Is this a problem or normal?

Plants are almost 5 weeks into flowering. Leaves are dying at the bottom of the plant (which I expected) but the top of a couple of plants are starting to wilt a little. I am still getting water drainage and my PH levels haven't changed so I don't think it is the water. Not using any nutrients other than what was in the potting soil. The plants have developed trichromes and they are still very clear and have not started to sit up on the "tee" I have read about.

My main worry is that the plants are starting to get root bound. Been about 6 weeks since my last transplant and with the plants being quite large at this stage of the game I really don't want to transplant again unless I have to.

Is it normal for the tops of the plants to start looking wilted?

I plan to flower for about another month, should I transplant?

Reading the form there, I guess the plant is getting hungry. You didn't use any fertilizers on the soil and it's not really too rich, MJ use up a lot of nutriments. Even people using soil with more fert in it add some to any some point in the grow or bloom cycle. The Ph of the water seems a little high (but the runoff seems fine...), do you correct it before feeding the plants ?

No, dont do anything, just pour it in a bottle then pour the bottle into the plant. I use old 2-liter pop bottles as my watering jugs.

I should also probably mention it is only the sugar leaves that are doing this at the top of the plant.

What is the size of the container and of the plant. Maybe it just to the full potential it has in this pot, some pictures may help us figure out something or just wait for someone with more experiences.

They are in 5 Gallon Buckets.

Normally you can get 1ft per gallon so the plant should be able to get to 5 ft without any problems... It might really be a problem of fert or something else hard to say witout any pictures. Wait for some more experiences grower to check out you're post, thay may be able to figure out something.

They need some ferts...5 weeks flowering with no ferts im surprised it took this long to shows signs of hunger...if you dont have any just find things around the house...molasses would be good...1-2 tablespoon/gal

I personally would not transplant!! A 5gal bucket should be great till harvest.It is just hard for me to imagine being root bound in 5gal unless the plant is
a year or so old.

The 8.2 ph water is way too high !!! If it is coming out at 6.8ph, you have a lot of nute buildup in the soil.

I recommend a good flush with ph adjusted water around 6.5, followed by light feeding of a quality fertilizer.

I also really hate to disagree with Weedhound on the transplant, he has such great information to share, but on this I do. Sorry Weedhound!!!

Anyone have a recommendation for a fertilizer to try? I have home depot and lowes nearby but have yet to find a good hydroponic store that will carry the designer products (ie: foxfarm line)

This is my first grow so I was trying to go without nutes as much as possible to get a base knowledge then the next crop (just started on Friday) I was going to start with something of a fertalizer set anyways, so I just need to know what to get.

That would depend on what style of growing you gonna be doing....
Soil, soil-less(coco),hydro ect...then you got Organic or non Organic....O and don't forget budget..that matters alot..

I have also noticed that the problem is only happening to the leaves that are in the shade. It is only happening at the top of the plant and is only the smallest type of leaves that are doing it.

Does this point to any particular nutrient deficiency?

Gonna head into town later today so just need to know if there is something I should be specifically looking for in a fertilizer/food source. I checked the FAQ but didnt see anything that laid out what fertilizers are best to use.

No expert here, but my 2cents. First thing I thought was wow that pH is high going in. Flush.
I had my mom rootbound in a 5gal bucket at about the same point you are, especially if you topped it and have a lot of side shoots. Transplant takes 2 people.
You should be able to get by with a bloom fert. like Schults or rapid-gro, just make sure it is a bloom fert and I would mix it at about 1/4 strength after flush.
You need to pH adjust your water or you will get lock out if you don't already.
Again, I am no expert.

Like you never feed the girl I'm sure she has a lot of deficencies... "As flowering progresses, the plantâ??s need for nitrogen diminishes. After a plant has been flowering for two or three weeks, we prefer to avoid any Nitrogen in our fertilizers. The theory is that this lets our plants use up Nitrogen reserves from the soil as they finish flowering." You should consider giving it a good part of bloom fertilizer, personnally I'm using Earth juice products as they are organic, I have the receipe for this product, but I can't really give you any information about any other type or fertilizer, you should make a search in the forum this may give you the answers you are looking for

You can certainly get rootbound in a 5 gallon pail. A rootbound plant is hard to keep watered and happy. Also, if you do not have drain holes in the SIDES of the pail, you do not have enough drainage. Drill some! That will at least buy you time, because one of the big things that harms rootbound plants is unavailabilty of oxgen to the roots.
They should have been on a steady diet of bloom ferts... get on it!
Also, if you are in a peat-based soil and have been in it 6 weeks, you may actually want to keep feeding with high pH water- you tested the RUNOFF and you get 6.8- that is CORRECT!!!! So don't change anything, but add your ferts and drainage. If you have space to re-pot, go for it.
I'd also do a good flush according to the 2nd link in my sig, adding a light feeding at the end, to get rid of any excess mineral buildup from your tap water.

Driving to a hydro store today, but all they had on their website were nutes for hydroponic plants, im growing in potting soil and perelite. Is it ok to use the hydroponic fertz on dirt?

Drilled 16 holes in the sides of the buckets(2 rings of 8 1 ring as low as I could go, the other about 1/4in higher) when I put them in there and 5 on the bottom.

Do I need more?

Sounds like good drainage so far.
It's certain that the hydro shop will also stock soil nutes. A word of caution, hydro nutes are designed to mix up at pH 6, while soil nutes if they are good quality should come in around 6.8.
Get your pH tester and a bottle each of pH up and pH down, because with that strange tap water, at some point you WILL have to deal with pH adjustments!

Good soil nutes are pure blend pro and canna terra- these are both made with ingredients that stabilize your soil pH- look for 'humic acid' or 'leonardite' as an ingredient if you have pH issues. There are lots of other choices but in your case, with high pH tap water, I'd DEFINITELY spring for a fert that has some nice organic acids in it, and they really aren't that much more expensive in the long run.

Check your pH using hydro nutes in soil... really... it's important.
