Man gets ticket for going topless in public

EASTON, Md. (AP) - For only the third time in five years, Easton police have ticketed someone for going topless in public. Sean Cephus, 18, was cited June 4 when police say he was spotted without a shirt on South Street near Hanson Street. He was also cited for failing to obey a lawful order to stop for police.

A town ordinance adopted in 1974 forbids anyone from going topless in public buildings or on public streets and sidewalks. Possible penalties are a fine of up to $100 and up to 10 days in jail.

Easton Police Lt. Gregory Wright said people without shirts are considered a public nuisance. He said three citations have been issued since 2003.

It's true, where I live they are nothing more than legal thugs that shake you down to generate revenue on behalf of the city. Which in turn they use to fund highly unpopular programs. I'm sure some of the good cops are also frustrated/angry about this.

I truely dislike my mayor and his use of the police force.

I didnt even think to consider where it was at,lol.I just kinda figure its the same allover,haha,I have never been there,but if thats the picture of the guy in the post.....at least he's wearing socks.Gotta give um credit for that,lol

I don't think that is picture of the real guy. But when I first saw that picture, I thought mabe the guy was bottomless as well. Then I realized that his underwear were just hidden in rolls of fat. That's a great look on anyone...

But what I DO know is that if a man can go topless in public (obviously not where that guyb was at) then a woman should be able to also. And it seems like some people agree.

Appeals Court Upholds Woman's Right To Protest While Topless

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A woman, who was arrested when she exposed her breasts to protest laws that bar women from publicly going bare breasted, can demonstrate topless as part of a legitimate political protest, an appeals court has ruled.
The Seventh Judicial Circuit Court of Appeals on Oct. 5 upheld a Volusia County judge's opinion that Elizabeth Book could protest while topless on the city's Main Street Bridge.

Book, of Ormond Beach, was arrested by Daytona Beach police and fined $253 during Bike Week in March 2004. The city said she violated an ordinance banning public nudity that was passed in 2002 to curb indecency at special events.
Book's attorney, Lawrence G. Walters, said the latest ruling is a victory for his client, who set out to test laws against nudity because she believes they are unfairly applied to women. Deputy City Attorney Marie Hartman said the city "respectfully disagrees with the opinion." Hartman said the city is looking into an appeal to the Fifth District Court of Appeal.

Book also faces charges in a separate case, where she was arrested for appearing topless in front of topless Grecian statues near a city auditorium in July 2005. She has been charged with disorderly conduct in connection with the incident.

I will take off my shirt in solidarity with any woman who is willing to fight for her right to go topless (provided I have sunscreen available).

I used to live in Arcata, CA, which is in the notorious Humboldt County, weed gowing capital of Nor Cal. Every fall they have the North Country Fair, and one Saturday morning I went down to the fair to have my breakfast in the open air. I was having my cup of coffee and noticed some kind of crowd gathering on the other side of the Plaza with lots of cheering and hooting, so I went over to take a look. It was a group of about 20 women haivng one of these protests. They were all stripping off their tops and marching around the Plaza chanting, "Free your breasts! Free your breasts! Free your breasts!" It was great! The cops in Arcata have seen it all, so they just stood around with amused looks on their faces. After awhile there were more guys than woman marching along behind the main group chanting, "Free your breasts! Free your breasts! Free your breasts!" It was quite a happening for that early on a Saturday morning. I also learned at that event that the people most interested in public displays of nudity are usually the ones we least want to see naked. Bust still, I fully support the Free Your Breasts movement.

But seriously, I would never do that. I think the message gets lost because everyone is just so shocked by boobies. It's hard to take someone seriously. But if someone else wants to I feel it's their right.

I dont understand why going topless is bad....well,I know for women,I understand,all the guys would be gawking,probably have lots of accidents,but I dont understand why a guy no can walk around wid no shirt.

It is sad in this day and age that police look for the easy, and dumb shit to arrest people on. This worlds great :D
