Whats the best and safest way to treat for mites,and how often till they are gone?
You'll get a lot of debate on that one, but there really are only three things that will get rid of mites.
Avid
Bombing
No Pest Strips
The last is my favorite, since it's the easiest, cheapest and works almost instantly, as in 2 or 3 days, including babies. Search the other spider mite threads.

Mites thrive in these conditions:
Hot
Dry
Still
And hate these:
Cold
Humid
Breezy
You can drop your temps and apply Neem to impede their reproduction. Add air movement in the grow area. Use a dust buster to vacuum top buds, where they congregate.
Then hit the room with a couple Pyrethrin bombs, spaced a couple days apart, to kill them.
Avid is a good product but is a systemic and should not be used past week 2 of flower. Same goes for Floramite, which I personally wouldn't even consider on a crop meant for consumption. Both of these are regulated pesticides. Use a pyrethrin/neem combo first, and hang no pest strips. Also with the NPS, ventilate the room well before working in htere, and avoid using them in living areas.
I couldn't agree more :thumbsup: ... (useless-ass Neem Oil sucks) ... :jointsmile: ... go to WalMart, etc., buy the 'BullsEye" No-Pest Strips ...Quote:

TOBACCO TEA:::
Tobacco tea is a great organic insecticide,it kills on contact and is residual for a few weeks on hard surfaces.
IT WILL KILL PLANTS ALSO (extreme care needs to be used when being applied)
Start with a 1 gal container.
Add 1/2 pack of chewing tobacco.
Fill with water & let dwell for 3 days.
Strain out and add to garden sprayer 4oz tea to 1gal water
DEATH by HEARTBURN:::
This mixture will kill ants & their relatives
3 1/2 oz of sweet jam (jelly)
1 1/2 tlbs of wet cat food (cheap brand)
1 tlbs of boric acid
KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN & PETS it will make them very sick!!!
GET THEM DRUNK:::
This mixture will eliminate spider mites
Mix 1 cup rubbing alcohol with 1 qt cool water
Put into spray bottle be sure and test a leaf first before spraying to be sure you wont harm the plant.
If mixture is to strong reduce alcohol to 1/2 cup wait 24hrs to reapply(making sure to spray underside of leaves)
Apply during cool hours for best results!!!
ANNOYING GNATS:::
Bait & Trap
Gnats are easy to eliminate just by using vinegar & water.
Use a small jar fill 3/4 with water add 1 tlbs vinegar
Place jar near plants. The gnats will come to check out the jar and be killed.
To control their larvae in the soil use an organic product called "Neem" (it can be found in most garden shops)"
I had great luck with a product called AZATROL. It is not cheap but is OMRI certified and i used it 2 days about a week apart. Everyone i know who has used it has reported 100% knockdown without the little f*%$#@& returning. As for as health risks to yourself...there are some unknowns...i wore what amounts to body-face armor when applying:D

Well I hung a Hot Shot No Pest Strip on Monday, today the spider mites are having graduation parties, and inviting the spider mites from the plant next door over to party. No kidding I have the NPS hanging on a metal shelf inches from the plants. I am watching the SM walk across the shelf to get from one plant to the other.
So I am a woman of faith, I will go get Bulls Eye NPS as the Hot Shot Brand has been so hot.
Umm, I'm stumped and I'm sorry. I can't imagine them not working, but I believe you. Do the new ones have less toxins or something? I don't get it. The strips wiped out my mites the 2 times I had a problem. 3 days, all gone. Just like that. The best part was looking at the eggs under the microscope, and seeing the babies dead in their tracks as they tried to emerge.
Can you turn down your ventilation for a couple days? or add an extra pest strip or two? or both?
thanks all,...I used the shell no pest strips with the bulls eye. This seemed to work short term,..you have to put new out all the time. The bulls eye get filled quickly. The like the water and vinger, the gnats are the worse,...very annoying pest that seem to hard to get ride of.
Gnats are easy! Look for anywhere where there is standing water or very soggy soil, and take it away. They can't breed and eventually just die off entirely.
