days. Plants need 4 times as much O as they do water, by keeping the soil wet your drowning them. Try to think of it this way, you are not watering the soil, you are watering your plant and its thin and small compared to the amount of soil.

Where do snails hangout? Where should I look for it?

just check to see if the trails are getting any bigger. That's the easiest way to figure out if you still have the bugger around.

Really doubt that's what's happening, snails eat the whole leaf.
Slugs will scrape, but usually leave a trail to their hiding place.

If the damage continues, check them an hour or so after lights out.
Mollusks munch at midnight. Gastropods chew before dawn.;)

Well I doubt it's bugs too but I figured it wouldn't hurt to take a look around :) Lights are on 24 hours a day but I'll keep an eye on it and see if it gets bigger. So far it looks like it's just changing color.

One more thing you will get more dry product if you change your lighting to a 18 hour on and a 6 hour off cycle. This 24/0 light cycle is a common mistake that growers make when they are just learning, study the Krebs cycle if you want to know more about Y, or just do it and get more bud. :thumbsup:

Ok I was thinking about this and I realized that my problems began after I started using Top Fin pH Decrease for aquariums. Could this be the problem?

the ingredients of it are Sodium bisulfate and water

Dunno, SS.
But lemon juice works OK as a PH down.
Hydro PH downer is usually Phosphoric and citric acids.

Notice that they still have tight shoes.:)
If you can't transplant immediately, at least cut the bottoms off those cups and "bog" them on some unamended soil. Rockwool, perlite, coco, etc.
I'm guessing that the roots have hit bottom and are coiled in an un-manageable stagnation

What's the PH of the runoff water?

Ok well I've taken your advice and transplanted 5/6 plants. I Left one in it's original cup because I couldn't find a pot for it and I kind of wanted to leave one so I could compare it to the others. I bought some distilled water which I tested to be about 6.5 and used that to water. The one plant which was not transplanted I flushed with the same water using about 3x the volume of the container it is in. The runoff water was about ~6.5. Wednesday I will be getting some pH down from the hydro store near me.
