Northern California - Small Rooftop Grow
i planted 4 seeds on 4/20 and 8 more the weekend after. the first seeds that were planted all sprouted and kept a healty look, so i kept them all. out of the eight that were planted the next weekend, 6 sprouted, but one looked deformed, so i decided to just get rid of that one early.
if you notice, there are two plants that have been topped, and here is the story behind that... i was planning on moving the plants to an easier location, so its less work to water them and keep up with them. so i decided to move them to a nearby hillside that nobody ever goes to. midway through the day, i realized i didnt fence them in at all, and immediately went back to do so. when i got there, three of the plants have already been chomped on by deer! two were left with leaves, but one was eaten all the way to the bottom of the stem. i thew away the completely gone one, and just continued watering the other two. its funny how well the deer topped it, while just trying to get some grub for themselves, haha.
so its been about two months since they sprouted, and im quite happy with how they are looking. i decided to keep them in small containers, in hopes to keep them small and not visible to the public...does anyone know if this would work? the four i planted on 4/20 are Grape Ape X Northern Lights, and the others are an unknown strain i got from a friend. i started them on nutrients about a week ago, and since then they have just been taking off! the leaves are nice and green, and no longer droopy. ive noticed a tiny bit of burning on the tips of some leaves, so i keep using a little bit less nutrients everyday until there is no more signs of nute burns.
i got to run now, but i hope you all enjoy my new grow log that is starting, and any input of any kind is welcome and appreciated.

You look like you did a real good job so far with your plants. Really excellent growth you've got there. Just make sure that you don't over fertilize because what you've got going right is certainly working. Keep posting and check out my thread I just started too. Oh and by the way what type of soil mixture did you use as of now?

looking good, you should transplant soon

is there any bad effects the plants will endure if not transplanted? as i said in the beginning of the thread, i want to keep them in the small containers, in hope that the plants will not grow too big, and be in clear view of the public, as they are being grown on my roof in a highly populated suburban neighborhood. all my neighbors on have clear views of my babies, but its not them im worried about, because i have a completely legal setup with under the amount of plants i am legally able to grow. im more worried about kids seeing them and trying to take them.
any response to this will be appreciated

ahh i understand your problem.
problems from not transplanting....no space to grow and mature. you should be giving your plant one gallon of soil per foot of plant, keep in mind your plant will double if not triple its size during flowering....hence the bigger pot container.
BUT, is it worth the risk to try and grow your plants and not produce much bud because the roots didnt have space to grow....or since your already taking the risk growing upgrade to a slighty bigger container..........3 gallon would be alright, 5 gallon would be great. you can bend your plants and (or) tie them down. seach for LST around here if you dont know what it is.
if they are already in plain view sight for the neighbors why not amaze them with a bigger plant?

^^^^ i appreciate the time your taking to help me out here. i understand what your saying, so i'll try transplanting them as soon as possible. im thinking of just planting them in the ground at a nearby hillside, and fencing them in to keep these damn deer away from killing my ENTIRE crop this time, lol. thanks for the advice, and i'll keep ya'll posted when i make the changes.

sounds good........your idea of planting in the ground is better than my idea.
-
Northern California - Small Rooftop Grow
The idea of planting in the ground sounds best. I wonder, if you keep the plants going you know the strains of and cut down to just those plants, your yiels might be greater than keeping all of the plants. But, I hear the yield form the ground is so much better you wonder why you didn't grown in the ground to begin with!
Good luck and will keep looking to find results!

i havent been able to take pictures lately, but will update within the next couple of days.
i dont think i quite understand your statement. how do you mean it will be a bigger yield by cutting down the ones i dont know what strain they are? dont get me wrong, im all ears for anyone pitching in their advice, so please, elaborate. i am open to any ideas that will make my yield better and more rewarding come october.

heres a few pictures of them right before i planted some in the ground. im not expecting to be able to go through the whole season and still hold on to these, but i guess i'll just keep tending to them before the deer kill them all. i have nothing to keep them covered from deer, so i guess theres nothing i can do. whatever, fuck it...just another reminder to me of how much this world sucks.

i cant tell, but the picture of the topped plant, does it look like its stretching? it seems a little long, with not many internodes in between...maybe not? i dunno
-
Northern California - Small Rooftop Grow
i transplanted a couple of them a few days ago. one went into the ground, and one went into a very large wooden container. the one that went into the ground was already topped by deer, so we'll see how that goes. enjoy

Northern California - Small Rooftop Grow
heres a little update...pictures were taken today. i uprooted the plant i had in the ground, because i realized it was one of the plants i dont know the strain of, so i switched it with the healthiest NL x GrapeApe i had, and both seem to be uneffectd by the transplanting, which i was surprised at. so here they are, and enjoy. and i would appreciate any advice anyone has for when to start using the bloom nutrients. is it the end of this month? or mid august? any answers would be great.

some of my plants have begun to show asymmetrical sprouting at the internodes. doesnt this only occur when the days get shorter as they go into flowering? just wondering what this means, because i thought they had a bit longer till they started flowering. any help would be cool
:rastasmoke::rastasmoke::rastasmoke:

Northern California - Small Rooftop Grow
heres another update with some pictures. i asked earlier what the asymmetrical sprouting meant without going into flowering yet, but i noticed the topped plant has just show its sex today...and its FEMALE! such a relief to know the plant ive been putting the most effort into has returned the favor as showing pistils. hopefully she will yield a good amount.
does anyone know if this means i should start on the flowering nutrients now? if so, should i flush out the soil first? or just go straight to bloom nutes tomorrow? any help would be cool, cuz this is the only part im not too sure on.
i'll return with better quality photos you'll be able to zoom in on and see the beginning of the flowers.

I'm in the same boat. :D
I would guess waiting another 2-4 weeks before doing bloom nutes, whenever it actually starts budding. Just a half ass "educated" guess.

Northern California - Small Rooftop Grow
thanks for a reply guerilla..seems like nobody throws in any advice anymore.
im using general hydroponics FLORA nutrients, and on the bottle it has a category for "transition to bloom phase", so i'm guessing i should start using the bloom nutes today...i think??? i mean, im sure it wont harm the plant if i start using it a little too early. so i'll start on bloom today, and see how the plants react.
i'll update with pictures in a bit.
:rastasmoke::rastasmoke::rastasmoke:
-

i chickened out and didnt start on the bloom yet, haha. i'll take your advice guerilla and wait a couple weeks until they actually get past preflowers, and start to bud.

thanks for the input. i'll start them off tomorrow with the amount stated for the "transition to bloom phase". how long until you think i should use a higher dosage as stated on the bottle for the "blooming and ripening stage"? the strain is Grape Ape x Norther Lights #5, so im guessing it will be done flowering in about 55 to 60 days, so i want to get as early of a jump on the bloom nutes as i can.

Northern California - Small Rooftop Grow
so i had an unexpected visitor leave my house about 20 minutes ago. i was walking to the kitchen when my mom says "why is there a cop in front of our house?", and when i go outside he is walking towards the side of my house where some of my plants are, so i go back inside and wait for him to come up to the door. my mom answers the front door, and the cop immediately asks "is someone growing marijuana on this property?". i walk up to the door and tell him it is mine, and i go to get my paperwork. i show him everything, give him my ID, and he calls in my number to dispatch. he starts asking me if i know the regulations of it, and i say i do. so he starts questioning me, and i answer everything to the best of my knowledge. so for about 10-15 minutes the cop, my mother, and myself are having a conversation about the rules and regulations of marijuana cultivation in the county.
in all, this was a great experience, because i was finally able to inform my parents on the subject, that they never wanted to sit down and have a normal conversation about.
so here is an update of one of the plants, and you can see the preflowers on the fourth picture.
enjoy

so what was his problem or did he just want to talk about the county regulations?
Hehe... most of the county cops here wouldn't know a live cannabis plant if it hit them square in the face.

he actually was responding to a call from my neighbors. i love the fact that they called the cops, and no less than fifteen minutes after the pig left, they watched me move my plants from the side of my house to the backyard fence that borders there house. i love the spite

Now maybe they'll call the DEA or some other federal agency. *shrug*

i dunno. they are more likely to go after people growing for selling purposes. plus the fact if how small the whole grow is...just doesnt seem likely to me

im looking to start up my first indoor batch, and just wondering if anyone know if any seedbanks ship to California. i know i could easily go to a dispensary in San Fran to get some lowryders, or sensi seeds, but they charge wayyy too much, and the online prices directly from the company are much more reasonable. does anyone know if they do?
-
Northern California - Small Rooftop Grow
most will ship where ever.
rhinoseeds is the cheapest I think.

^^^thanks for the input. i ordered a 10 pack of Blueberry from Dutch Passion. total was $75, and by the pictures and info, it definitely looks worth the cash. cant wait to start a few of those babies when they get in

I charge 10% of your harvest as a finder's fee :p
Make some Blueberry x G13 Haze crosses :)
With buying seeds from a foreign country as with anything that comes in via the mail you're risking a chance that US Customs may or may not examine your package and find illegal contriband.
-
Northern California - Small Rooftop Grow
does anyone know when flowering officially starts for northern california? im sure its not long away, just wondering so i know when to use full bloom nutes, instead of only a little in the "transition to flowering" stage as labeled on the nutrient container.

haha, feel free to visit when the harvest is done and get super stoned.
as with Customs, that sucks, but im sure the company wont just send them looking like seeds. ive heard of people recieving thier seeds in ballpoint pens casing, among other weird things. but all i can do from here is keep my fingers crossed, hoping all will be well.
so why do you say cross with G13? just a particular favorite of yours? or is it know to produce great offspring?

G13 from lore, myth and legend. :)
How far are you from Lake Tahoe? I might take up Harrah's on another one of their "free" trips...
