Anyone else have a shitload of these in their basement? There are alot where I live and just wondering if they will bother the plants at all? On the net it says they eat mold, book binding glue and wallpaper glue.. just trying to plan for any type of pest infestation that may happen.. thanks.
Why let them stick around...? If you've got bugs, get rid of 'em. Eliminates all worry.

well its just that they are in the basement and there are quite a few of them around and they outside so getting rid of them wouldn't be possible but im going to do a sealed grow box so hopefully that will keep them out?
anyone else know what i should do about them?
A sealed box won't keep them out. They'll find a way, lol.
Dehumidify. Take away their food source (=mold). Pyrethrin bomb, using a product meant for in-home use.
thanks.. the thing is that the basement is a concrete ledge with cinderblocks so there is exposed dirt between the ledge and the cinderblocks where the silverfish and humidity crawl in (as well as a sump pit which i am working on closing up soon)... and there are tons of them outside... ill fumigate for the thrips and buy a dehumidifier as well (what humidity do you recommend?) and hopefully this will work for me.
but if some silverfish get in is it likely they will harm the crop or just be more of a gross nusicanse to me? (i hate them they looks so wierd)

How to Get Rid of Silverfish
I've read that any humidity over ~50-60% is not optimal. Although, I have not experimented enough to know the effectiveness of a particular RH. In my understanding, the main problem with high humidity is the potential for mold or bud rot during flowering. From what I quickly read, Silverfish thrive on water and humidity... so dropping that is crucial. I also believe that any plant material is a key staple of the Silverfish diet. Get rid of them lil' Busters!!

ahhhhhhhhh thanks soooo much... i think i have a firebrat problem actually since they arent actuallly silver but gosh i hate these things they are so disgusting.. im going toget a dehumidifier and do all i can to rid this problem thakns
well really i not 100% sure what they are my friend called them silverfish i called them annoying maybe ill try posting a pic on a insect forum or soemthing
Really this does not sound good but if what you are saying is as bad as it seems maybe clean the house a bit more often? Just a thought because if I had bugs in my house I would have to find my Girl and Kids because she would leave if they did not... I know their are common bugs in certain parts of the country but can you not spray around you foundation or something? Yeah I think you are talking about what we call 'gutters' here on the other side of the pond... Get them cleaned out and you will be shocked how much drier the basement is!
Any place you find leaky pipes, really clean out any dirt or debris under the spot they are leaking so even if it's wet, it dries faster, and nothing is sitting there rotting. And of course mend them asap!
Lemme tell ya .... I am an exterminator by day 'dro grower by nite..hehe. Seriously tho, silverfish won't hurt your plant at all. They will only eat on cloth, paper, and some types of glue. They are not a plant feeder. I do recommend ordering some niban fg bait which i'm sure you can find on the internet. All you have to do is get some niban fg and sprinkle it in and around any infested boxes, in corners, closets, and for sure make sure you bait the attic as well... considering that silverfish spend a great time in walls and attic spaces and they only tend to feed once every couple of weeks. Also bait around all plumbing areas! These areas are critical! Silverfish LOVE humid areas! The pyrethrin foggers will only kill what is out in the open but if you bait them... you will kill far more. Hope this helps... trust me on this, this is what I do for a living!
Also, niban fg is moisture resistent which means it will still be good if it gets wet. here is a link to where you can order some if you don't feel like lookin around. :)

cool thanks so much for the info... i think they are firebrats though but everywhere i read its same method to get rid of them... i cleaned out the eves trough/gutters (yeah they called gutters here too sometimes i believe) and there were TONS of them (which i got enough courage to squish them in my hands the best I could, with gloves on of course..) I swept up a bunch of loose leaf and grass debris around the house and surprise tons more so i got out the raid and sprayed these areas and will order some of that stuff if i cant find it here.. well its good to know they wont eat plants but damn i just want to get rid of them they creep me out.. thanks again for all the help

want to gladden you. I have a silverfish issue at my student residences and i've caught 6-7 of them into a bottle and put some Rizla there for them to eat. They've been living fine for about a week greedily consuming the paper. Yesterday I got high and decided to put some bits of cannabis leaves and some pollen inside.. prob wanted them to get stoned as well =]]]
well today i've found two of them lying dead on their back and one hardly moving (they might be just extremely high, but less likely...)
So I can assure you that silverfish wont harm your plants but getting rid of them wont be a bad idea anyway :)))
