Need help growing, always encounter the same problem... PICTURE!

Hey there.

I am interested in growing but in my dozens of attempts I always have the same problem. I have tried researching it, but with my lack of plant knowlege I can not find an answer. I am hoping someone can help me. I made a paint picture because I do not know how to describe it...

The seed begins to grow, and about 4-7 days later, the plant becomes so tall it can't support its weight (I'm guessing) and bends/breaks over. It then shrivels up and dies.

any advice?

I would be guessing you are using the wrong lights?

Could be damping off. It is a fungus that attacks the plant at the soil's surface. I've heard that a light sprinkling of ground cinnamon has anti-fungal properties.
What is your lighting setup?

Not enough light
Light too far away
Way too wet
Not enough air flow
Wrong type of light
Not using fresh sterile soil

Other then that before they fall over re-pot them. Hopefully in good soil. Then bury the plant down to the first set of leaves (cotyledons) this way it can be supported better. Same thing happened to me when i was playing around a year ago.

stop over watering and maybe use a stake?? toothpik?? so it wont fall over

Transplant and bury it down so the tops are showing and get a fan going on it to strengthen it up... Only leave 2''3'' inches out of a four inch pot Fans are important....

Thanks guys! I don't think the soil is the problem or the light for this problem, because I have tried outside, inside, under black lights, under natural day lights, and in different types of soils.

I'll try the tooth pick and transplanting leaving only the 2 leaves above.

Greenleaf said it right.

When the little one sprouts and begins it's upward growth, it can get really tall.
Transplant and put ti deep into the soil so the first set of leaves are just above the soil.
Have a fan in the space blowing lightly over the plant to strengthen the stem.

Try again.

Either that, or start the seeds in a cup that's half full of soil. When the seedling stretches, and reaches the top of the cup, instead of transplanting...leave them in the cup and carefully bury them up to the cotlydons. (the first set of leaves) Leave room for future waterings, and keep a fan on 'em.

Using a stake makes the plant dependant on external support, and is a bitch to train them off of it. The problem get's compounded during pre-flower stretch and when buds fill out.

With the pix below, I started-out with a bit too much soil to start the seedling, but it shows the general concept.

Black Lights are a no no =] , Lighting should be 6500k for veg and 2700k for flowering. K standing for Kelvin if im correct and the amount of lumens. Depending on lighting could stretch them too if they are too high from plant. Also couldn't it be from no putting seed far enough down ? If its a reaccuring thing. This is all my opinion i could be wrong and probably am hah
