so i was walkin through these broken down train tracks that are secluded. i saw a pretty large feild of what looked like weed. the leaves looked exactly like weed, smelled like it to. But it was very low to the ground and the stem was viny. it didnt have any flowers growing with it. Is this weed?
I live in massachusetts, outskirts of boston
ill try to get photos of it, the leaves on it arent completely skinny either, and as i was walking i saw a guy there pulling out some by the roots so...
heres a picture
I know it belongs to someone but if it is weed i want to work out a deal with them and get some plants or seeds.
what does it look like
it smells like it too, and when i rub it up and down the stem i get a yellow powdery resin on my fingers
anyone know if this is weed or if its something else what is it

I was in a field of growing strawberries today and they didn't look like that. I'm no expert, but I'm going to go with (drumroll)...........
Japanese Maple?
Says they have been known to grow around Halifax, MA. Don't know where that is in relation to you. Here is a pic of the different leaf structures.

Japanese maple is a tree.
Topic creator, whatever it is it isn't cannabis. Don't smoke it.

but it doesn't become a tree overnight. ;) I said I was no expert. I had just seen a picture of one the other day and remember it had a similar leaf pattern.
But oh yeah... like Orzy said DON'T smoke it.

Leaf structure pix real cool! Kind of makes u wonder if this is being grown on purpose in a secluded spot or just a weed. Something sounds odd to me! But, I do agree, don't smoke it! Pluck a leaf and flower and take to a nursery! They ought to know and now I am pretty curious! It looks pretty. If it is some obscure new breed mj that would be wild--in the middle of no-where! Some one is perfecting our weeds!

Wet blankets or not... this is a Cannabis related website. Striving to be a responsible and reliable source for quality information to aid in the medical use of marijuana. To encourage another member to smoke a mystery plant is not only irresponsible, but potentially dangerous. Of course, there had to be a "first" person to walk up on a field of lovely cannabis and reap the fruits of its' creation. Luckily, in the age of technology that we find ourselves in, we don't have to guess as to what plants are safe for consumption. It is not a risk that I would suggest anyone take, especially since the majority of the members on this site are already dealing with deteriorating health problems. Lastly, as I said before, this is a Cannabis related website, and I do believe it states in the the site rules that there will be NO encouragement of use or discussion about other substances. So, until it can be confirmed 100% that it is, in fact, a cannabis plant... I think we all owe it to our fellow friend and member to advise him to NOT SMOKE IT!!! Sorry to be the one of the "wet blankets," but I personally feel that it is time to take the cannabis culture into an age of intelligence, respect, and responsibility. Otherwise, we are fighting the fight for nothing.
Stay :D and Keep

Alright, chillax. Didn't mean to offend.
Don't smoke the mystery plant. Maybe you can take it to a botanist or a plant nursery to find out what it is?

Yea, def not marijuana, also doesn't look like wild strawberries nor does it look like the Japanese maple tree. I worked at a Botanical garden for community service once and it doesn't look like any of those mentioned above.

no offense at all. I'm fairly new to this site too, so I had no part in creating any of the rules that they have in place. I'm just trying to help display the type of message that they have intended, to make sure the canncom stays here for a VERY long time. Sites like these are shut down far too often when things get out of hand, and the mods probably have a hard enough job without jumping into every forum to remind people that there actually are certain things that they don't want on this site. Again, not at all personal. We're ALL friends here.

I could be wrong, but that looks rather like something out of my childhood! The leaves are really big? Right? Used to play in a "forest" of them!
Sure looks like Castor Beans. Quite poisonous! See what you think. You got the plant- I'm working from a photo.
Castor Bean Plant
Always KNOW what a wild plant is BEFORE you eat or smoke it! Another example of this is comfrey and foxglove. Early in the spring they can look VERY similar- only one is an effective healing herb for burns and wounds; and the other can be a deadly poison or a powerful heart medicine depending how you use it!

Hey I found about 21 plants near my house on the out skirts on the woods. They diff have the leave of a Mj plant and are flowering now with yellow flowers. can anyone tell me if this is the real deal or just part of the family. Also if it is when do U cut it down and dry it? Don't know much about the whole growing processes just know how to smoke. :) These pics are from a couple of weeks ago.

Not MJ. Not even part of the family. Strawberries and hops are closer relatives.
I'm merging this with a few other threads so we can have the mystery plant pics all in the same place.

Hititup's plant is Hops, humulus lupulus, cannabis' first cousin. The yellow powder is the resin Lupulin, which is actually an ingredient in insomnia medications.
DO NOT -PLEASE- tell other members to smoke unknown plants!!!

hmmm anyone ever tried deep fried manioc roots??? man.. I think I'd step over my (hypothetical) girlfriend for some of that shit....
golden on the outside.. white on the inside.. crispy and tender and salty... blows french (ahem FREEDOM) fries out of the water...

lol@ Freedom Fries.. what a bizarre moment in American history THAT was. I like my fries French. Most of us don't need any extra 'freedom' in our guts... :wtf: I'll have a glass of prune juice for that thx... eww. Reminds me of the Olestra fad.
Never tried manioc root. I just might have to scoot across town to the world market and pick some up. Is it prepped exactly like FF? (cut and twice-fried?) Or is there a secret? I'm on a fried rutabaga kick ever since a place opened in town that has essentially a Yankee tapas bar menu- simple finger food, cheap, featuring lots of root vegetables and coarse breads. Yum yum.
On this list, that makes 2 delicious plants that happen to resemble pot! Cool.

so what does fried rutabaga taste like? and where can you usually find manioc roots for cooking?

hititup: My question is: Why didn't you just ask the guy you saw tending his plants, what they were? My guess is, someone said smoke it, because it isn't yours and you should leave other people's things alone! Smoke it and choke. It is not yours! I cannot understand why you did not talk to the person there! Instead, lurk behind a bush until he left?? I bet not too many would be happy to find their stuff missing. It obviously, was not abandoned or yours! Did the tendor happen to have a double barrel shot gun with him. If so, I'd stay away. If not, I think Storm Crow told it best! Do not smoke it! Be safe and grow your own!
Thanks Stinky for merging all these, I was getting pretty confused!

Rutabaga gets sweet and earthy when it's cooked, kind of like turnips but I think rutabaga tastes better.
I'd check ethnic markets for manioc root.
-
Cannabis look-alike threads, MERGED for your enjoyment!
thanks...yeah i don't like turnips so much but that's only going off of how my ex Chinese gf's mom cooked it lol. and it's hard to find ethnic markets around here, eh edit > I think i'll try china town in philly next time i'm over there.

The others are cinquefoil. There's a picture of it earlier in this thread to compare.

you sure about all the no's because they were all in the same area, about a 3 ft radius.
-

Yes, I'm sure.
But don't bother killing them if you don't feel like it, because cinquefoil pollen can not produce seeds in cannabis, lol!

What about this? Is it weed? Can I smoke it?
Just playing... it is weird though. It was like one of the seeds started to grow inside the pepper. Either way, I could actually smoke it. ;)
Haha like in the way a chipotle is smoked.
