first grow ever closet 450w setup
first grow ever. Could use some help. I'm having some discoloration and yellowing issues.
All came from local dispensary as clones. Under 450watt MH, temps stay between 80-85 throughout the day (working on getting this lower)
I have been watering tap water every 2 days just enough to moisten the soil.
Using Fox Farms Ocean Forest organic potting soil with worm castings and bat guano. Terra Vega nutes, but haven't started feeding yet. Just plain tap.

Oh I'm waiting on PH test kit and moisture/PH meter for the soil. Should be coming tomorrow. Also ordered a few books to help educate myself

yeah it could definitely be a ph issue. check that asap :)

I'm waiting on the PH tester. In the meantime, I flushed the plants to make sure they are nice and watered, raised my lighting (the hood was about 12" above the plants) and left the closet door open to help drop temps.
I have yet to dose any nutes. the soil is only about a week old. I was told to start dosing by about the 3rd week in half the recommended dose?

Your plants are Old enough for Nutes! and they need them. your PH should be around 6.5 and your lamp is too close. your plants are showing signs of heat stress!!! and Water every other day! Good luck!

I just flushed the plants with 1/2 the recommended dose, raised the lamp to about 18". Will the plants be ok from 80-85 degrees or do I have some ventilation work to do.?

I dont see any heat stress. I think your temps are ok, not the optimal but ok. 85 isnt dangerously high temp yet, but you dont wanna go much over it. Hope you get your ph-meter quick! At some point you need to get them in to bigger pots.

What strain are they?
Highest temp it seems to get is 86. When it starts to heat up this summer its going to be an issue. I might have to get a portable AC unit to keep temps down. I was eyeballing this 1000BTU ventless unit that would fit perfectly in there. Not sure if 1000BTU would be sufficient for the space though. With the closet door open temps drop down to about 76 or so.
I've got bigger pots, once they get some more size to them I'll transplant.

[align=left]Nice growing so far. I will be in a similar predicament as you regarding heat issues once the summer hits. I KNOW this attic closet will hold some heat, even with the Oscillating fan, intake/exhaust fans, and the House Fan I expect the temps. to hover around 78-83 degrees. [/align]

Added a cool tube and it has helped temps dramatically so far.
Unfortunately I've been noticing white/yellow spots on my sativa clones and took a closer look today and found small grey bugs all over the leaves with the spots. My indica clones seem to be fine.
The bugs are only on the plants with the little spots. Spider mites?

I would use ventilation if i was you. you can get inline duct fans that work great if u dont want to go with a carbon filter

I added an inline 200cfm fan to the setup that vents outside. Temp is now stable around 75-78
I sprayed the plants down thoroughly with Safer bug spray pyrethrins based.
Will do so again in 6 days or so. :(

All over it. My pancreatitis was acting up today so I was home sick and decided to transplant the two largest guys. The root systems were not as extensive as I expected nevertheless it needed to be done. Also got my Soil PH meters and also a water PH tester. My tap water tests at 7.6.

it's nice to see that kind of initiative
you say your tap water is 7.6? sounds like you could use a reverse osmosis water filtration unit.
anyway, good luck with your grow, you'll find all the help you need here, lots of very experienced people (lots of newbies like me too, lol)

nice healthy looking plants! Are you using water directly from the tap or do u let it set out for 24 hours? Letting the water set out for a day b4 use allows all the chemicals and crap thats it local water to evaporate giving the plants fresher water. I usually put 2 gal of water in a safe place with minimal traffic and add nutes as i need to, keep good track though you dont want to give your plants any nute burn.

I have that same ph and moisture tester, didnt work too well for me but it said if you are in between b and c its water time, nad if it gets too hot go to home depot and spend 20 bucks on a small yet powerful fan and point it directly at the light towards the opening in your closet, it should help!
