can u use halogen lights to gro? help me out i hella need help with this
i think that you can't use halogen lights for growing cannabis...the spectrum of light is not the right one......the types of lights you can use are the following.....
MH:metal halide......good for vegetation....rich in blue spectrum
HPS:high pressure sodium.....good from seed to finish...good amount of blue spectrum....rich amount of orange and red spectrum for flowering
SHP-TS:high pressure sodium....extremely good for flowering.....extra rich in red and orange spectrum
UVB lights:Mercury Vapor-uvb rays are harmful and cause the plant produce more thc to protect itself during flowering
Fluorescents:Good only for vegetation-from seed till about the beginning of flowering (you can use them from start to finish but the results will be rather dissapointing)
The most practical from all lights stated above are the HPS lights as they can be used from start to finish with good all around results....they range from 70-1000watts and with one single bulb you can do your job!
With a 70 watt HPS bulp you can grow 1 plant, with a 1000 watt one you can grow around 20 or even 30 if you due sea of green......anyways, with a halogen lamp you can't grow......get yourself a 250 watt HPS....over here in a banner i see they advertise one for 80 us dollars...with this you can grow around 4 plants in an area of 0.75 sq meters=6.75sqft....that's cheap and effective......if you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask....be well :)
hi pedro new grower is corect, haligon lights will burn ya grass mate, it costs a lot to run and dont do much, best to think about hps set up, florrys if ya cant get hps, sorry to put the mockers on ya hopes mate, be luckey
hey if uvb lights make the plant produse more thc then would it be good for the last few weeks of flowering or would the uvb kill the plant
Yup, what he said!! :D :D Not to mention the incredible heat they put off! :eek:Quote:

MH will make Kannabis plants produce more trichomes when compared to a HPS. HPS will increase the yield when compared to MH. HPS 430 watt sunagro gives the best of both worlds according to the manufacturer. A few local growers use a 2 to 1 setup (1 MH for every 2 HPS) for flowering cycle. Where the light spectrum overlaps you can see a difference in yield and trichomes.
Good Kannabis Growing!
Damn man, you are right! The blue spectrum is closer to the ultraviolet spectrum than the red spectrum. For the saying, "You learn something new everyday", it is true! So, I personally would go with the MH. I would sacrifice quality for yield any day. Thanks man, thanks alot!Quote:

I've been to the point to decide beetween fluros and hps... IMHO i think that HPS is the best... from start to grow.. one bulb... as i say... 1 bulb good nite eat my ass and thats that... dont have to mess with 20 fluros going up your ass even though my growing partie wants to get freaking fluros, i just dont like them... i keep telling him that hps will in the end always give out better yield then fluros... also IMO the best way to start to finish is probably to start slowly with some good strong blue fluros... then when they have a few set of leaves and enter vegetation you switch to MH for the vege... then finish off the party with HPS for maximum yield and plant efficiency.. i wish i had all those... it would probably cost me... hmm.... a good 700CAN but i prefer just a 200$ ballast+ light and thats all.. no more shit
Cheers
Total
They have MH lamps out now that can run with a HPS ballast...best of both worlds. MH for veg. then swap to HPS for the flowering. :D
This is my very first grow, i used from start till a few days ago a 400 watt HPS grolux without any problems....within 5 weeks from seed i've grown 4 big ones (and 4 small ones due to my mistakes) into 2 footers grown in soil without any particular problems and almost no ferts.....now that i am into 3rd week of 12/12 i have added one more 400 watt HPS....i did some research and found this particular type of HPS which is called SHP-TS....that is designed especially for flowering....it is enahanced in orange and red spectrum....in other words does the same job with an MV/UVB lamp without having all the unpleasant side effects of using a UVB lamp (skin burns, loss of eyesight, skin cancer etc.).....as for growing veg. i came up to some new type of floros made by Sylvania...they're called GROLUX as well.....with four of those 4ft 44w each tubes you can cover an area of 12sqft only for veg....total of 176watts emitting the lumens of a 250 MH bulb....the total price for the floros is more than the MH but the operating cost is less, the distance from the plants is less, the heat emitted is less and the life of the bulbs is longer...... :)
I take that back. A MH may produce more trichomes, but a HPS improves the quality of the THC.Quote:

I have a 400w switchable ballast, and for the money,$200 (including the cordset and tax) it is the bomb... to switch from HPS to MH all I have to do is change the bulb and flip a switch, NO conversion bulb expense, and they are pricey. MH is best for Veg, and in the last week of flower I use it for it's UV-B output, (more tricomes) HPS is best hands-down for weeks 1-7 or so of flowering.
Yeah, but they are worth it. When I get older, I will buy mw a 1000 watt hps/mh switchable ballast.Quote:

btw, i use both mh and hps (1430W total) together during flowering. makes for larger, denser flowers.
