After placing 4 (feminised) seeds in starter cubes and 4 days of anxious pacing later, one of them finally shows signs of life. Come on girls! (I'm hoping for triplets in an ideal world) :thumbsup:
Since I'm not quite ready to start a grow log but excited like a proud new parent, I wanted to show her first photo...
yay jane!! i just had three seeds crack over the last 48hr...one of them is looking just like that one.
Do you think it's normal for the others to be behind? The one is changing (a second tiny "stalk" sprouted up and she's a bit taller) but nothing whatsoever from the others.
I am not sure if I should just be patient with them or open the cube and see what's going on (possibly ruining them in the process) possibly scuff the unopened seeds with sandpaper or what.
Damn, I knew I should have done the paper towel method, these starter cubes are too mysterious. :D
It's dark, no drafts, the right temp and they're not too dry or too moist that I know of. It's been 5 days, which I know isn't long, but I am just unsure if one should be a couple days ahead of the others.
Any insight would be appreciated.
^ nevermind. I carefully pulled off the "plug hole" and see the seeds have broken and will hopefully sprout up soon... that is if I didn't ruin something, which is entirely my sort of luck.

Thank you. Oh I am sure they'll be plenty of pics of the girls if I can raise them right. I've never had much of a green thumb so this is a bit strange and stressful for me but I'm giving it my best shot and trying not to lose my head over it. I'm really glad to have found this forum, what an abundance of good info and good people. :thumbsup::jointsmile:

I germed ~20 seeds, of those one 9 popped over the course of 5 days, so I have one which is a little big bigger than that pic, 5 about that size, and 3 still to come up...
so i guess its just a thing
OK, another photo. (proud mum) The (diffused) light seems to really be doing them good!
We're looking much better now, the 4th one has even sprung up! :)
"Marge" has two heads, which seems bizarre. Maggie seems to be the little star of the family.
I'll start an actual grow log soon.
Ummm...looks to me like Marge was two seeds, not one. Not too late to (carefully) seperate and transplant. They'll just keep fighting for space and nutes. :thumbsup:
Oh bollocks. I wondered what was going on. It was definitely only one seed though. So I take it that doesn't just happen sometimes? I hope I don't have a double fatality in separating that out. :wtf: Any recommendations on how to do that?Quote:

Yah, your going to want to pull that other plant out and put her into her own dish, my friend grew 2 in one pot, he got them to flower and the plants refused to flower or show sex and then wilted and died. I told him it wouldnt happen and it did. Now Jane remember, and be careful that just because you bought femminized seeds, does not mean they are all females. Sometimes with femmizied you do get more females, but there is a chance to get a male so be careful. You also stand getting hermaphrodites with femminized seeds and if you get one of these, your going to probably pollinate the whole plant or worse your whole crop. So keep an eye on it a week into flower. Regarding the seed sprouts. Dont give them to much attention. They will grow, just water them once a day and dont do much else. you kill seeds by watching them to much and carring to much. GOOD LUCK I HOPE IT GOES WELL!!!!!!

You need to get those babies under some brighter, more intense light pronto.
That's the reason they're stretching so tall.

Thanks doobster. I thought that might be the case but it's good to see someone else saying so. :thumbsup: I actually moved the HPS down a bit closer to them a few hours ago (it was well over a metre away). Now it's about 2 feet away. I figured I'd bring it slowly closer by the day.
Sounds good :D You'll probably end up needing ro stake the plants up for a while, until their stems get stronger. A small fan blowing a gentle breeze on them will help tremendously with that. :)
I sure hope not, I imagine it's a bugger to train them off the support stake. I do have a fans blowing on them (one above which is directed at them and one below to move warm air up. [pictured]) and it gives some movement (and hopefully strength) to the stems. Dries out the soil a bit but 'dems da brakes.
I did the separation. :thumbsup: It was so bizarre. It was one seed and the smaller sprout had the remnants of that seed stuck in its roots. The other one looked like it formed as a part of the root structure, it did look separate from the other. I got them apart and planted. I put them in lower in the soil hoping they don't become supermodel tall like the others.
What a strange turn, if it works out and I actually get 5 plants from 4 seeds I could really get some bragging rights there: "My germination rate is 125%. No, really!"

Sooo...how are the twins looking today?
They look the same as they did last night when I separated them. I figured they're probably stressed out and their growth would be stunted for a bit. They're not looking worse though, which has to be good.
I'm trying not to fuss with them too much and inflict the most common cause of seedling death: over-love. It's difficult because I am so analytical over every little thing and excited for every little change. It's like bizarro parenting. :upsidedow

Dont be afraid to repot those babies, right up to the cotylendons (first set of leaves)...the stem will produce roots and make a stronger sturdier plant...
