Depersonalization and occasional anxiety

Ok, the first time I smoked was an enjoyable experience, no negative side effects except for cottonmouth. The weed I smoked then was almost certainly a different strain, and it was in joint form, not bud; which i smoke now.

Now, when I smoke I get Depersonalization so it's like I'm having fun, but I'm not there to enjoy the fun. I sometimes get anxiety/paranoia when I smoke, but I fixed this by not smoking so much.

Do I just need to get used to being high? Do any of you feel like your not "there" when your high?

Maybe there is a strain that doesn't Depersonalize you as much.

Other than that I have no complaints about pot.

Did you try it with your best friends? When i smoke with them, i can laugh for hours upon hours over simple stuff which makes feel amazing and feeling good feeling. I never had a state of not being there though, im always free fallin though :rastasmoke:

I have found that the more i think about how high i am, the more paranoid i become. You need to keep yourself occupied. Maybe toke with some friends, listen to some relaxing music, and generally have that positive attitude before you start blazing up. I have also found that some tokers are worried about the paranoia effects even while thier stoned, and as result, they get paranoid. Remember, Just think POSITIVE, and enjoy the buzz. It's not as though pot is gonna kill you.

I tried exercising while high today (i rode my bike) and it made the high alot better, not as much Depersonalization. It's mostly the "not being there" feeling that bugs me, cause I can't enjoy the effects as much.

I am "learning" to combat the DP with positive thoughts, and getting used to being high. But I guess it will take time :)

I have occasional paranoid thoughts, but they don't bother me as much as the Depersonalization.

PErsonally I find i get more paranoia with heavy indica strains, I find a nice cerebral Sativa or a Hybrid like NYC Diesel to work well in social environments.

Well... im sure the strain you smoke has a great influence in the effects you get. Sativas are well known to cause anxiety and even pannic attacks in inexperienced users. Yet indicas are very relaxing, calming and are used to treat anxiety. So try to find the best strain for you.
And i know very well what you mean about despersonalization. It feels like you were "outside" you, like if you were controlling your body as if it were a robot, not "you", dont?
Well... while it may be not very nice when you wants to enjoy the high, it surely has a LOT af advantages (at least for me). I love being it this detached state, cause i can always keep my mind cool, without being influenced by anything, as it is "separated" from the body. It was a GREAT help when i was a teacher, cause im VERY shy, but as i was "outside" me, i could relax, cause "i" wasnt there, giving the lectures, i was only someone who was controlling a body at distance, so i hadnt anything to fear... and thus i was able to give excellent lectures, cause my mind was always cool and could think the best thing to say, without any shyness of anything like this. And my pupils just loved me! Also, being in this state allows me to always be a very good person to talk to, because i always know what to say, when to talk and when to listen, because im not involved by the talk, but only controlling my body that is, and so i can have a clearer view... also i can decieve almost anybody, because i can make my body act like if it actually were thinking and feeling what i command it to... also, its a GREAT help whenever i had problems, because i would enter in this state and "step outside" me and view the problems from an outsider view, that is far more unbiased and right, and so i could think about the problems without being too much involved in them, so i could take the best, more rational and cool minded decisions.
So, i think this state can be very useful if you learn how to benefit by it... so good luck and keep smoking! :thumbsup::rastasmoke:

depersonalization rules. I miss the days when weed affected me that way.

sitting there inside my head, observing myself do stuff, looking out through my eyes.

Couldn't interact with my environment directly. But yet I could if I sent a command to myself to tell myself to do something. Being in control of yourself in a 3rd person perspective... but you're still there inside your head. I really miss it.

When I smoke I get to go through doors that aren't open during my sober times. I always say it's all in your head, and that's where I like to be most of the time. For myself, pot is almost a neccessity at times. It cures my stomach pains that prevent me from eating as well as numbs the pains that one gets used to having. Since I started smoking I don't take as many things for granted, perhaps it's just that first time when you actually see things in a different light.

Well, i had one of my revelations that I get when I'm high, and I realized to enjoy the high, you simply have to enjoy it.

For as much as I love smoking marijuana and being high I will not smoke around other people who are not smoking. The paranoia is the only negative side cannabis gives me and if Im around a bunch of non-smokers even if theyre friends, and Im high, I am paranoid. Sometimes if Im alone and am worried about something getting high can make me worry more, those are the only negatives I have getting high.

1. pot, is not enjoyable for everyone, perhaps those who outlawed it, freaked out the 1st n only time they smoked!

3. switch strains, u r perhaps smoking the more sativa type and thus your mind overheating on the paranoia issue, if it helps u can have cheap mexican dirt mixed with your good stuff to lower intensity while keeping the volume, i for one used to smoke only swisha sweets and i couldnt smoke it str8 exotic the same way as i used to get my schwag in there... so i would literally use the good stuff to spice up the volume and still manage to get a smooth high... used to call them rillios "Abum"s only problem was the smell and the taste, but i didnt care!

i was once taken to ER and still am payin for my 5k bill
all cuz i smoked some really potent stuff str8 in a bong after months of not smoking anything and i got my heart beat reaching 200 bpm, simply i felt im dying of a heart attack or somethin, PreTTTTTy paranoid at that point...

called 911, went to ER and got checked, scanned n everything and finally the doc comez out n says: U R HEALTHY AS A HORSE!! while i was still in the haze of the bud i smoked hahaha so i figured that was purely just paranoia and i learned its signs and now i just ignore them

when the extreme part happens once and u survive, the paranoia wont hurt that much, all u need to do is not to think about it, dont even acknowledge it:pimp:

yeah, as you smoke more your high diminishes in a way, cause tolerance builds up. And what is there to be paranoid about, if you think something will get you, it will get you 3x as hard when your high. And as for depersonalization, smoke with people, they will keep you in your head, when you are left to think your mind drifts, and in your high state dont realize it, but have become rather self aware of yourself. when other people are there, you are made to focus on conversation, or activity, stimulating regions of your brain that distract you from that which concerns you. a small group of token friends is what you need, 2-4 people all chilling and smoking is a great way to relax a day away.

oh, and as for paranoia, ive only been paranoid a handful of times in the past year, and most of them revolve being at work high, i didnt realize how high i was until i got to work and realized my eyes were squinty and bloodshot, so i said something about allergies, and the other times were when i was forced to be around adults who didnt know i was high, and was trying to avoid eye contact, because that would have been a dead giveaway. Just dont think about it, your making it worse. If your gonna be high, why worry, if you can't afford to be high at the moment, you should not have smoked in the first place, and if anyone wants to create a scene, tell them that it is their problem that they have a problem with you being high.

I'm getting used to it, last night was one of the best times I have had high! Almost no anxiety (except after walking around, heart started beating and I focused on it) and no paranoia. Depersonalization wasn't very noticable.

i think i know what you're talking about. it used to happen to me until i realized that i just had a low fucking tolerance. it's almost like life becomes a story and you don't feel like yourself anymore. like everythings been replaced with replicas
anyways after being sober for a year and smoking again, i now know that i was just smoking more than my mind could handle at the time. take more time between hits n see how u feel, don't rush it.
when you're nicely stoned you should still be in reality. when you're too stoned you get that weird feeling of depersonalization

the more often you get nicely stoned :bigsmoke:and not TOO stoned:joint1:

the more this side effect will go away

That used to happen to me really bad like to the point of pacing back and forth splashing cold water in my face, still even then id rather be high than not. You gotta stay in ur own mind like for me im thinking about what other ppl are thinking about me but if u think about it thats impossible to correctly judge so all u gotta do is realize is its pointless and do ur own thing.
