Seven to ten days, in soil. I use Rootech (gel) or Take Root (powder). Use sparingly for any rooting hormone you use, and keep soil out of the jar. (ie: avoid contamination) No nutes for about 3 weeks or so.
I don't use 'em, but have heard that rockwool plugs or cubes have an inherent ph problem, and have heard it's best to rinse them well with ph'd water before use.
thanks for the input, just getting worried cause its been about 10 days and no roots showing. original leaves are droopy as hell, but do have some new growth out of the tops, even those are looking a little droopy. misting the dome everyday and even misting plants once in awhile. guess i'll just wait and see what happens.
Keep soil moist, not wet. Too wet and you risk bacteria and mold.
Try not to spray the clonelings, but provide humidity. Spraying clonedome cover works.
No full-strength lights till rooted. (place further from bulb)
Patience.
thanks Rusty. I'm using a 200 watt cfl with future brite hood and electronic ballast built in, have it bout 5 to 6 inches above dome. think i should move light further away?
Keep it as close as possible without burning. But if it's too warm for the back of your hand, it's too warm for the ladies.
thanks again rusty
Mine Root up in 5-7 days but I use the EZ. If you are need of lots of cuttings the EZ is the way to go...
Good Luck W/ The NEW Cuttings GL
That light may be to intense for them. You don't need a lot of light for clones. If they have too much light then they get lazy and won't try as hard to grow roots and survive on their own. They might eventually grow roots after 2 weeks or so, but they might be to far down hill by then. One thing that really helped my clone success rate was buying a heat pad and a thermostat and set it to 82f. I also have one of the real tall domes and it has 2 little adjustable vents on top to let fresh air in. If you uses a heat pad you want to open each vent 1/4 turn. I root all my clones in Botinicare Grow plugs and use Dip n Grow and I had roots in 5 days on a few, and the rest started to root in 7-10 days with a few stragglers taking 14 days. I used a 2 ft t8 light with 2 18w bulbs that seemed to be perfect for cloning. The first few times i tried cloning i used my 216 watt T5 and they all took over 2 weeks to root some took over 3 weeks. Just my 2 cents...
Good luck
thanks guys
is it possible to take clones and root them in small pots or rockwool outside? when it rains will they be damaged?
Id worry more about intense sunlight, insects, mold spores, and temperature swings outdoors. It's not a great environment for cloning. Try a spare closet with a CFL in it and a prop dome.
yeah thats what i figured, how big a CFL would you recommend for probably 5-8 clones and what would be the best rooting medium?
A small CFL is fine, as long as it is blue light. 'Daylight' or 'cool white'.
Try RapidRooters and dip-n-grow under a prop dome. There's instructions linked in my siggy.
I only used a 23w cfl for mine usually put 5-6 under that. Worked fine for me. I'm a soil guy so I couldnt tell you how long it takes mine to root. I'd guess 7-10 maybe less. But after 2 weeks they take off. Only lost 3 out of about 30, but it was my own fault.
thanks for the advice
I've had my CFL on 24/7. Do you think I need to go 18/6? Will this make them root faster? Still no roots coming out of the root plugs but new growth on all the clones. Am I just being to impatient?
I just use a good potting soil, root powder and 8 cfl's for my cloning. They take about 2 weeks to put new growth on top. ABout 90% sucess rate.
i use jiffy pellets soaked in 1/2 strength FF week 1 nutes...I use olivas cloning gel and 2 - 15w daylight cfl on 24/7...im sure they are rooted in 4-5 days..i get roots coming out of the jiffy pellets from 7-9 days total. I use a dome also....i leave it on for 2 days straight....then remove it everyday for a few minutes till day 5 then i start taking it off for a few hours at a time. By day 7-8 the dome is completely off. By day 10 they are ready to be transplanted.
damn, my clones have been going for 11 days and no roots popping out. like i said vertical growth on all. maybe watered them too much at the start? if they make it, next time i will get a few small cfl's for cloning.
i use rottech its an orange gel works great and i soak rockwool in phd olivias clone solution 50 -60 clones under 100 w i like peats but the rock is more convienient for me takes about five days for roots to show then another week abouts for webbing then straight into flower two months later a little 8- 12 inch stem with about 4g dried and cured (D.O.S.)
just checked on clones, and the new growth on two of them are sprouting 5 leaves, is this a good thing? probably dumb question, cause i'm sure it is a good thing, lol.
Any new growth is good. Most people I think make the mistake of over watering clones. Its a lot like starting seeds in soil. Just keep it moist. I use a squirt bottle for the first 2 weeks and just mist the soil 3 or 4 times day.
If your clones are sprouting new growth before rooting, they have too much light and too much access to Nitrogen. You want the part above the soil to remain dormant, as the plant diverts energy to rooting.
do you think i should kill the lights for a day? and i dont know where they would be getting the nitrogen, have them in rapid rooters and watering with ro
They actually take nitrogen from their lower leaves and use it for new growth. Leave the lights ON, but put them a bit further away.
You can water with tap water, but with rapidrooters you know you are not supposed to water them at all? The way they are sold in the packets is EXACTLY the moisture you would like to maintain. Too wet, and the root zone can get no oxygen, and clones will fail. If they start appearing paler, or FEEL dry, you can give each one just a FEW DROPS of tap water to re-hydrate.
damn, what would I do without you guys. okay, will not water them anymore and i moved them under a regular lightbulb, will this work?
HELL YEAH! finally, after waiting over 2 weeks two of my four clones had a root sticking out of plug. Thanks to everyone who helped out, guess it was too much light and water at first. What do you expect, i'm a noob
