anybody worrying about hurricane gustav?
so anyone in its path? I live on the gulf coast of MS so everyone down here is freaking out because of what happened with Katrina. I mean it's been three years exactly as of august 29, which was two days ago and you are just now seeing progress with buildings being rebuilt and what not. I personally do not think ms will get too much damage, it looks like its heading west of louisiana, probably. I think it will hit somewhere between texas and louisiana but as we all know, hurricanes arent the most predictable things. Roads are jam packed with people fleeing from new orleans. I was contemplating leaving for a friends house about 3 hours away which should be a safe distance but with all the traffic they are predicting that it will take at least 6 hours to reach my destination. Its pretty ridiculous, hope everyone else is safe though.

im in gulfport. im not from around here, but it seems as though most of the locals are freaking. should be an interesting next couple of days.

nice dude, im in long beach which is like 5 minutes away from gulfport. Just came from there earlier actually. The locals are definitely freaking, everyones stocking up. gas prices have gone up 30-40 cents within the last two days, its crazy. Me? I've got my supplies, just picked up a half of some fire and a pack of rellos. I'm all set to ride this storm out in leisure lol

gustav is going to be a monster when reaching land... and if it hits a heavily populated area will cause lots of problems
in htown, I have not seen people freak out cuz of it yet, but gas prices have been bumped a few cents in just the weekend but last time i went to a grocery store all shelves were full as usual
i just hope it hits some swampland so we can get over with it, with the minimum possible damage whether in property or life... it will be a cat 3 or even a 4 by landfall

lol, family guy, ftw.
It's pretty windy and rainy outside right now. I think the worst of it was about an hour ago. No damage here, just a bunch of debris in the yard. I haven't had the news on much so I don't know how louisiana is since they actually got the worst of it. I think the eye just hit land about an hour and a half ago. The power has flickered on and off a few times and I heard some transformers explode but they must be further down the road because we still have power. We were pretty lucky i guess, its just a real nasty storm outside but it i'll be over soon. I guess today will be a good day to catch up on some reading and get FUCKING STONEDDDD, woohoo lol, shit now that i think about it, every day is a good day for that.

Full house of evacuess... 17 are here but we have 2 hotel rooms so that helps. We have been calling family living right outside New Orleans and everything seems to be going alright. Some trees down and heavy rain and winds but not the storm surge they predicted (yet). Still to early to tell though but so far so good...

I live in New Orleans, currently in Birmingham, Al staying with family. I'm damn sure worried about it, although I'm trying to stay optimistic, and the area I live in doesn't usually get too much flooding.
anybody worrying about hurricane gustav?
yeah we've got 10 people staying with us and a bunch of dogs and cats. A huge branch fell on my freaking car and ripped the bumper off, and another car got a broken rear window (we have a ton of trees in our yard) and apparently there's a small leak in the roof near one of the outside doors, but all in all i guess everything is good.

I can't understand why anyone would return to a city that they know is in constant danger of being flattened.
You are driven out by a storm or earthquake, you return to find a destroyed home and/or business. You rebuild said home/business only for another storm/earthquake to come along and destroy all your hard work yet again.
Didn't Einstein say "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results" ?
People are crazy. :D

I really take offense to this, and I hear it so often, but really, the people of New Orleans have way too much pride and love for their city to just let it be destroyed and not rebuild it. So many people, including myself have lived there for their whole lives, and there's just nowhere else like it. Everywhere I go, outside of the New Orleans tri-city area just feels different and wrong somehow.
I wouldn't call this insanity. I would just call it love. I've never seen any place where the people have as much pride in their city as New Orleans does.
Not to mention that if we didn't keep rebuilding, we would lose one of the largest most important ports in America.
Could you honestly say, that you would just abandon the only place that you can really call home?

Couldn't have said it better, New Orleans culture is something completely different from anywhere I've ever been. I mean I don't live in New Orleans, but I do live like an hour away so I've spent lots and lots of time there and its just something that you have to experience to understand why we keep rebuilding. I live in a small town on the gulf coast of ms and we were destroyed by katrina, but we rebuilt and the community bonded and became much closer than before katrina.

If it got flattened or flooded every couple of years I would have no problem relocating to somewhere where I know I'm not going to have to go through the heartache I see each time a city is devastated.
No offense meant BTW , I just find people a little bit crazy.
I wouldn't describe myself as a very emotional person and I try to take a very logical view of things , it isn't logical to me to live somewhere that throws up so many natural problems without any credible solution.
I hope for the folks involved that it all blows over (sorry :D) quickly and without too much damage but I really struggle with the logic.

I'd also like to point out that it doesn't really happen very often. Not nearly as much as some places in Florida. Before Katrina it had been a very long time since a hurricane had badly damaged the city, it's just a bad coincidence that we got another bad one after only a few years.

I guess N.O. is a bit better than certain parts of Cali with thier raging infernos.
I kind of understand what your saying . I also kind of admire the sort of spirit it takes to keep going back after disasters.

not quite what i expected. being from PA i was expecting a pretty intense storm. didnt seem to be that bad though.

some people leave, some don't. it has nothing to do with where u r talking about
and there is just far too many reasons involved in such decisions
one man can have 10 girls at a time and be 150% proud n happy about himself and his life
another man, may lose his wife and never be able to remarry any1 else ever again
most likely it comes from your personality/logic, they are bound to be together!
u cant pass judgment on them cuz u dont know their WHOLE story of lives.
thats a problem we all face ourselves too!!! how can u not see the relation?
1. u know u live in hurricane zone
2. hurricanes has killed many of your townspeople before and ruined or damaged the town a few times
3. yet u go back everytime and proudly start your life over!
1. smoking weed does have negative effects on our lungs (lets stick with this as its only proven side effect hypothetically speaking!)
2. non-smokers keep telling us not to smoke it, it can lead and may have led to diseases or death in the long run, which is partially and scientifically correct
3. yet, we toke n we do it proudly!:rastasmoke:
i know where ur comin from, true...
but u must have lived their lives in that place to see where they come from too (those that go back) and be able to pass a fair judgment
i have seen many stories of people leaving and never going back to settle after Katrina, i live in Houston, TX (FYI this was one of the major destinations for 3 years ago evacuees - 350 miles distance) and i know n see N.O. residents around here, lots n lots of them!
