i hate growing!!!!!

well i have 4 lowryder #2's in some cheap Hyponex potting soil in 10 inch pots. 2 of them are 15 days old, 1 is 14 days old and the other is 13 days old. they are growing outdoors with direct sunlight from about 8:30am till 6 or 7pm. the rest of the daylight hours they are in the shade........its middle of june so days are long
they are all really small still. the 3 oldest are barely starting to show the 3rd set of leaves......the first two sets of leaves are only single blade leaves and looks like this next set of leaves will be the first 3 blade set. anyway......for the first week i had them in a spot that only got 3-4 hours of full sun, then i put them in the spot they are now with all day sun and i gave them some 1/4 strength Miracle Grow tomato food (it was all i had). the weather here is about 100-105 degrees F. the day after i put them in full sun the leaves were curled like a taco and pointing upward. and now the bottom leaves (not the round leaves but the first set of serrated leaves) have been yellowing from the tips and moving inwards..... what is wrong? i read all about pH and nutes, etc. but i just don't know what to do!! i thought weed was as easy to grow as a weed! if i knew it was going to be this difficult and confusing i would have never dropped the $68 for the LR2 seeds( which by the way 3 were smashed, 3 didn't germ, and that's why i have only 4 seedlings right now....thanks a lot DR. Chronic......they did arrive in 4 days from UK to US, though..) these plants are all really small and other pics i have seen for 15 day old LR2 are like at least twice as big...... this is so disappointing. i was hoping for an ounce from each plant and at least one male to get more seeds....but these plants are so tiny i'll be surprised if i get 3 grams from each...........tomorrow morning i will try to post pics if someone can show me how.........maybe with pics someone can help me out........they are growing so slow its frustrating!!!!!!

it could be worse. I spent 80 bucks for cheese seeds which didn't show up, and all i have in my pots are bag seeds from commercial brick weed.

I have one plant that had it leaves fused together, it set it back really far and makes it looks tiny next to others that broke ground the same day.

Im sorry, I was looking to see what your plants problems were.
I am a first time grower and try to take in a lot of info.. Get a pic, stinky is the shit at giving a pic the once over, and nailing the problem on the head..

Too young to feed. You may have fried them with MG. You have to wait until there are 5 sets of adult leaves to give any food at all. High temperature makes overfert problems much worse.

here's some pics of the oldest and biggest....which is still tiny. can you believe its 15 days old!! also a pic of the 13 day old which is even smaller!!!!! the 1st 4 pics are the 15 day old and the last one is the 13 day old .what is wrong? i tried to take better pics but this is as good as my camera will do...........anyway help would be appreciated.....

Well - I dont know if this info will help, but I started with clones. You have to be careful with clones to make sure no diseases or bugs exist, but I haven't had a problem so far. I even started making my own clones for future use. Besides, they are already coming off of females, so you dont really have to worry about sex, and they usually are only $10 each (which is cheaper in the long run considering that not all you seeds will produce!)

So anyways, its really hard to grow young plants in that high of temps, I have a hard enough time getting max growth out of 75 degrees, so thats part of the problem. The solution? grow indoors under a grow lamp if you can - if not, maybe you can set up a fan to cool them off.

The other part - as StinkyAttic said, no fert for babies. Foxfarm makes a soil perfect for seeds, my friend tried it and they popped right out. I made the same mistake a while ago..... Do you have anywhere you can get cutlings from (maybe a friend?). I have found clones to be really ez to make and root.

my soil kinda looks shitty like that too. My most mature plant has gone through hell. Approaching 3 weeks. It has yellow cotyledon leaves and the tips of my first real leaves are yellow too.

I'm worried it might spread up the leaves soon. I put them out in direct sunlight before i got my lamp and they roasted. I recently overwatered them expecting high UV but it wasn't bad that day

It hasn't been all that hot here in WNY but the UV ray's have been horrible.

My suggestion would be to keep them shady or non direct Light if your temps/UV are high right now where you are. I have Fluor tubes now but i'm worried between the overwatering and recent exsposure it will get worse.

Can yellow leaves turn back green? or at least stop yellowing? or is it too late by the time it happens, espcially this young?

From what I understand, leaves are just like hair, once the damage is there, it doesn't repair itself. So you have to rely on the new growth to see if your going to be ok.

The thing I can say about working in Soil is that it seems to be VERY FORGIVING - so if you make a mistake (which I have certainly done a few times) you can fix it before it wacks ya!:pimp:

Not super for 15 days. If you get good soil, use ph correct water and good nutes and follow a schedule you'd be surprised how easy it really is to grow in soil. But you have to start with good equipment. Can you transplant to a better quality soil like Fox Farms Oceans Forest or something along that line?

Thanks prettykitty, i gave them my babies some dark time last night to encourage some root growth (time off heh) and this morning it seems a little bit happier.

It's sick i even dreamed about them last night.

how much does a bag of fox farm soil usually cost (USD) ? and can i pick it up anywhere or just grow shops?

i paid 20$ for 1.5 cubic feet of Ocean Forest. You may want to use Light Warrior or something without fertilizer though, as your plants are still so small--Ocean Forest can be a bit hot for small plants. Check Fox Farm's website, they have a list of stores in your area that carry their stuff. I've only ever been able to find it at hydro stores, but maybe organic gardening stores would carry it? (i dont actually know, just wondering...)

I bought mine out here in Cali - and it was $12 bucks a bag..... well worth the money because I use them not only for my MJ plants, but all my plants (outside/inside) seem to really dig that stuff.....

Im biking or hoofing it now days so i went to this really good plant shop near me, they had Proven Winners : Sunshine: Premium soil. I figure i'd try it because they told me it was locally organic from canada or something. Right after i transplanted my plants started to really burst in groth. like 8.99 for like 20 pounds or so.

It was that or miracle gro.............

The best advice (that many people gave me, but I seemed to overlook its' importance) is to find a very light seedling starter mix. It will absolutely improve the overall plant health in the early stages. I had 4 week old, stunted, light yellow seedlings that were on the verge of death. I performed emergency transplantative surgery :jointsmile: into some starter mix... within 24 hours the green was back and growth kicked into overdrive. It's all about getting them as healthy as possible before that first transplant into real soil and larger pots. Good luck and keep us posted.

all 6 plants are dead!!! i finally pulled them the yesterday because they never grew, even after transplanting them to smaller pots and better soil with more perlite.......so what you see in the pics above is what they looked like at 34 days! no new growth and wilting leaves so i just pulled them............$68US down the shitter! what a waste! i have since purchased seedling trays, better soil, some perlite to add to the soil and a electronic pH soil tester.....right now i have 3 bagseed seedlings going strong outside with only partial sunlight because its about 100F here so i don't let them get full sun all day so as not to fry them..... my pH is between 6.5 and 7 and they seem to be doing fine.......nice and green, no yellow. hopefully these will be ok. so far so good! does anyone know when these should start flowering outside in california? i don't really know when the days are 12/12 here. i know the days have started getting shorter, but obviously not short enough to induce flowering. any help would be appreciated..... 2 seedlings are from a bag of some good stress bud, and one (the oldest and biggest) is from a bag of bomb, so don't really know when to expect a harvest........

As long as frost is not a concern, you should be fine. Assuming the plants reach sexual maturity by the beginning/middle of August, they will be in full flowering mode quite soon after.

I'm impressed......sounds like you revamped your entire growing regimen. Good for you to put in the work!! Your plants will reward you down the road.

There's such a HUGE difference between those who actively study and work at the craft and those who just approach it half-assed with no effort or equipment, poor lighting etc but really seem to feel they are due an excellent harvest. Your thread here shows beautifully the difference between one and the other......and I have NO DOUBT you will have some fine plants at the end. :thumbsup:

Seriously though, I can't say enough about how important a seedling starter mix was to me when I experienced problems. Like I said, I had almost the exact same characteristics going on (yellow leaves, stunted growth, etc.). You said that you got new soil (and it could be the bomb :thumbsup:) but no matter how much perlite you stuff into soil (like my composted manure and humus) it is NOT going to be as light and fluffy as a seed starter. I wrote this on another thread somewhere, but I've seen plenty of logs that show people dropping a bean into like a 5 gallon pot, with fertilized soil, and having a great grow... BUT for me, after taking them out of my soil (nuted at like .5-.5-.5) and putting them into some F.M. Quick'n Easy Seed Starter... it was seriously like I had adopted completely new plants.

So...
1: Small pots
2: Seedling starter mix
3: Fatten up that rootball
- then transplant to a SLIGHTLY larger container. That way they are nice and established when they are introduced to the new soil.

hey thanks for the advice.......it is very much appreciated. I have a Jiffy Windowsill Greenhouse that's meant for starting seeds. Hopefully this will work with my (5) Lowryder #2 beans i have........the other bagseed seedlings that i have right now (only 2 now, not 3 three as stated before.....I stepped on one on accident! long story) were started in Super Soil with added perlite and they seem to be doing just fine. You guys think i should use the Jiffy or just use the Supersoil/perlite as with the other seedlings? I do not want to kill these last (5) LR2 beans i have....I will be growing the LR2 indoors in a small homemade grow box with (2) 50watt hps and (2) 23watt cfl, so 146watts total for 2.5 square feet. I'm just about finished building the box, just need to hang the lights and finish making the carbon filter. It has a passive intake at the bottom with an electrostaticly charged filter over the intake and at the top a 50cfm exhaust fan pushing out the hot air into a homemade carbon scrubber (need to finish making it).... it will also have a small fan inside to circulate the air. As far as light reflection I just bought one of the car windshield sun reflectors and peeled it apart (both sides are reflective, so peeling it apart gives me twice as much reflective material!) and covered the inside of the box. I won't start growing with this box till winter because its to hot right now. I plan on running the lights at night so it'll be cooler...... i will try to give periodic updates of my seedlings i have right now and also post pics............ thanks again for the advice and interest!!!!!

guys dont you remember in grade 2??? making a bean sprout??? same thing... for the first bit you just need water and a tiny bit of soil... (and maybe a cotton ball)
