Radioactive water!!! MARIJUANA TESTING!!! Am I going to turn into Aquaman?

Okay so I just got accepted by this college near my town to do some testing on marijuana.... anyhow they say they do several tests. One includes the injection of radioactive water into the bloodstream and then getting a catscan or something. And the others are explained in the letter they sent me.

Here is part of the letter.

We received your inquiry about the research at the University of --------. Some information about the research is given below. Please read this and, if you are still interested in participating, please reply to this email with your first name, telephone number, and the city and state in which you live. We will telephone you to discuss the research further and ask you some questions to see if you meet our criteria for participating

Below is some information about the research study we are conducting.

We're studying how marijuana use affects peoples' mental abilities and brains by testing some people who use marijuana and some who have very little experience with marijuana. The study involves an initial lengthy screening session and two overnight hospitalizations at the University Hospitals in --------.

Volunteers must be current marijuana users or non-users of marijuana willing to participate as a control subject, be from 18 to 60 years, be right-handed, and be within commuting distance of -------------.

Several procedures are done in the study:

Positron emission tomography involves measuring blood flow and activity in different parts of your brain. We inject radioactive water and take pictures of how it flows through your brain while you lie quietly and do several types of mental tests. This takes up to about 4 hours.

Magnetic resonance imaging involves lying inside a large magnet to take a detailed picture of the structure of your brain, to match with the pictures of blood flow. This takes about 50 minutes.

(These procedures must be scheduled on a weekday, so the study cannot be done entirely on the weekend.)

A number of tests of mental abilities are given, such as achievement tests and memory tests.

A detailed history is taken, which includes questions about your medical and psychiatric history and other aspects of your life.

A neurological exam is done.

Pregnancy testing is also done (if female).

The positron emission tomography involves placing a small tube, an IV, into a vein in your arm to administer the radioactive water, and another small tube in an artery to obtain blood samples. Several other blood samples and a number of urine, saliva, and breath samples would also be obtained during the study. These samples are tested for drugs.

If you're a marijuana user, you'd be asked to smoke one marijuana cigarette provided by us during each hospitalization. Apart from this, both marijuana users and non-users must agree not to use marijuana, alcohol, or any other drugs during the whole time that you're hospitalized. Tobacco smoking is allowed, but only at certain times. You must agree not to leave the ward where you're staying, except for the research.

If you might be interested in being in the study, please send us an email at -------- giving your first name, telephone number with area code, best times to reach you, and city and state where you live. We will telephone you as soon as feasible to discuss the study further and see if you are still interested in participating. If so, we will ask you some questions over the phone. If it seems like you might fall into one of the categories of people we're looking for, we'll schedule a screening session. You'd get $20.00 for the screening session (and will be reimbursed later for travel expenses if you're coming from outside ------- and are not more than 150 miles away from -----). Then, if we find in the screening session that you do meet all the criteria for the study, you'd be scheduled for the two overnight hospitalizations. These take place at the University of ------ Hospitals and Clinics in --------. The two hospitalizations last about 69.5 hours all together and you'd get $600.00, plus travel expenses. These hospitalizations involve about 12 hours of actual tests and interviews. The rest of the time you'll spend reading, watching TV or videos, eating, sleeping, and so on.

A record of your participation in the research will be kept, but it will be confidential. The papers about your use of drugs and all the other sensitive information about you will not have your name on them, only a code number.

I've had those sorts of tests a million times for my cancer bullshit.

Damn, suddenly my problems don't seem so big..

Well I've been in remission for 5 years now. I'm fine haha.

And I have/had Hodgekins (spelling?) Lymphoma. Or Cancer of the Lymphnodes.

Six hundred bucks, free weed, PLUS you get injected with radio-active water and may actually become Aquaman with the fins and the gills and EVERYTHING? It sounds AWESOME!

But then they forbid other weed, alcohol, or any other drugs during the WHOLE TIME that you're hospitalized! Screw 'em! I don't care if they give you radio-active super-powers! It's not worth it!

ya my cousin got the same thing for his cancer... almost was too late for him, but he's ok now...

Is this serious or a joke? Get paid to smoke pot! Sure! The tests, won't harm you, as far as me know today. But, they may decide to do more research on them and change their mind! If you are very healthy and want to do it, do it, we need the research data! But, be sure you can follow the rules and take it serious! If you smoke more than what they plan to give you, screw it! You may not be able to follow the rules. It is not worth being in a program if you can't follow the rules! I would think this kind of testing would be well worth the participation and hope you do consider it! If you do it, do it for the right reason.

If you think it will not be in your record, every time you smoke it is in your hair and some places of potential employment test hair for drugs:twocents:!
Keep that in mind.

'Radioactive' is not necessarily something to be afraid of. Radioactive 'markers' are used in medical work all the time. You are not being exposed to weapons-grade Uranium, lol, promise. The markers are at a level and type of radioactivity that is safe for use on living human subjects.

But if you DO turn into Aquaman, that's awesome. I think at the very least, the University would give you free tuition, and maybe you could become a superhero and fight evil, or, failing that, you could get a job as a carnie...
