GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
Well hello cann.com - and welcom to my second indoor grow. For all those that weren't watching, my first grow was one plant heavily LST'd in a computer with 92 cfl watts. yielded about an ounce of tasty dank, and a realization of what could be done on a 'micro' level.
I am usually browsing over on icmag in their micro section for inspiration, especially from a member who flowers 144 plants with 1176 watts in a very compact manner. I decided to scale it down, build something more geared towards my personal use, and maybe a tad bit less crammed.
I present you my micro house of foam.
[attachment=o199350]
Yes, Styrofoam.. Didn't have the tools nor the cash for anything more luxurious. In retrospect it was a really easy material to use and build with, and very strong once finished.
[attachment=o199351]
The lighting is supplied via two 4-light vanity fixtures, so a total of 8 possible CFLS. Right now there are 6 23 watt cfls, and 2 50 watters. Planning on adding a couple more 50's once I completely finish the intake/exhaust, but the current temps don't allow it.
[attachment=o199352]
The ventilation is fairly simple, 1 dayton blower exhausting, passively. My hinging door stays shut perfectly just by the suction. I am thinking of adding a 4" dayton intake once the carbon filter (if needed) is added. Right now the temps are 84, but I am shooting for the 70's.
I had to do some work lining the outside and inside with poster board to prevent 'glow,' and added weatherstripping to the door and lid to go around wires. It is very close to light safe, and will be completely soon.
I am growing in COCO again, and hoping for the similar beautiful results (without burning them)

OK - On to the plants.
STRAINS
So this was my first time cloning... the cuts were taken from my outdoor plants about an hour away. Not to mention they were from pretty malnourished plants. Turned out O.K. - got 12 out of about 25. They all rooted within 10 days and are now in 20 oz gatorade/powerade bottles. I think they are looking shitty for a couple reasons. one there was a small mite attack right when they first got in the foam box (taken care of), and two they needed to be fed badly. just got them some nitrogen for the first time 2 days ago and they are looking a lot better. FINGERS CROSSED :rasta:
Good God (clone from club, unknown genetics)

Bagseed (most vigorous of the plants I grew outside this year, also the fastest rooting clone by far, 5 days)

Purple Erkle a.k.a BUSHY FUCK (only one from seed - not sure about the yellowing, it had been going a little before the clones and needed veg nutes for sure...) hopefully its on the right path now.. the new growth looks pretty good

Oh yeah, will be flowering between 12-15 plants, 12/12 from clone. I have 11 now, 1 possible male (urkle), and plan on throwing maybe 1-2 clones from the club in. I am using MaxiGro veg nutes and used The Stimul8r to achieve node galore. I will be using Flora Nova, Liquid KoolBloom and the Dry KoolBloom. Along with sweet/molasses in the flush.
The chronic, pictured above, looks extremely weird because its off a revegged single-bladed mom, but I expect big things from this wierdo :D
Thanks for joining in PR, cheap and effective is what im all about

GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
Looks beautiful. Always love to read about a well planned micro. And I am a big fan of coco and can't really understand why anyone would use soil indoors. :P
I'll keep track of this one.

Plants are looking good nice compact nodes:thumbsup:
That yellowing scares me:( Did you over nute? You may want to do a flush if you have not already done so.
What nutes are you using?
JG

GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
I doubt that is an issue of over nuting. Rather looks the other way imho or a slight pH problem.

GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
whats up puff, thanks for joining in.. I too am a big fan of coco, IMHO it is much simpler to deal with and analyze what is going wrong, when things do go wrong
hey jerry thanks for stopping in - the yellowing scares me as well. like i mentioned they were starving for N, and I think I overdid it slightly the first feed, so I flushed, and things look to be back on track. Hard to tell since this is my first time with this type of coco and first time with these nutes.
will post a pic in the plant problem section if it doesnt clear up within a few days. I just flipped the lights, so they will be getting the FloraNova soon
ph is 5.7-6.0
Kind of confused about CALMAG. My veg nutes have CAL and MG, its a one-part complete hydro nute, so I haven't been giving it calmag. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks for the comments everyone ;)

Just a quick question if you dont mind greenatik......im in a similar situation that im going to flower in the coming days...... its been about 18 days since i cut them and they look great.....my question is did you start bloom nutes as soon as you went 12/12 or did you continue to feed veg nutes for a few days? Thanks for time ive enjoyed the grow so far! Funny my clones are in 32 oz gatorade bottles.....good luck bro!
-
GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
Your good as long as no more yellow appears and the new leaves stay a good dark green color.

Hey no problem killa, thanks for stopping in - That answer really depends on your medium IMO. My clones needed food as soon as they hit the coco because it is an inert medium. I thought that they would be fine for a few days after rooting, but they started eating their lower leaves and showed signs of being stunted almost immediately due to the lack of nutrition.
As far as giving them flower nutes as soon as the flip... What kind of nutes are you using? I am using Flora Nova, and KoolBloom Liquid (Flower starter, 10-10-0). The day I flipped, I gave a light dosing (1/6 strength) of both. All plants seemed to respond well, and 3 of my 10 clones already have new pistils forming (3 days).
Hope this answers your question bro - or at least helps, because this was my first time cloning and first time flipping at such a young age too.

Yeah Jerry, always best to look for signs of recovery in the new leaves. As I mentioned above, I am almost positive now that my lower leaves were yellowing due to lack of food.

thanks for all the feedback guys :D
come back soon :)
Sooo, if you look at the first update in this log, I have a picture of a plant, labeled GG x BG (claimed it to be my favorite), but now, I am pretty sure its white widow. I took a couple cuts off the outdoor widow and got em all mixed up. but the way its growing, much more 'spindly,' convinces me its WW. Looks identical to its mother. I am going to have to LST this one, or its going to get outta control. its already 2-3 inches taller then the rest
update prolly coming in 4-5 days
peace

Wow, those gatorade bottles are cool for this, you can see the roots and not have to guess when they are ready for a transplant! Great thinking guys! Enjoy the read and the learning!! thanx!
Plants are looking so much better!!
 pr

GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
hey thanks PR.. although I don't think transplanting out of the gatorade bottle would be an easy task. the roots are growing like crazy though and it is fun to watch. Lots of people say not to use clear containers, but I've never heard of any damage from algae that can grow. But the coco stays fairly aerated and can't imagine algae being able to grow.
and a huge correction needed due to the dank aka bickeys mr nice / purple voodoo, its only DAY 9 of flower. they are moving so much quicker then my last indoor :hippy:

I think you could just cut them with sissors, gently??
I just love um! But, I like to see it all, too!
Do you think Coco has anything to do with faster gro this time, or clear containters (lol)!! pr:hippy:

GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
This is sweet. Great little cab built on the cheap. I'm just wondering about 2 things:
1.) the clear bottles (as previously mentioned)...roots are much better off in the dark.
2.) The ventilation. You say you've got a fan exhausting the cab? Passively? i've never heard of a passive exhaust...passive intake, sure.
From your description (...1 blower exhausting, passively...My hinging door stays shut perfectly just by the suction...) i am willing to bet that you could improve your ventilation by adding a passive intake. The fact that the door is being held shut by suction says that there is an imbalance in airflow. Your fan is more than likely not running at it's full potential because it isn't able to pull new air in. Cut one or two 4" holes near the bottom of the box. Your door will probably need to be tacked shut, but i bet your fan works a lot better and your temps may even go down a bit thanks to the even exchange of air.
lookin good though. keep it up.

GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
I have 3 intakes, pvc sized holes. the blower is exhausting and the ventilation is great, 80 degrees max and the plants stay almost sideways from air movement.
A lot of people grow in clear containers with no problems, and like I said the algae will have a hard time forming in coco because of the aeration.. I don't think ill see any the whole run, but it will be interesting to find out
thanks for stopping by peoples

greenatik, it looks like you have another incredible grow on your hands here! It looks like Pilav really helped you become quite the artiste with the diagrammed drawing, eh? All of your plants look incredibly healthy, and I'm really intrigued with the styrofoam growbox - pretty flippin' ingenious, man!
Keep up the outstanding work - I look forward to dropping back in to see some sweet buds!

GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
yo whats up killa glad you like the grow -- how are you lsting w/ your gatorade bottles? kind of just used what I had on hand (metal hanger and tape) and seems to do the trick , kind of easy to confine the lsting just to the bottle space (getting cramped) :)
jake whats up man I can't wait till you build that attic box, i think youd be amazed at how easy indoor is :D coco just added the icing on the cake as far as simplicity goes
hehe, pilav was my test dummy for coco, cfls, and cramped spaces! I hope I learned enough to finish this one out without any problems :rasta:

hey thanks and welcome aboard captain
styrofoam just seemed right... I mean, it's already white, it has many insulation properties, and extremely easy to cut and modify. as well as cheap, $7.00 for a 4' x 8' sheet.
put it all together with gorilla glue and long screws ($10)
tilll next time :stoned:
