What is the key to happiness?
IMO, Forgiveness is the key to happiness. For everything that we don't forgive, we are going to re-experience it is some form until we do. In a passage from A Course in Miracles it says:
"Consider the Kingdom which you have made, and judge its worth fairly. Is it worthy to be a home for a Child of God? Does it protect his peace, and shine love upon him? Does it keep his heart untouched by fear, and allow him to give always without any sense of loss? Does it teach him that this giving is his joy, and that God Himself thanks him for his giving?" -A Course In Miracles.
Isn't this hell on earth we have created just a dream, flawed perceptions, misconceptions, fear, blame, where salvation is the body and death is its god.
Heaven and Hell are at our command based on what we want to be true. If we believe the body is true, then there is great suffering at its loss. If spirit be true, then the world will transform before your eyes through complete forgiveness. There can be no exception. Complete forgiveness of self and everyone and everything is bliss and our original state of pure love. God bless you, each and everyone. Happy.

What is the key to happiness?
The key to happiness is NOT looking for it. Stop trying. Live your life the way you want to live and don't let others tell you what to do, and it'll come to you.

What is the key to happiness?
I think that happiness is our true inner state and whenever we are unhappy it is because we have become so attached to something outside of ourselves or make judgements and claim we possess the truth, we are just covering up that eternal inner light.

What is the key to happiness?
Money, money and uh, money.
But seriously, sex is the key to happiness.
Have enough fantastic sex with someone you deeply love and adore and for the entire time your naked you will feel pure and utter happiness. What I'm trying to say is that a close, unshakable connection with another human being is perfection.

What is the key to happiness?
Thanks Rebgirl420,
I agree with you to the extent that we cannot be an island in this world and be happy. I like to think that perfect happiness is the realization of perfect oneness with all creation and everyone in it. How can we separate ourselves from a part of all there is and pretend there is no conflict? Separation is in the mind of the beholder. I am glad that you have someone to love and care for Rebgirl but if we seek outside of ourselves for perfect happiness then one day we experience the loss of what we thought was salvation. This is inevitable in this world where everything changes at a whim and happiness seems like a gamble with bad odds. Even special relationships will change and that terror of loss will force us once again to ask ourselves the question "What is the key to happiness?" True, lasting and perfect peace is always available if we but realize where it can be found. Through Forgiving yourself and every grievance that you may have thought was so important to hold on to, you free yourself to experience reality as it is and not as we expect it to be. I am glad happiness waits patiently for me who has been hell bent on avoiding it.

Happiness is not a lock, therefore it has no key.
What is happiness the key to? ask yourself that now, instead.

What is the key to happiness?
Thanks SSW,
thats a very good point. It comes back to the idea that the state of happiness inherently changes as you attempt to observe it and categorize it. By that time you are out of a state of peace because you believe that happiness is where you are not but somewhere where it can be observed but it can only be what it is. But I believe there is a true state of grace that makes you invulnerable to everything you think has power over you. Thanks, Happy.

yeah.. I'll take money... that'll buy all the sex I need... ;)

What is the key to happiness?
And when the money goes? I'm not trying to be preachy, don't get me wrong. I like money and sex too, believe me. But these things become like gods to us where our hope of salvation lies. When they go, and they will eventually, we will struggle to find our Identity once again. Religion also can become self serving and the hope of salvation stems from the belief that you are morally and spiritually superior than other religions and other people. I don't think its any different than any other idol we worship because it is ego based ideology, but it is not necessarily what reflects the Mind of God IMHO. Thanks

What is the key to happiness?
Love and knowlege.
Simply stated all happiness springs from these roots.
The two have to used as one unified concept though.
Live your life with a love of knowlege and a knowlege of love and you can be happy.

What is the key to happiness?
GIVING...pay no attention to the giver(yourself). Whether you are giving smiles, forgiveness, or trust, its all an offering of what you have, to others.
Entitlement is a figment of the imagination and ego, and prevents giving.

Yep, that pretty much sums up why I'm miserable. Some people have even told me I'm "lucky" to be single, spending my whole life completely alone. Oh yeah, I dance a jig over it every day.

But only while it lasts... which is a very short amount of time, in fact.

Well... the solitude only is properly enjoyed after one experienced the companionship, and learned how its only more transient and illusory attachement... ive been there... when i was young i was very lonely and felt sad because of this... then i had a relationship and lived the good and the bad parts of it... then, as everything else in this life, it ended. After this, i summed the good parts and the bad parts, and noticed that i was indeed happier when i was alone. But only after have passed throught the entire process i could judge properly and unbiasedly the merits and drawbacks of the solitude and of the companionship.

Thanks allrollsin21. Its a complete turnaround to think this way but I agree it leads to happiness. What makes me happy is to make someone else happy. I wish I lived my life more like this, but I can be very self serving. Self serving out of fear of losing the little I thought was so important. The older I get I realize I was wrong about what I really wanted in my life. Purpose, love, passion for others, abundance and ultimately peace and serenity are the gifts that keep on giving.

What is the key to happiness?
Happiness is an illusion, we are unhappy when we realize we do not have what we want. We become 'happy' by living our lives the way we want to. The more you search for 'happiness' the further away you become from it.
Thats my take on it anyways
-
What is the key to happiness?
Not that I've found it but my idea to acheiving happiness is being at peace with yourself
and forgiving whoever has done wrong to you.
Cause thinking about the bad things, even if not all the time can ruin you iMo.

Knowledge, as something that is or may be known, does not exist for we can only know our perceptions, but we cannot know if our perceptions are true. therefore, in place of "knowledge" i say "awareness".
Awareness and love are the roots.

Personal preferences. Happiness is subjective and is the only thing desirable in itself.

Well... even if im aware that i should give a more phylosophical, metaphysical or whatever reply (as its the usual), i must be honest, so IMHO, the key for happiness is a drop of hash oil... :stoned: it is indeed... :rastasmoke::jointsmile::D

I second this. Being around a woman that you feel connected to not only sexually, but also mentally is a very fulfilling thing. Women just have a way of making you feel wonderful.

Approaching the darkness of the nights shelter with the lights of tomorrow being right at the end of the tunnel.
This is my altercation of total happiness always look forward to tomorrow but apriciate the history wether good or bad. Cause we all saw the history books of history repeating it self.
And you dont even have to believe in God to apply my theory though it can be applied if felt needed, please have a nice day and remember to look forward to in the day to come.

the key to happiness is having comfortable pillows.
-
What is the key to happiness?
Low expectations.
Haha just kidding.
It's finding something positive, even if it's just a life lesson, in even bad situations- putting your own spin on things so that you see how experiences have helped you grow. It's placing value on things of substance, rather than material goods. And most of all, it's knowing that every day you are becoming a little better and a little more comfortable with who you are inside!

Happiness is peace of mind, fulfillment and love. I believe love is Truth and the Truth has no opposite. Only what is True is True and nothing else is True. You can't change Truth and you can't destroy it. You are Truth and so am I. Love is Truth, God is Truth, eternal. Sadness results from the inevitable failure of our illusions to bring us fulfillment. If we believe in death and meaninglessness of existence, we are still believing and placing our faith in something. It feels more sane to me to put my faith in a Creator who is only loving and who is not condemning at all.

Everything has an opposite.
Truth - Lie
Up - Down
It's about finding a balance.

Thanks Psychocat,
IMHO, Truth cannot have an opposite because what is not the Truth does not really exist. No one can find a balance between reality and non-reality. We can only give credibility to our senses and our limited perceptions. Reality exists and has no opposite because nothing can exist outside of all there is. This idea may require some faith but I think it holds up logically. If you agree, consider what that means for a moment. It simply means my friend that you are the truth and cannot die, you are as you were created, perfect, you are not a body. Your imaginings about who you think you are are illusions and are false. Forgive me if I seem pushy and too far out but no thought you have about yourself give the slightest realization of your true worth and holiness and the love and joy that awaits you. I can only know such holiness in myself if I can see it in everyone. That is my goal. Thanks for listening. God bless. Happy.

What is the key to happiness?
i would say generally happiness is achieving what u wanna achieve in life... not just material, but what u really wanna be in life, if thats achieved, u will be happy, even if u r standing with a noose on your neck spending your last minutes of life for any reason!
but even @ this stage, i have a question: How can u be happy and sleep well knowing that kids in africa, your kind, human beings, are dying from undernourishment on daily basis?
not to make it a political point or anything... but i think true happyness cannot be achieved until u have done your best for improving of the world u live in and lives of other people and can say i did what i could when u look @ your life
I had a psychology class, and our teacher said a cool thing, she said when she gives advice to people who are always mad or depressed or always whining, she tells them "for one day, be nice to people, help them, try to make some1 else happy, any way u can" and analyze and compare your day at the end to your average day

Im with stinky on this one.
Ying and Yang is the perfect excample, and the theory of Ying and Yang claims that good cannnot exist without evil as evil resides inside all good to make up the balance.
